Aurora WDC is delighted to announce the second edition of a special award that university students can apply for that memorializes a long-time contributor to the corporate intelligence world, Mr. James (Jim) Mathews. Aurora first introduced this award last year in memory and acknowledgement of the lasting professional contributions to the field of competitive intelligence (CI) made by Mr. Mathews, who passed away in October 2011.

Having known Jim for nearly a decade, we viewed him as exemplifying the “gold standard” in terms of professionalism in the business and competitive intelligence arena. More so, he always loved to speak to students about entering and making a career out of the intelligence profession, and what a noble pursuit it was.

Currently-enrolled university students can compete for one of two (2) awards to allow you to attend the annual conference of the Strategic & Competitive Intelligence Professionals (SCIP) in Orlando, FL this spring (May 7-9, 2013) as a Jim Mathews Award recipient. As an award winner, your registration fee will be covered by Aurora WDC to the conference’s general session. Additionally, each of the two award recipients will be allocated an additional stipend for meeting travel-related expenses. Most importantly, students will signify to potential employers their desire to achieve the levels of professionalism in their own careers that Jim Mathews was widely known for.

Thanks for considering this opportunity to advance your Intelligence career and education, and do so in memory and honor of a great and highly-respected professional. Please feel free to reach out to Dr. Craig S. Fleisher to discuss any questions you may have regarding submission.

Notes
  • We received numerous applications this year from university and college students in four countries. The quality was very high and impressed our panel of veteran intelligence judges. A well earned 'Bravo' to everybody who took the time to apply. Everybody should have received notification of their status earlier this month, and the awarding of this year's winners will take place in Orlando, FL in May at SCIP's annual conference and exhibition. For those of you who thought about -- but didn't apply, we will be doing it again next year and hope to receive your application!
