BLOOD DRIVE: Due to a shortage of blood, we will be hosting another blood drive at the USO on Fort Drum, 10 and 11 January.
If you would like to donate, please call our office or go online to www.redcrossblood.org to sign up online. To donate blood,
you need to be at least 16 years of age (with parental permission), be home from deployment for at least 1 year, have been at
least 57 days since your last donation, not pregnant or given birth in the last 6 weeks, and no tattoos in the state of NY in the
last year. (If you are deploying in Jan or Feb, you cannot donate)

contact AER and they will be happy to accommodate their requests. A Spanish speaking AER slide presentation has

2B. ARMY FAMILY TEAM BUILDING/ARMY FAMILY ACTION PLAN KIM HILL, 315-772-6710
• AFTB LEVEL CLASSES: Level 1 Class: 9, 10 January, 9:00am- 4:00pm, ACS – a basic course to help those new to
the military understand and cope with the ever-changing military lifestyle. Level II Class: 23, 24 January, 9:00 am-

for 16 January. This is a yearly conference designed to give the community the opportunity to make

goes into a civilian resume; and use ERP computer lab and computer program to create your resume.
• FORT DRUM BUSINESS NETWORKING GROUP: 29 January, 5:00pm- 7:00pm, ACS- The Fort Drum Business
Networking Group is a free bi-monthly event to support Fort Drum businesses with educational and networking

• BUDGET MANAGEMENT: 14 January, 9:00am-12:00pm, ACS- Develop a budget for yourself and your Family that
really works. This class will show you the tricks to create a solid spending plan, strategies for saving, goal setting
and basic money management.
• DEBT BLASTERS: 24 January, 9:00am-11:00am, ACS- Too many debts? Paycheck gone before you even get to
look at it? Come to a FREE class and learn how to decrease debt without ruining your credit. This is one debt
reduction plan that really works.
2H. MILITARY AND FAMILY LIFE CONSULTANT (MFLC) MFLC LEAD, 315-212-6919
• MILITARY AND FAMILY LIFE CONSULTANTS (MFLC) offer problem solving, solution focused counseling to Service
members, Civilians, Families, couples, and children. Consultants help military Service members cope with normal
responses to stress resulting from Army life, deployment and reintegration. Among other topics, MFLCs address
communication skills, stress management, grief and loss, workplace stress, decision-making skills and forming
strong Families. They answer their phones from 8 am-8 pm and offer same day appointments. MFLC conversations

3. are off the record except for the mandate to report and secure help for those in danger. No referral is needed,
they meet after duty hours, and it’s free. Walk in appoints are available at ACS Mon. - Fri. from 7:30 am - 4:30 pm.

• ACS PROGRAMMING: ACS Outreach focuses on three main areas to help Soldiers and Families develop a sense
of self reliance as well as a sense of belonging to the community. The focus areas include education, prevention
and direct services. Outreach evaluates the unit’s needs, coordinates services and delivers ACS programming to
Soldiers and Families.

• FAMILY WELCOME TOUR: Every Tuesday, 9:30am-2:00pm, ACS- Tours Ft. Drum and the Watertown area.
• ENGLISH FOR SPEAKERS OF OTHER LANGUAGES: Every Tuesday and Thursday, 9:30am-11:30pm, ACS
• HEARTS APART: 4 January, 10:00am-12:00PM, ACS- For spouses separated from their Soldier by deployment,
extended training, or an unaccompanied tour.

• THE FORT DRUM SFAC: Provides non-medical social services to Soldiers and Families assigned to the 3-85th INF
Warrior Transition Unit and Soldiers and Families who have a Soldier being cared for at other Military Treatment
Facilities that still live in the Fort Drum area. The SFAC provides services at the SFAC facility (11042 Mount

3. BETTER OPPORTUNITY FOR SINGLE SOLDIERS (BOSS) MICHELLE RODEN, 315-772-7807
• HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS: will be conducted on 1 January 2013. BOSS invites you to feel at Home for the Holidays at the Nash
Blvd Center when they open their doors. Snacks and beverages will be offered starting at 12:00pm. Available will be gaming, pool,
and Cyber Café for keeping in touch with friends and family. The BOSS center is your home away from home throughout the

• BOSS MEETINGS: are conducted every Tuesday, 10:00am – 11:30am. BOSS representatives are invited to participate in BOSS
meetings at the Nash Blvd center. Here you will learn about upcoming events that BOSS is hosting or supporting, volunteer
opportunities and an opportunity to bring up any quality of life issues. Ask you Brigade BOSS representative when your next
meeting is going to be held.
• MOVIE NIGHTS: Movie nights are conducted every Friday starting at 8:00pm. Stop in either BOSS centers, Nash Blvd. or Jack T.
Sweet to watch a movie on the big screen. Free popcorn is provided.

6. CHILD, YOUTH & SCHOOL (CYS) SERVICES KARIN S. SIKIRICA, 315-772-6715
6A. CYSS SPORTS:
• CO-ED WRESTLING: Youth 5 – 13 years old; Registration is ongoing through 11 January, Fee $45; Season starts
12 January - April. Practices are Tuesday and Thursdays from 6:15 – 8:45 pm. Parents meeting will be 7 January.
• BASKETBALL: 3rd – 5th grade; Participants will learn the basic skills and rules of Basketball in this youth sports
program. The goal for the team is not to win, but overall, become a better team at the end. Registration is ongoing
through 9 January, Fee $40; Season starts 9 January – 14 March.
• START SMART GENERAL DEVELOPMENT: Youth for ages 3 – 5 years old. Registration starts 3 December – 5
January, Fee $20; Season starts 5 Jan – 9 Feb 2013. Parent Interaction program that allows participants to try
multiple traditional sports and work on the fundamentals behind each sport.

6B. CYSS YOUTH CENTER:
• DIPLOMAS TO DEGREE: is a new Boys and Girls Clubs of America college readiness program. This program
provides a range of services to guide Club members as they work toward high school graduation and prepare for
post-secondary education and career success. Program Orientation is on 7 January, 4:30pm – 5:30pm open to
Teens and Parents. Please register by 2 January. Late registration will be accepted during orientation.
• MIDNIGHT BASKETBALL: is held on Friday, 18 January from 8:00 pm to Midnight. This event is open to youth in
grades 6-12. Cost of the program is $3.00 for members and $5.00 for non-members. A school picture ID is
required.
• INDOOR SKATE JAM: is held at 10790 Chapel Drive on Saturday 26 January at 3:00 pm and is open to youth in
grades 6-12. Cost of the program is $3.00 for members and $5.00 for non-members. A school picture ID is
required. Skate Park equipment will be set-up in the gymnasium with music food and competitions.

6C. CYSS SKIES:
• SKIING AND SNOWBOARDING LESSONS: Thursdays, 3-31 January. Ages 7-18. Youth will learn how to ski or
snowboard in lessons from 6-8 pm each Thursday. Fees for the lesson packages with or without rentals range from
$145-$165 per student. Transportation is available for an additional fee of $50 per student (AFC funds cannot pay
this fee). Registration begins 1 December at the SKIES facility, 10790 Chapel Drive. Click here for flier- SKIES Skiing

• TAEKWONDO CLASSES: Tuesdays and Thursdays every month, grades 1-12, $70 per month. Students learn the
martial art of taekwondo and meet twice a week. Students with previous experience in other martial art forms are
also encouraged to participate. Registration is open until classes are filled.
• POTTERY INTRODUCTORY CLASSES: Mondays every week. Clay 101 is the introduction to pottery, and is offered
from 5:00pm -6:00pm each Monday. Clay 201 is introduction to wheel-throwing and is offered from 6:00pm-
7:00pm each Monday. Once these two classes have been taken, each student is then eligible to take more
advanced pottery classes. Introductory classes are both $5 per student per class.
• SEWING INTRODUCTORY CLASSES: Mondays every week. Sewing 101 teaches students the basics in hand
sewing, and is from 5:00pm -6:00pm every Monday. Sewing 201 teaches students the basics in sewing with
machines, and is offered every Monday from 6:00pm -7:00pm. Once these two classes have been taken, students
can register for any of the other sewing classes offered. Introductory classes are both $6 per student per class.

8A. PARKS & RECREATION/WARRIOR ADVENTURE QUEST EUGENE SPENCER, 315-772-6568
• EQUIPMENT RENTAL & OUTDOOR GEAR FOR RENT. Get your downhill and cross country skis to enjoy some of
the various slopes in the area. Call Parks & Recreation for discounted tickets to numerous ski lifts. Ice Fishing
equipment and guided trips are available through reservations. Maximum participants per trips is 15. Our indoor
archery range will remain open through the winter with archery equipment available, $5 per hour per person.
Winter paintball is still available including the woods ball and speed ball. The cross country ski lunch will kick off in
January pending snowfall, Thursdays at 09:00am until 1:00pm, price per person $10 per person includes ski rental
and lunch served at the Sportsman’s Lodge.
• SKEET, TRAP AND ARCHERY RANGES: are open for the season (weather permitting). Range fee is $5/hour.
Shotguns and bows are available for rent at a cost of $10.
• SNOWMOBILE CLASSES: are conducted at Parks and Recreation. These classes are mandatory to participate in
WAQ snowmobile rides. Cost is $5/person. Must be 18 years old and have proper ID. Contact Parks and
Recreation for class dates and times. Snowmobile Trips are TBD pending the snowfall.
• LESIURE AND TRAVEL & DISCOUT TICKETS: is available at the Parks and Recreation Center. Get your Military
Promotional Tickets for Walt Disney, savings up to 51% for Park Hoppers. We also have tickets for ski lifts at White
Face. Disney on Ice, 5 January 2013, Syracuse. Buses will depart building P-11115 at 8:30am and the show is at

• CHIEF OF STAFF OF THE ARMY (CSA) COMMANDER’S CUP PROGRAM: will start in January. Units will be
competing in basketball, flag football, soccer, volleyball and softball to vie for the Fort Drum top seed in each
sporting event and a chance to compete with other installations.

• SCHOOL BUS SAFETY: Drivers must use caution when approaching school buses and be prepared to stop. New York State law
requires all drivers to stop when the school buses red flashing lights are activated and remained stopped until the flashing red lights
go off. There are no exceptions and this includes drivers behind and approaching the school bus.
• WINTER PARKING: From 1 November to 1 April parking on the roadways in the housing areas is prohibited. This is important due
to snow removal operations and also for providing adequate room for Emergency vehicles during the winter months.

• TRANSFER OF POST 9/11 GI BILL BENEFITS: End of Reduced Additional Duty Service Obligation (ADSO)- The benefit
of no or a reduced ADSO for senior Servicemembers transferring their Post 9/11 education benefits will run out 1 Aug
2013. After that date, all Servicemembers will be held to a four year ADSO regardless of their qualifying years on 1
Aug 2009. Requests for transfer of benefits are made through MILCONNECT at
https://www.dmdc.osd.mil/milconnect/faces/index.jspx. Servicemembers who previously transferred their benefits
can confirm their ADSO at the same site.
• PROCTORED COLLEGE EXAMINATIONS AND THE EDUCATION CENTER: The Army Education Center has stopped
proctoring College examinations. Options for any college student requiring a proctored examination are:
- The McEwen Library is providing proctor services at the Library. For proctor information, contact Allen or

• HOLIDAY PET ADOPTIONS: Many new pets are adopted as “gifts” during the holidays. Before giving/adopting a pet, please
consider the responsibilities of pet ownership! Adopting a pet is typically a 10-15 year commitment. PLEASE do not adopt a pet if
you cannot commit to taking the pet with you everywhere you may move. It is also important to consider the costs involved. Over
the course of their lifetime, most pets will cost between $5000 and $10,000 for food, supplies, and veterinary care. You can expect
to spend $100-200 for initial vaccines and basic “starter” care, plus up to $250 for spaying/neutering (which should be performed on
EVERY pet within the first 6 months of life).
• SPAY / NEUTER: We strongly discourage breeding of ANY pet, for ANY reason. If you intend to breed your pet, he/she is NOT
eligible for any services at the VTF. It is especially important for female puppies to be spayed during the first 6 months of life (before
ever going into heat). This may mean taking pets to a vet off-post, since our surgery waiting list is 5-6 months long.
• PET TRAVEL: Pets are required to have a veterinary exam before ANY airline travel, including within the U.S. International
destinations have further requirements, some of which must be initiated 3-6 months before travel. Please contact us (or stop by) for
details as soon as you find out about upcoming OCONUS travel.
