3. Ameesha- All Alone...
Ameesha was only 6 hours old when she came to the SOS
Children’s Village at Bawana, Delhi. Her SOS mother Kumudini,
was concerned regarding her ability to bring up such a frail child,
who also had a deformity in her foot. She says “ I was so much
worried about Ameesha that I would suddenly get up in the middle
of the night and start massaging Ameesha’s feet, praying that she
should grow up to stand on her tiny feet”. She said with tears in her
eyes “It made me feel so sad to think that Ameesha might not be
able to dance, run around and play like other children.”
With guidance from a doctor at AIIMS, Kumudini learnt the art of
molding children’s bones and regularly treated Ameesha. Today
Ameesha stands tall, wants to pursue a career in dance and
also plays football as a defender.

mother – like in any family
• Children attend local schools and keep in close
contact with neighboring families
11. The Four Principles of SOS Children’s Village
1. The Mother- Each and every child has a caring parent.
2. Brothers and Sisters- The children have family ties and
they grow up with a sense of responsibility and a spirit
of sharing; family ties therefore grown naturally
3. A House- A place where the child feels secure, and has
a sense of belonging; each family creates their home
4. The Village- A community that surrounds the child and
gives every child roots.
