Box girders have many structural advantages when compared to plate girders
and truss girders. Some of the advantages are:
high torsional rigidities
wide top and bottom flanges to carry longitudinal & lateral forces
large internal space to accommodate services
simple maintenance due to easy access to the interior of the superstructure
better appearance due to high slenderness and smooth bottom surfaces.
Due to the high torsional rigidity of this type of cross-section, box girders are a
very convenient solution for moving bridges, subjected to lateral forces as a
result of acceleration, braking or bumping of Cranes / Traverser on the end stop
due to human error / failure of systems.
The advantage is associated with a higher natural frequency of torsional vibration
of the deck avoiding an interaction with the fundamental mode corresponding to
vertical vibrations (flexure mode). The risk of flutter instabilities is thus

 Transfer cars manufactured by us are in diverse factories handling hot metal, steel
coils and heavy reactor components.
 We manufacture winches for hauling as well as handling heavy material
 We manufacture other Material Handling Equipments like Rotators for welding as
also for non destructive testing of large diameter vessels, Assembly Platforms and
any other special purpose cranes as per client’s requirements.
 Various Railway workshops in India including a well known multinational company
manufacturing coaches for metro rails use our Traversers for handling of coaches,
wagons and other rolling stocks.
 Our Cranes for Thermal and Hydro Electric Power Stations include cranes for
handling Gates, Pumps,  as well as turbine stators and rotors in such Power
Stations.

Gate Hoisting Crane for Hydro Station.

 We have supplied scores of cranes of upto 300T capacity for handling of
turbine components in the various Thermal and Hydro Power Stations
under construction. These cranes are meant for operation in tandem. In
such tandem operation from any of the cranes, both the cranes can be
operated simultaneously . A level sensing switch is incorporated in the
lifting beam which will trip both the cranes in tandem operation in the
case of unequal lifting by the cranes. Two cranes of 275t capacity each
are for tandem operation with a 500t capacity lifting beam, also supplied
by us.
Cranes in tandem are also used in Railway Workshops for handling
Locomotives and Railway coaches.

Handling Railway Coaches

 For Nuclear Power Stations, we have been manufacturing Single Failure Proof
Cranes conforming to Nureg specifications. These include a 280t Single Failure
Proof crane for a new Nuclear Power Station. In a Nuclear Power Station ,
safety gets a higher priority and hence the concept of Single Failure Proof
system. The hoist mechanism at every stage has a backup. There are two
rope reeving systems independent of each other. Each system can, with full
safety , handle the entire load and lower, raise and hold it as desired.
Therefore, with the failure of one system, the hoist mechanism remains
operational.
We have supplied a fairly large number of such cranes for Nuclear Power
Plants in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Rajasthan and U.P. In addition, we
have supplied a four trolley 100t capacity Single Failure Proof crane system for
fuelling our Nuclear Submarines.
 We manufacture, in collaboration with Bingham of U.K., Coach Washing Plants
for external cleaning of complete Railway rakes.
 In collaboration with McLanahan of Australia and USA, we manufacture
Feeder Breaker and associated equipment for Petroleum Coke for Refineries
and Petro Chemicals.

LOAD TEST
Where required, the load test of cranes and other equipment manufactured
by us is carried out in our shops. We have a pit over which we can load test
EOT cranes with upto 250t of load. In another shop, we have a high bay in
which we have tested cranes with 350t of load. Kindly appreciate that very
few manufacturers the world over, have the capacity to load test cranes
manufactured by them to this extent.
TRANSFER CARS
Transfer cars manufactured by us carry hot metal ladles, scrap charging
buckets, steel coils in various steel plants as also they carry large Reactor
components in Nuclear Power Plants on a 400t capacity system supplied by
us.
WINCHES
We manufacture winches for various operations, having supplied 29 mine
sinking winches to the erstwhile Soviet Union. We had supplied co-ordinated
four Winch systems for handling of Ash trays for 210mW Boilers for a Thermal
Power Plant. Recent supplies include two units of 125t capacity with
supporting structure for handling of heavy material and Transformers for a
hydroelectric power station.

 Due attention is paid to ensure quality of our products. This starts with our
workmen, who are disciplined, dedicated and highly skilled. Our welders are
qualified according to ASME section IX. They and other workers periodically
undergo programmes for enhancement of their skills in their respective trades.
 All incoming material is tested. Steel plates, bought from prime manufacturers
with traceable test certificates are ultrasonically tested. All castings and
forgings are accepted only after they pass the specified non destructive tests.
Similarly all bought out components undergo thorough inspection before
acceptance. Physical tests including ultimate tensile strength and Charpy tests
are carried out.
 During fabrication all important welds are subjected to Radiographic
inspection, including butt welds in the girder flanges and webs.
 The Quality Assurance Dept. Carries out various stage inspections and
coordinates with the client and his inspection agency for final tests.
