accessible, openly licensed documents and media that
are useful for teaching, learning, and assessing as well
as for research purposes. It is the leading trend in
distance education/open and distance learning domain
as a consequence of the openness movement.[1]
There is no universal usage of open file formats in
OER”....yeah it's a little chaotic.

18. Creative Commons &
“Copyright and Creative Commons licensing are key to
making OER work.” See the site for great information about
using the CC licenses.

19. How to adopt OER: the pressbooks way
The beautiful thing about OER is that you can pick and choose,
mix and match, and recombine in any way you like, as long as
you give attribution.
For example you can combine parts of an algebra text with parts
of a calculus text and your own take on trigonometry , and make
a text that fits your unique students. For free online or for a small
cost if printed through the bookstore. (Average about $35)
20. How to adopt OER: the “flexbook” way
You write your book as a series of chapters and share them with your
students. Other teachers can use your book as is or copy it and use
parts, mix and match, or add their own content. You decide what kind
of license to grant, generally with Creative Commons, only attribution of
the original parts is required. This way is more time consuming and
less controlled, but it is free and offers super easy accessibility to your
students. You can embed the book into an online course, print it out
through the bookstore, or share it through google classroom as you
like.
