As part of our research for the PASTA (Physical Activity through Sustainable Transport Approaches) project www.pastaproject.eu, we will be running a two-year survey starting in autumn 2014, which looks at the travel patterns of up to 14,000 people in seven cities across Europe.

PASTA Zurich has been
working closely with
institutes in the recruitment
of participants e.g. this
open day at Epidemiology,
Biostatistics and
Prevention Institute
Students at the university of
Zürich are also a pool of
potential participants that has
been tapped into and the
PASTA team have used both
Twitter and Facebook to
spread the word on this study.
A short 20 second video was
developed to promote the project
which was shared via digital
channels.

recognition of the project at a
local level.
6 recruiters were employed to
distribute info on PASTA, and
recruit potential participants by
collecting email addresses at
strategic points across the city.

PASTA BCN identified all the mailing
lists that they had available to them
through the organisation and projects as
well as sending workplace emails.
PASTA BCN has developed a
social media strategy with
standardised tweets and taken
a targeted approach to linking
with relevant organizations to
retweet to their followers.
PASTA Barcelona
PASTA Barcelona created two tee-shirt
designs and put them out to vote via
Twitter for participants and followers to
choose the winning design.

PASTA Örebro linked up
with pop up bike shops,
where citizens could have
their bike check-up for
free, to gather participants
for the survey.
Sending out targeted mailings
to citizens in Örebro and
workplaces has been a key
tactic used to recruit
participants in Örebro.
Articles & advertorials have been
used as a recruitment tactic,
selecting specialized and local
media to get the word out..

PASTA Antwerp took part in a
documentary to raise
awareness about the impacts
of pollution on our health.
Antwerp had two participants
writing about PASTA in a blog
(one of them was linked to a
popular scientific journal).
PASTA Antwerp has done
recruitment through workplaces
presenting the project face-to-face
at Nike but also using mailings
through workplaces to recruit.

Local events have also been a way for
PASTA Antwerpen to recruit
participants.
PASTA Antwerpen has a strong
following on Twitter and also use
their personal accounts to retweet
posts to build up awareness of the
project.

publications, including Gazet Van
Antwerpen and Flanders Today.
