  • Shouldn't Question #1 be 'Should I do this business process in-house or should I outsource it?'

The reason I put this forward is that unless you're a marketing agency or marketing consultant, doing content marketing is not a core business process for you and should therefore be outsourced. It's the same as payroll, public relations, large-scale I.T., and a lot of H.R. If you're a computer company, then you shouldn't be doing payroll, PR, IT, HR, or content marketing in-house. If you're a solar panel manufacturer, you shouldn't be doing payroll, PR, IT, HR, or content marketing in-house. Etc., etc. This concept has been well established in business for decades. Even marketers have outsourced advertising and PR for decades. Why would content marketing be any different?

The responsible executive should at least pose the question.

Otherwise, this is a terrific and useful primer for those who are committed to a marketing automation investment.
