2. TO CREATE AN ACCOUNT ON THE WEB
Go to http://twitter.com and find the sign
up box or go to: https://twitter.com/signup
Enter your full name, phone number or
email address, and a password.
Select a username (usernames are
unique identifiers on Twitter) — type your
own or choose one that is suggested.
Double-check your name, phone number,
password, and username.
Click Sign up for Twitter.

3. TIPS FOR PICKING A USERNAME
Your username is the name your followers use when sending replies,
mentions, and direct messages.
It will also form the URL of your Twitter profile page.
Please note: You can change your username in your account settings
at any time, as long as the new username is not already in use.
Usernames must be fewer than 15 characters in length.

4. IMPORTANT INFORMATION
An email address can only be associated with one Twitter account at a
time.
The email address you use on your Twitter account is not publicly
visible to others on Twitter.
Be sure to enter an email address that you actively use and have
access to. Check your inbox for a confirmation email to make sure you
signed up for your account correctly.

5. Customise your profile
You can customise your profile by selecting unique profile and header
images, adding a name, bio, location, website and theme colour, and by
pinning a Tweet that other users will see when they visit your profile.
To customise your profile, go to ‘view profile’.
Click the ’edit profile’ button and you’ll be able to edit your account’s:
Header photo (recommended dimensions are 1500x500 pixels)
Profile photo (recommended dimensions are 400x400 pixels)
Name, bio (maximum 160 characters), location, website, theme colour &
birthday
Click into any of these areas and make your changes.
When changing a profile or header photo, click the camera icon and select
to ’upload photo’ or ’remove’, or simply drag and drop a photo into this
section.
Click ’save changes’. You’re all set!

6. GETTING STARTED: FOLLOWING
It’s best to begin your journey by finding and following other
interesting Twitter accounts. Look for schools, public service
accounts, people you know, or news sources you read.
Following means you'll get that user's Tweets on your Twitter home
timeline. You can ‘unfollow’ anyone at any time.

7. GETTING STARTED: TIMELINE
Messages from those you follow will show up in a readable stream on
your Twitter homepage, called your “Timeline.”
Once you’ve followed a
few accounts of interest,
you’ll have a new page of
information to read each
time you log in. Click links
in others’ Tweets to view
articles, images or videos
they’ve linked to. Click
hashtagged keywords (#)
to view all Tweets about
that topic.

8. GETTING STARTED: SEND YOUR FIRST TWEET
Build a voice! Use existing information (other people's Tweets) on
Twitter to find your own voice and show others what you care about.
‘Retweet’ messages you've found and like, or reply with your
reaction to a Tweet you find interesting.
Mention! Once you're ready to begin authoring your own messages,
consider mentioning other users by their Twitter username (preceded
by the @ sign) in your Tweets.
