1) The proposed gasification plant in Kamloops raises several environmental and health concerns due to the inexperience of the operator, the scaling up of an experimental project, and the plan to burn creosote-treated wood ties. 2) Creosote-treated wood presents complex burning problems as creosote contains many toxic and carcinogenic compounds that could produce dioxins and furans when burned. 3) Kamloops is not a suitable location for an experimental burning facility given its existing air pollution problems, vulnerable population, and air dispersal challenges. The community should carefully investigate the impacts and refuse to accept residues from the proposed plant.
