The ‘What’ A 3 year contract of PD under the ICT umbrella <ul><li>Challenges: </li></ul><ul><li>Drawing together 4 stakeholding groups </li></ul><ul><li>Moving all 4 groups ‘collaboratively’ towards the ‘big picture’ </li></ul><ul><li>Keeping the enthusiasm high over the 3 year period </li></ul><ul><li>Selling the idea in such a way that the benefits to our tamariki were transparant </li></ul><ul><li>Teacher absentism </li></ul>

The ‘Why’ <ul><li>Upskilling our Kaiako in ICT </li></ul><ul><li>Ensuring that the support was there </li></ul><ul><li>On-sharing any new learning </li></ul><ul><li>Taking this PD into the classrooms </li></ul><ul><li>Improving not only the technical knowledge of all concerned but, also growing the awareness and knowledge base of the ‘Thinking’ strategies and diving deeper into our curriculum delivery in Te Reo </li></ul><ul><li>Aiming for ICT ‘savvy’ </li></ul>

The ‘When’ <ul><li>Wānanga each term - equating to a day and a half of PD and involving all members of the stakeholding groups </li></ul><ul><li>3 x National Conferences for each of the 3 years on the Contract </li></ul><ul><li>- L earning @ S chools </li></ul><ul><li>- H e W aka E ke N oa </li></ul><ul><li>- UL earn </li></ul><ul><li>‘ Other’ PD opportunities.......Tuanz, Power of the Question Conference, Michael Pohl seminar, Art Costa seminar.......... </li></ul>

The ‘Where’ <ul><li>Over the 3 year period, each Kura hosted at least one Wānanga </li></ul><ul><li>The commencement of each Wānanga was a ½ day consisting of lunch, a Guest speaker and a variety of activities following that </li></ul><ul><li>Day 2 consisted of workshops </li></ul><ul><li>- 2 x workshops on IT </li></ul><ul><li>- 2 x workshops on Thinking strategies </li></ul><ul><li>- 2 x workshops on Curriculum </li></ul><ul><li>Classroom teachers became our strongest presenters </li></ul><ul><li>Faciliatator visited each Kura – on a designated day - each week </li></ul>

A = Pai A ke <ul><li>Kaiwhakahaere team came together prior to tabling a proposal for this Contract therefore, were all very supportive of this going ahead </li></ul><ul><li>Kaiwhakahaere team ‘walked their talk’ and role modelled ‘habits’ we wanted to grow in our kaiako </li></ul><ul><li>Lead teacher team were carefully selected </li></ul><ul><li>All Kaiako were valued in that..... </li></ul><ul><li>- once a term, were all taken out to lunch </li></ul><ul><li>- had guest speakers to ‘kick start’ each Wānanga </li></ul><ul><li>- had opportunity to book into 3 workshops each time </li></ul><ul><li>- were encouraged to file their new learning </li></ul><ul><li>- were encouraged to own-share their new learning </li></ul><ul><li>- had opportunity to use templates to capture their learning </li></ul><ul><li>- learning outcomes were evident in classrooms </li></ul>
  8. 8. I = Raro I ho <ul><li>Contract was for 3 years only </li></ul><ul><li>Kaiako absenteeism sometimes impacted on face to face conference times with facilitator </li></ul><ul><li>Dissemination of new learning not always evident </li></ul>

O = He O horere <ul><li>29 Kaiako participated in the HWEN Conference in Rotorua in 2006 </li></ul><ul><li>Presenters were grown within our Cluster </li></ul><ul><li>Great support from the National Facilitation team – in particular Hemi Waerea / Daphne Papuni </li></ul><ul><li>PD opportunities </li></ul><ul><li>Networking possibilities </li></ul><ul><li>On-sharing of the ‘flavouring’ of our Cluster </li></ul><ul><li>Continued support and role modelling and valuing from the kaiwhakahaere team </li></ul><ul><li>EXPO 2006!!  </li></ul>

Next steps / Where to now.... <ul><li>Consolidate the last 3 years PD </li></ul><ul><li>Maintain links / connections with the 4 stakeholding groups </li></ul><ul><li>‘ Remain open to continuous learning’ </li></ul><ul><li>(Art Costa – one of his 16 ‘Habits of Mind’) </li></ul><ul><li>Continue with our weekly ICTPD Cluster newsletter </li></ul><ul><li>Celebrate the learning that has gone on during this time </li></ul><ul><li>Scope for further opportunites for this Cluster to work as one </li></ul>
