In your lesson today you are going to be examining a case study and looking at how it promotes a
film before its general release.
The Key Words which I am looking for in your analysis are SIGNIFIES, CONNOTATIONS,
SYNERGY, TARGET AUDIENCE, GENRE
2. Carry out an analysis of the home page explaining what you can tell about the movie from the
home page (remember to think about images, colors, fonts, hyperlinks, multimedia
content. Use words like CONNOTATIONS, ANCHORS, SIGNIFIES, REPRESENTATION)
The home page is a blue background with the animals doing there poses the conations suggest that
the website and the film overall is for children under the age of 5-13. The fact that there is the
animation and the children look to it you would think that it is for children and yes the film is for
children but itโs more of a fun family film if you want it to be.
If this picture was on a DVD front cover it would attract the right aged people between the ages of
5-13 and maybe parents who have that aged children at home.
3. 2. From your initial analysis explain who the target audiences are and how you know this.
GENDER/AGE/ETHNICITY/SEXUALITY;
The target audience is aged between 5-13 years old. No particular gender all genders can watch this
sort of movie. You can see on the front of the case that it is for any gender but from the ages 5-13.
You can see the film is an upbeat and a happy movie. And everyone has a laugh seeing the front
cover of the movie.
3. Now its time to have a look around this website, explain what features the website has and how

videos The videos are like small parts of the film but edited on
telling you whatโs happening and going through the steps of
the dance that they may be doing in the video
stories The stories are telling you parts of the movie but in smaller
detail and not being so full on but also keeping the
audience entertained and keeping them coming back for
more
animations The animations shows you how the effects are done and
how much they are made to make the movie more fun for
all age groups and always have them in different ways of
how the different aged children like them.
features The feature and mainly just showing you what has been
deleted from the movie and the back stage footage that you
may not have been able to see in the movie or may not
have been edited.
downloads The downloads are mainly the music tracks from the film
and sometimes some of the scene videos.
4. 4. Find out if there are any examples of synergy on the website. Explain how the film company
has worked with other companies to reach their TARGET AUDIENCE and promote their film.
The company has had many different age groups on the Madagascar movies but they are always
near the same age group through out all the movies that they have made and there target audience
always comes back even though there ages may not be the movie companys target age.
5. In your own words explain how effective you think the website is.
The website is really effective and has so many great features and so many things to keep young
people and the general public entertained and it also sells the movie and the general public
entertained and it also sells the movie and lot easier if people donโt know what the movie is about.
