15. Concentration
The central idea of my concentration is to
explore how color affects the mood of
portraits, incorporating the psychology of color
into the depiction. I chose each particular
chroma to express different emotions such as
sadness, loneliness, joy, or mystery.
16. Concentration Statement
I started with black and white and then added minimal bright colors as in
piece 2. Black and white colors represent sophistication therefore these
pieces show restrained emotions. Then, I investigated slightly more color to
transition into portraits that expressed more attitude and temperaments. The
browns predominately used in pieces 3 and 4 represent the same seriousness
as black, but with a much warmer tone. These warmer tones evoke stronger
feelings from the viewer. Then I chose pastel colors, as in piece 6, to depict
feelings that are delicate and feminine. Subsequently I investigated
contrasting colors, as in 7 and 8, which represent bold assertion. In an
attempt to return to the principal components of color, I looked at primary
colors. To achieve this, I investigated the main design aspect of the portrait as
I moved into the digital manipulation of my artwork. Blue represents stability
and lack of friendliness as in piece 9. Yellow represents confidence and
optimism as in piece 10. Red represents courage, survival, and strength as in
piece 11. Then I finished my investigation by infusing all three primary colors
in piece 12 which creates movement and an assimilation of all the emotions.
