In this chapter there will be quite a bit of dialogue between Magellan, me and Marie going on. I‘m testing an idea I got on boolprop (thanks for the suggestion, Willowdanin!) of giving everyone their own colour so it would be less confusing. Originally I wanted to leave the light green (or light blue for chapters with blue background) for me and white for all Sim characters.
Now, I‘ll still have this green, Magellan‘s thoughts / speech will be white and Marie‘s will be light yellow . (I wanted a colour close enough to white.)
For other Sims, I‘ll go with grey , if it‘s necessary.
Let me know if this helps to understand who is talking, if it‘s too colourful or not or if the yellow is maybe a bit too light - I could adjust this. On my screen it‘s clear enough to distinguish, but then everyone else might have another resolution or contrast setting. ;)
Now, on with the story.
Am I interrupting something? Hehe.
„ Well… Last time I was worried if Meadow and I would love each other…
Turned out that I didn‘t really have to worry about this… we fell in love quite quickly.“
Two bolts, my dear Magellan! I‘m happy for you two.
„ I have to say, our marriage could have been more romantic, really.
But we both knew that was not possible, so a private ceremony was fine, too. It‘s the feeling that counts, isn‘t it?“
And she got over you talking to some invisible being?
„ Got over it? I haven‘t told her that! You think I‘m nuts? It‘s fine that Marie knows but I won‘t tell Meadow!“
*whispers* „Go away! If we have to produce generation 2, we‘ll do without you watching!“
Ok, ok, I‘m gone already. Have fun, you two. Hehe.
„ Too bad it isn‘t Tuesday today. Hopefully there is a good job in the paper…“
*hopes*
*sigh* „Nothing useful. Not even Military.“
I know you want to top this career more than anything else in your life, Magellan. But we have to sort priorities.
If you could clear the phone lines, job searching would be easier, too… and you could still find a military job afterwards with the internet available all the time.
„ I know… you do know Marie wants this more than me, do you?
Yes… but with limited job options? She is still a teenager so we‘ll have to take what we can get.
„ Ok… but nothing remotely useful today, anyway. Well, in four days I can check the internet again.“
Where is the rest of the family?
„ Oh, they are meditating upstairs, with the Jumbok. Marie will grow into an adult soon and hopefully find a job, then food won‘t be so thight. I shudder at the thought that my kids could be too playful to concentrate on meditation…“
Me too, Magellan, me too. Tell me, did Meadow find a job yet?
„ Yes, actually. She got one the day she moved in, online, remember? Paranormal stuff. I wonder why you need to go to college for that .“
Hehe, definitely a master I‘d take… should be fun.
Author‘s note: The punching ball is from Drake going to Athletics track after he topped Science for his LTW. I never let anybody use it but I figured I keep it just in case when someone does Athletics, the career reward does not get unlocked… I have that sometimes.
Uh, Magellan, Meadow is finally pregnant? Yay!
„ Yes… and what do you mean, finally? It took us only two nights and eight tries!“
No comment.
„ By the way, I made a new friend… her name is Dagmar.“
That‘s good, you‘re going to need a lot of friends for all those careers. Have you met the Count and Countess already, too?
„ Not personally. Mum introduced me to them on the phone, though, and we‘ve talked quite a bit.
Dagmar has told me something interesting. Seems the streets aren‘t safe. People keep disappearing, for example. That‘s also why the taxis won‘t come.
She said she‘s afraid, too, but the Mob we have to pay the protection money to promised to see to her safety.“
That‘s a very interesting information, Magellan. Maybe Dagmar will have more news another day.
„ I‘ll make sure to ask her.“
Please do.
„ Oh, look, Dad has topped the Athletics career! He is a bit grumpy, though.“
Why is that?
„ Oh, he invented some form of new exercise, but he said it wasn‘t approved… I told him not to worry, he has accomplished so much already!“
Oh, you got a job, Magellan, that‘s great!
„ Yes. It‘s Gamer career, actually. And it‘s not as bad as I thought. It‘s fun, actually. I still want to be a General some time, though.“
I swear, as soon as you cleared those phone lines, you can go and join the military and I won‘t let anything stop you!
„ We‘ve got a deal!“
„ Creator, please make sure Meadow stays close to the Jumbok while pregnant, ok?“
I‘m trying, Magellan, but she is stubborn. I think she really does not like meditating at all. But don‘t worry, she and the baby will be fine, I‘ll see to that.
„ I just wished she could stay at home until the baby is born!“
Well, look at it from the bright side… she gets fed at work.
„ True.“
What‘s going on with the rest of the family?
„ Well, not that much, really. Möbius and Mendela spend most of their time together… and still love to smustle as you can see! I‘m glad they are making the best of this. Though it‘s probably true what you said to me when we had our first talk… if you don‘t know what you‘re missing, it‘s not so bad.“
„ Oh, and Marie grew into an adult! I think she really liked Meadow‘s hairstyle, that‘s why she let her hair grow.“
*sniff* I really liked her short messy haircut…
But she turned out beautiful.
„ Yes, and guess what?“
What?
„ She found a job in the Education career. She said since I‘m already taking care of the phone lines, she wants to make sure her niece or nephew can go to high school some day. Well, you know, she‘s knowledge and all.“
I know. I was very afraid she might take it harder that she never got a higher education, though.
„ Oh, I bet she is sad… but I‘m really proud how she held up!“
Author‘s note: I have no idea why she did not have a breakdown growing up uneducated… but I‘m certainly not complaining!
„ Oh, creator… I‘m really tired today. I better get straight to bed…“ *yawn*
Um, but Magellan, today… Magellan?
Magellan! I know you‘re tired but you really should get up now!
„ Zzzzzz…. why….. Zzzzz?“
Your wife is having the baby.
„ Zzzzzz…. Meadow is so loud…“
Magellan! Baby!
„ Zzzzzz…. baby….. Zzzzz… wait, baby?“
„ Oh, that was fast!“
I doubt Meadow thinks the same.
„ I‘m a father! And it‘s a girl!“
„ Isn‘t she beautiful? I like the name you picked, creator. Braille. What does it mean?“
Oh, Louis Braille invented the written language of the blind. He lived in France in the 19th century.
„ I wonder what she will invent some day.“
„ I‘m so glad that the twins help Meadow and me with little Braille. Trying to raise a child and getting promoted at the same time is quite a challenge.
By the way, creator, did you notice that Braille has red hair? Just like Mum does!“
Yes, I know. Er, where is your Mum, anyway, Magellan?
„ Oh, she and Dad meditate most of the time now, upstairs in the highest room.“
Ah, that‘s why I never see them around…
„ Oh, my little girl is growing up so fast! And I wasn‘t even there for her birthday.“
You got a promotion, though.
„ Well… that‘s at least something.“
Don‘t feel bad for missing this birthday, Magellan. There is still so much you can teach Braille. Besides, she looks really happy, doesn‘t she? She lives here with her parents, grandparents and two aunts and an uncle – she‘ll never be neglected!
„ I guess you are right, creator. I‘ll make sure to teach her a few toddler skills myself, though. Besides, I‘m not best friends with my own daughter yet!“
Oh, for a moment I really thought you had forgotten you where a Popularity Sim, Magellan.
Now go and get some creativity skills for your next promotion, I‘ll keep an eye on the family.
Later that night…
„ Magellan!“
I have an odd feeling…
„ What‘s the matter, Marie?“
„ You won‘t believe it… I don‘t even know if I believe it myself… I had another dream tonight!“
„ Another dream? About what? Mum and Dad again?“
„ No… well, yes, they were there, too. But it wasn‘t the past this time… Magellan, I think this time I dreamt about the future.“
Oh.
„ That‘s not possible… is it, creator?“
To be honest – with this family, I‘m afraid anything is possible.
„ Ok, Marie… tell me everything you saw.“
„ It wasn‘t so strange at first… I dreamt about Braille. You tought her how to talk, you know?“
„ Then the scene changed and you were coming home from work the next day… Magellan, you topped the Gamer Career! Thanks to you the phone lines will be open again and we‘ll also have internet!
You went to look for a job in the Military, but you didn‘t find one that day, sorry to tell you.“
„ Well, that wouldn‘t be so bad… I still have quite some time left to find it. What else happened?“
Author has to resist the urge to kiss her Sim / screen… Gamer is one the worst restrictions for me, thank you, thank you, thank you. Ok, feel free to ignore this little outbreak.
„ Oh, the next thing were that the twins grew up!“
„ They were both sad about not getting any more education, but seeing that I already worked on changing that for the future generations, they were quite calm about it.“
„ And I also saw Braille growing into a cute young girl! The clothes she picked weren‘t really suitable for the cold weather, but I guess she is used to the cold, anyway…“
„ You spent a lot of time with her after her birthday, brother. I think you even stayed at home from work… you didn‘t need to work in that area any longer, anyway.“
„ Seeing her in the bathroom washing her hands reminded me of our childhood – god, I hated being stinky, remember?“
„ Möbius bothered this, too. So he took a job as a nurse. He wanted to find a way to clean the water so no kids would have to be stinky any more.“
I always knew he‘d be a doctor!
„ It took a bit longer for Mendela, but eventually she found a job… she joined the military!“
„ No way!“
„ Oh, yes. And you did, too.“
„ Wouldn‘t that be great if it all came true like this?“
„ Well… maybe not all…“
„ Why not? What did you see?“
„ I… well… I saw how Dad died…“
„ No!“
„ Yes. And the worst is that he was only 65 days old.“ *sniff*
„ But… that‘s not fair. He can‘t die so young!“
„ I know… It was terrible, Mum was heartbroken and cried a lot...“
„ Everyone was so sad! Möbius took it worst, though. He wouldn‘t stop crying and he wouldn‘t come inside the whole evening…“
„ But it got even worse. The next day Mum died, too… right… right… right in this room!“
„ Her… urn… will be over there… by the machine Dad brought home from his first job….“ *sobs*
„ Oh Marie…“
„ It was horrible to see, Magellan, it really was!“
„ But… but it was just a dream. We don‘t know if everything will happen like that. Dad might just live to be 70 or 80, you know. And Mum, too.
Oh, Marie, please, calm down.“
*sobs some more*
„ I know… I shouldn‘t be so worried. I know Mom and Dad will die some day… it was just so horrible to watch!
But at least… I guess they died happy, you know? Or will die. Oh, this is confusing!“ *sighs*
„ But this isn‘t everything. I also saw some good news.“
„ Tell me.“
„ Well… you and Meadow are going to have another baby!“
„ Really? Oh, wow. That would be great, yes.“
„ And Braille will be quite a good student… in my dream she liked to play chess just like we did. She was a lot better than I used to be, though.“
„ And… she cheated when she played with Möbius. He never found out… or will never find out… maybe I should warn him. If that wouldn‘t sound so odd. ‘Hey, Magellan, you know, the baby you are feeding will one day beat you at chess because she likes to cheat.‘“
„ I seriously doubt he would believe you, yes…“
„ I‘m not sure I believe it myself! I mean… it‘s one thing to dream about a past you never experienced. That‘s scary enough – but the future? I don‘t want to see what could happen… it scares the hell out of me.“
„ It is just a dream, though. I mean, we can‘t know for sure everything will come true.“
„ No, we can‘t… but still. Anyway, I should tell you what else happenend.“
„ There‘s more?“
„ Oh, yes.
Not sure if the chess helped, but Braille got an A+ in my dream as well!“
„ Good girl! Sorry, sis, go on.“
„ And your wife went to work even while pregnant… she said she did not want to loose the job.“
„ Möbius got promoted quickly when he went to work, but somehow after a promotion he always had one or more days off, so all in all it took quite a while. He was annoyed about this… I guess he had hoped that his new nephew or niece would be able to have baths as a toddler but obviously it would not work out quite that way.“
„ Oh, and Mendela… she… got herself a boyfriend.“
„ A… boyfriend. “
„ Oh, come on, it‘s not like she was a teenager anymore! And Robi seemed really nice. They wanted to move in together once Mendela hat secured the streets as a General.“
„ Oh, does this mean… did you find out if we got some clue what caused this apocalypse?“
„ Not really. I‘m sure I haven‘t seen every talk and chat, though. I guess if you two join the military, at least you will find out why the taxis won‘t come and why people go missing.“
„ Well, I hope so. This would mean a step forward.“
„ Mendela also swore she saw Dad‘s ghost one night! Said that sight really scared her at first, but then she found it quite exciting.“
„ Dad‘s ghost went upstairs into the bedroom but then she could not see him anymore… Braille was asleep up there, but did not notice anything unusual. I‘m not sure if Mendela made this up… but seeing a ghost would be really exciting, wouldn‘t it?“
„ Well, I could live without the experience, thank you.“
„ You had an unfortunate accident the following evening, dear brother… don‘t worry, nothing serious. The energizer malfunctioned…“
„ Which made you pass out in the kitchen a few minutes later. Bad timing, really, because while you where asleep on the kitchen floor…“
„ Meadow went into labour!“
„ Oh, no, I slept during the birth of my second child, too?“
„ Yes, sorry to say so…“
„ But your son was born happy and healthy, don‘t worry. And Meadow was fine, too.“
„ A son! Wow, that is… amazing!“
„ His name was Kepler.“
„ Kepler, hm? What does that mean, creator?“
Oh, well, Johannes Kepler was a German astronomer. He laid down the laws of planetary motion somewhen in the 17th century. And the university in my hometown is named after him. He wrote his Opus Magnum here in Linz, Austria.
„ Kepler… sounds like a good name to me.“
I‘m glad you approve.
„ The next thing I dreamt about was Braille again. She was a bit unlucky and had bad gelatin.“
„ She felt really bad for two days. Food poisoning isn‘t something to joke with. Poor child.“
„ Oh, my poor girl! Well… I‘ll make sure to tell her never to eat spoiled food, maybe we can avoid this then.“
„ That‘s a good idea. Maybe this dream isn‘t so bad after all...“
„ By the way, Braille did not complain much about being sick… she was just in a foul mood! She‘s got quite a temper as it would seem.“
„ Still, she grew up with a smile…“
„ And, did she take after me? Being Popularity? Or rather her mother?“
„ Neither… She became Romance.“
„ Romance?? My little girl chasing after boys? Oh, I‘ll make sure I‘ll prevent that from happening!“
„ Don‘t worry, Magellan. She might have rolled Romance, but she has the same heart for her family as you do. She loves her little brother to bits, feeding him and caring for him all the time.“
„ And she got up during the night to care for him so we could sleep or meditate for our promotions… She claimed she got scared by the ghosts a few times then.“
„ I guess Mum and Dad just wanted to introduce themselves…
I‘m glad I seem to be able to make Braille realize how important this family‘s work is.“
„ Well, she was not all about work, though…“
„ What do you mean by that?“
„ Um, nothing… anyway…“
„ I saw Kepler as a toddler! He was adorable, Magellan! Meadow taught him how to walk… I think you took care of the talking, though. He picked things up pretty quicky.“
„ But Meadow wasn‘t fond of the smell. In these moments she reminded me a lot of Mum, I have to say that.“
„ I also got to see Kepler as a little boy… he is adorable. Or was. Or will be. Well, you know.“
„ The dream ended with Mendela and you heading off for work as astronauts… I have no idea what will happen next.“
„ Wow. And you dreamt all this? It‘s amazing you remembered even all the small details!“
„ I know. That‘s what makes me think it wasn‘t a normal dream… but I don‘t really want to believe it could be anything else…“
„ Creator?“
Yes?
„ What do you think? Could this… really come true?“
I don‘t know, Magellan… but as I said before: With this family, there is not much that can surprise me. I‘d say there is a good chance that it will all happen just like that.
„ What does she say, Magellan?“
„ It might very well… come true.“
„ So… basically… we already know everything that is going to happen? We have to tell the others!“
„ No, Marie. We can‘t do that!“
„ But…“
„ First of all, we don‘t know everything. We know a lot of important things, but we don‘t know which little decisions everyone of us will make everyday. It will be hard for us to wait if everything comes true or not, we don‘t want to lay that burden on the others. Do you want to worry Möbius and Mendela with the knowledge of our parents‘ death, for example?“
„ N… not really…“
„ See? That‘s why we have to keep this between you and me. And - we have to make sure this family stays safe and this dream of yours might help us keep our confidence. There were a lot of good things in it, right?“
„ R.right…“
„ I guess it‘s rougher for you… I didn‘t see those things myself but you… you are still shaking.“
Magellan pulled his sister into a hug.
„ Are you very tired?“
„ Not really… I feel wide awake, actually.“
„ Ok, we‘ll just go downstairs. I can meditate there just as well as up here and you can read a book or something, to relax. Don‘t worry, we can work it out. Go ahead, I‘ll be downstairs in a minute.“
I think you managed to reassure her, Magellan.
„ I hope so. Creator?“
Um, yes?
„ It is a bit scary to know what‘s going to happen.“
Don‘t worry. Just remember what you just told your sister. There are a lot of good things waiting for you in your future.
The next evening…
„ Magellan… I thought maybe… when Braille is a bit older… we could try for another baby. What do you think?“
„ I think I‘d like another child… maybe a son…“
So much for this part! I hope you liked it and it wasn‘t too confusing with those two timelines… don‘t worry, I won‘t make a weird time paradoxon out of it. Not more than it already is, I mean. ;)
The most important question I‘m asking myself… will I manage to get all the adults to top their careers? And why the heck am I getting so many chance cards all the time? I usually get two or three per Sim / career… with this family it‘s five at least. Is there a chance card gene? Like the twins gene? Er, ok. Just wish me luck. :)
Meadow‘s job-stunt: First I got her into Paranormal (it showed up on the computer the day she moved in) and she made it to Level 9! Unfortunately, a few hours before she gave birth to Kepler, she refused to go to work… and after Kepler was born, the option on the car was gone (he was born after midnight, so I think the game counted it the next (free) day even though her shift wasn‘t over yet). Alas, she had to quit and I got her into Show Business. Dates and CC will be fun as well if she makes it. I just hope I can get her into Education before she ages to Elder, so she can get permaplat as well. But we love the apocalypse for the challenge, don‘t we? ;)
Fun Facts:
Braille: Romance; Gemini; 2/9/9/7/1; LTW => Become Hall of Famer
Kepler: Gemini; 4/8/9/5/6
Can‘t get rid of the 9 active points, it seems.
Magellan => Gamer Restriction lifted! Changed to Military for LTW.
Marie => currently in Education career track
Mendela => currently in Military career track
Möbius => currently in Medical career track
Meadow => currently in Show Business career track
Drake lived to be 65 Sim days old. (*sniff* He got perma-plat shortly after his birthday…)
Kaylar lived to be 76 Sim days old.
Kaylar and Drake, you will be missed!

What else?
Thanks to Darby for inspiring me… When you described Marie as psychic it somehow triggered the idea of precognition and made me tell this chapter the way I did. :)
Oh, I know I have a job confusion… Three careers in the process of unlocking and three Sims who have these careers as lifetime want, but they all work in another career… Well, what can I say, I took what I could get. ;) (And Meadow has to unlock a uni career before she can go into Education.)
But I know one thing: I‘ll get Braille into Athletics and let her lift that restriction… less fuss. ^^
