The expansion and uses of voice technology in research
• Exploring the benefits of using voice technology to enhance the data collection process particularly for mobile devices
• Comparing the quality of data collected using voice to text vs. typing
• Predictions for the use of voice technology in research
The qualitative and quantitative worlds are coming much closer together, within five years the differentiation will no longer be meaningful
Open ended questions will gain importance as a way to glean insights from respondents
The T2V “understanding” and “talk to you” were asked of all, not just those using the feature.
Would you use this feature if it were available on surveys you answered for yourself?
INTRO TEXT:
We are currently conducting research to assess the effectiveness and quality of different data collection methods, specifically voice, video, voice to text and typing. For each question you will have the option of answering via video, audio voice to text or typing
RESULTS:
After 68 interviews, all 68 had chosen to answer via typing or using voice to text. We stopped the survey and changed it to only allow video or audio recording. We then had 140 consecutive dropouts before stopping the study.
When speaking, it is difficult to multitask, so perhaps better quality research will result.
Within 3 years, all surveys will have these features. Respondents will expect these features.
Within 3 years, majority of surveys will be on a mobile device, if not sooner. So good news since these techs are easier on mobile.
