Imagine you have to search the web for your, your partner‘s or your daughter‘s intimate pictures and videos. Well, that is an extremely unlikely situation to be in. Is it?
Millions of people are affected and numbers are rising. Image-based sexual abuse has different reasons. Anyone can be affected as pictures and videos are often taken secretly or faked and most victims just find out by coincidence. Once the pictures have been uploaded they spread widely and uncontrollably on the internet. Victims experience severe psychological and physical distress and society as a whole suffers. While victims suffer, porn platforms profit from the clicks. And searching the web for intimate pictures requires time and expertise and often leads to re-traumatization.
Am I in Porn? enables victims to easily and securely find and take down their images and subsequently receive the help they need. Since the software went live in 2020 we have analyzed >10 million videos and had >150.000 users while getting warm and loving feedback. Our goal is to stop the distribution of illegally shared images and videos on major porn platforms, torrents, messenger services etc.
Hope you enjoy the presentation and insights around image-based sexual abuse. Reach out to us if this got you interested!

Overview Am I In Porn? | Fighting Image-Based Sexual Abuse including “revenge porn”

2. Imagine you have to search the web for your, your partner‘s or
your daughter‘s intimate pictures and videos.
Well, that is an extremely unlikely situation to be in.
Is it?
3. It all began in 2018 with an affected person of our closed by friends. Pictures and videos of her were posted online
against her will by her ex-boyfriend. She was scared and depressed. And it's the same for so many people today. No
matter what culture you are in, in what country you live in, what social environment you are in or what gender you are.
We haven’t met a single person who told us that this wouldn’t happen where she or he lives or is coming from.
Based on this story we have built Am I In Porn? . We have also teamed up with ANNANACKT and founded the
NGO Digital Dignity e.V . Here we try to make the internet a safe space with different ideas and projects. Our focus
right now is on non-consensual porn and image-based sexual abuse (which includes “revenge porn”).
We have created a global community of volunteers who share the same purpose and want to help people. Intrinsically
motivated and with their hearts in it. Whether in Venezuela, Brazil, Nigeria, Pakistan, USA, Russia, Turkey or anywhere
else in the world.
We all pursue the same purpose. Helping people.

The Cause: Image-based sexual abuse has different reasons
Easy-to-use technologies, such as
deepfake, make the creation and
dissemination of abuse material
easier yet more difficult to detect.
New technologies
Social media, porn platforms and
alike profit financially from the clicks.
They enable perpetrators to
anonymously (re-) upload abuse
material, while only slowly reacting to
take-down requests from victims.
Police officers lack the technical
skills and the understanding of the
dynamics of the problem. As a result,
perpetrators are rarely identified and
prosecuted.
Ignorance of platforms
Inaction of the police
6. Digital Dignity e.V. | amiinporn.org
The Spread: Anyone can be affected as pictures and videos are often
taken secretly or faked and most victims just find out by coincidence
Perpetrators specifically
seek contact with girls and
boys online, build up a
relationship of trust and
persuade them to send
them nude pictures.
Cyber Grooming
Unknown perpetrators
secretly film people, e.g. in
the sauna or in public
toilets, and post the
content online.
An ex-partner uploads
intimate pictures out of
revenge or unknown
perpetrators gain access to
the pictures through
computer hacks and upload
them.
Secretly taken photos &
videos
Revenge Porn &
Computer Hacks
Perpetrators use deep fake
technology to create fake
nude images that look
deceptively real, and
distribute them online.

The Case: Once the pictures have been uploaded they spread widely
and uncontrollably on the internet
Real case
Nicole
Her intimate pictures
and videos were
uploaded by an
ex-partner. A group of
perpetrators
downloaded the
pictures and shared
them widely.
>2,500 URLs
with Nicole’s nudes, BDSM- and
Blowjob-fakes and sexist hate speech.

different porn user accounts who
anonymously spread the content.
~10 years
since images have been shared. They are
uploaded several hundred times every Year.
8. Digital Dignity e.V. | amiinporn.org
The Consequence: Victims experience severe psychological and
physical distress and society as a whole suffers
Sources: MK & WN:“Revenge Pornography: Mental Health Implications and Related Legislation“, Journal of the American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law Online (2016); SB: “Revenge Porn and Mental Health: A
Qualitative Analysis of the Mental Health Effects of Revenge Porn on Female Survivors”, Feminist Criminology (2016); KZ: “The long trauma of revenge porn” Oxford University Press (2019)
Victims: Mostly women and members of the LGBTQI+ community aged 16 – 35 years
• Severe and long-term mental health consequences, such as feeling helpless, social isolation,
paranoia, PTSD, depression and suicidal thoughts
• Higher physical distress, such as pain and fatigue
• Job loss and difficulties in gaining future employment
Society: Everyone
• Less diverse digital space as victims are less likely to use social media and engage in online
discussions
• Increased government costs, e.g. for health care
• Decreased government income, e.g. loss in tax income
9. Digital Dignity e.V. | amiinporn.org
While victims suffer, porn platforms profit from the clicks
• xHamster, one of the largest porn platform
globally, reports an increase in demand of
>100% for videos in categories such as
„public“, „expose“ and „hidden cam“
• These categories are exactly the categories
where image-based abuse material can be
found. For example:
○ Secretly filmed videos from the sauna
are typically found in “public” or
“hidden cam”
○ “Revenge porn” to expose an
ex-partner is found in “Exposed”
• Given the increase in demand, porn platforms
are incentivized to leave this material on
their platform
• Without effective regulation in place, porn
platforms do not take any meaningful action
to support victims

10. So again, imagine you have to search the web for your, your
partner‘s or your daughter‘s intimate pictures and videos.
Where would you start?
11. Digital Dignity e.V. | amiinporn.org
Searching the web for intimate pictures requires time and expertise
and often leads to re-traumatization
Police? Justice system?
Lack the technical expertise, legal mandate and resources to
search for content.
Text-based search engine (e.g. Google)?
Blocked many porn sites from their search results. Relevant
search terms often difficult to know. Questionable data privacy
regulations.
Reputation service providers (e.g. yourreputation24.com)?
Requires sharing personal details with a private company that
is focused on revenue. The providers also have a limited set of
standard measures they can take to find the content.
Knowing when and where intimate
pictures have been uploaded online
is very difficult.
• It requires time to use search
engines and search porn sites.
• It requires expertise to know where
to search and with which terms.
• It requires mental strength to deal
with the trauma of finding intimate
picture online again and again.
12. None of this sounds very positive, does it?
We agree.
Here comes our solution.
