Nestle wanted a revamp of their coffee vending machine. What they were looking for was a smarter, younger more contemporary feel with an interface that is intuitive and simple. After a thorough design research and identifying issues with the existing prototype Desmania started the work. User interface, robustness and durability were the central points to be taken care of the new version of the machine. Desmania worked on the design and came up with many options for the client to choose from. A newer, more sleek looking and more mass appealing model was given to Nestle which all customer can see now at multiple of outlets and offices.

Brief
To design a brand new front face for the existing Nestle vending machine. The design
must be smart, young, contemporary and be relevant even 5 years hence. The
interface of the machine must also be intuitive and interesting to go along with the
design of the machine, making the experience of using the vending machine delightful
and fun.
Ease of servicing and cleaning, robustness and durability are features which must be
central to the new design.

Research
A design research was carried out to
understand the usage of the machine
and also the identify and issue with the
current machine in everyday usage.
For this the machine was studied in a
variety of settings i.e. offices, small
shop, train stations, colleges, etc.

Constraints
The Nestle Alegria was given to
Desmania as the benchmark machine.
The scope of project was restricted to
the front bezel while keeping the sheet
metal casing and all its parts the same at
the rear the same.
Also plastic part were to be kept to a
minimum as far as possible

Refinement
Nestle selected two of the concepts
shown to them and asked Desmania to
combine the best of both designs into
one concept.
Once that was done, various control
panel configurations were explored in
order to achieve a clean, easy and
intuitive design. A lot of emphasis was
put on the experience in using the
machine and for this various interactions
based on the lights were also
incorporated into the process of using
the machine.

Mock-up
A solid, non-functional mockup was
made for size and form validation in-
house by Desmania.
The backlit Nestle logo was also tested
on this mock up to get an idea of how
the final product would look when on
