3. HIV คืออะไร ?
HIV = Human Immunodeficiency Virus
Retrovirus @ Sub.Fam. Lentivirus
AIDs
[Acquired Immune Dificiency Syndrome]
(Symptom)
4. The Structure of HIV
•

Outside of a human cell
HIV exists as roughly spherical particles (sometimes called virions).
The surface of each particle is studded with lots of little spikes.
An HIV particle is around 100-150 billionths of a metre in diameter.
That's about the same as:
– 0.1 microns
– 4 millionths of an inch
– one twentieth of the length of an E. coli bacterium
– one seventieth of the diameter of a human CD4+ white blood cell.
– T cell, B cell, Monocyte, Macrophage, Dendritic cell, Bone
marrow precursor, Langerhans cell
– Gila cell, Brain cappillary endothelium
• Cell อื่นๆ ได้แก่ Kuffer cell, Bowel, Cervical epithelium
Important Reservoirs of HIV @ Body
Brain ; microglia cell, macrophage
Bone marrow ; macrophage
Gut ; T cell, macrophage
• Virus เกาะ @ recptor CD4 on cell surface
• Virus แทรกตัว ทะลุ cell wall
• Virus จะให้ enz. RT (Reverse Transcriptase) สร้าง RNA
DNA
• Virus DNA เชื่อมกับ DNA of Cell Host
• Stimulation Production of RNA

Step
1: Host cell binding and virus entry
2: Uncoating the viral capsid
3: Transcription
4: Integration into host cell DNA
5: Virus protein synthesis and assembly
6: Exocytosis or storage within the host cell
Mutations and latency as inhibiting factors of complete HIV

• Provirus + DNA of Host cell Replicate
DNA of Host Cell
23. WHO clinical staging of HIV disease in
adults and adolescents (2006 revision)
• In resource-poor settings, medical facilities are sometimes
poorly equipped and tests to measure CD4 count and viral
load are unavailable. In this case, another method to
determine whether an individual should begin treatment is
used.
• The World Health Organisation (WHO) developed a staging system
for HIV disease based on clinical symptoms, which may be used
to guide medical decision making.
