2. Target Audience
• My target audience for my pop music magazine is males
and females aged between 16 and 25 years of age. They
will be people who are open minded and are open to trying
out new genres and learning about different types of music
through my magazine. I chose this target audience because
this age range is the most up-to-date audience that is
heavily exposed to mass culture. I have made a
questionnaire in which 27 males and females completed.
The questions were created so they could help me identify
what people look for in music magazines and other
different ideas like how they actually read the magazine.
The results will help me greatly to decide what to do with
my magazine.
3. Age
• The results of my survey for this question show that the
majority of the people who completed the survey were
within my target audience age range, so the results will
definitely help to show what this audience want in music
magazines.
4. Gender
• In my survey there were 15 males and 12 females that completed the survey. As my
target audience will be both males and females, the results from this survey will help me
establish what my target audience wants in my pop music magazine.

5. What appeals to the target audience
• The results that show what makes a music magazine stand out to the audience highlight
that: The brand (logo), House style and Celebrities in particular appeal to my target audience
the most. This means that: I should make sure my brand is seen on all of my pages, I should
make sure house style is good and consistent throughout and I should have stories and photos
on celebrities too.
6. Price
• As my target audience is within the typical student age range
the magazine must be affordable to still retain an audience.
The results below show that most people would pay £2.00 £3.99 for a music magazine. This result will help me when
deciding what price to sell my magazine for to keep my
audience pleased.
7. Preferences in music magazines
• For all of the options in this question the lowest got 50% of
people liking interesting articles within the magazine. This
gives me an indication that I should try and involve all of
these aspects in my music magazine as many people like
them in their music magazines. For example, famous
people was one of the most popular options in this
question so I should be sure to add many famous artists’
names on the front cover and contents page to draw in
their fan base too.

8. How music magazines are read
• It is obvious that more people read hard copies of
music magazines because online versions and ereaders are still in their infancy. However, I think
that I will include an online link to the music
magazines website where you can look at the
online version as it is a new concept that is
getting more popular.
9. Social networks
• Facebook and twitter seem to be the most popular
answer on this question. This shows me that I should
be sure to have my music magazine’s facebook page
and twitter account advertised to keep everyone
updated. Myspace and google+ are not so popular so I
am going to stick with facebook and twitter as I know
myself how popular these networks are.
10. Why do you read music magazines?
In this question I let people answer in their own words. From the
results it seem most people read music magazines to keep up to
date with the music world and celebrities and also to have fun.
This means I must have new content in my magazine with up and
coming artists along with the artists of today. I should also try to
interact with my audience as much as possible with competitions,
quizzes, etc. I should also try to entertain my audience as much as
possible so they can enjoy the magazine.

For fun
Interesting to read.
Cause I like to see what celebs are doing
Fun to read and good to know what everyone's doing and what albums are good
See above
Something to read whilst I have a break or rest. Interesting reads most of the
time. Music mags have much more personality than any other style of mags for me.
