• We can classificate the food groups according to:
Origin: Animal or vegetable
Organism functions: energetic, structural and regulatory
Depends on their nutritive content: milk, meat, vegetables…
• Now, we will follow our classification according to their nutritive content:
Milk and milk products.
Meats, fish, eggs and vegetables.
Potatoes, cereals y derivatives.
Vegetables.
Fruits.
Fats, oils y nuts.
Sweet sugars.
3. MILK AND MILK PRODUCTS
• Between the foods that compose that group, we can destacate:
Milk: whole milk, skimmed, semi-skimmed, powder, condensed…
Yogurt: whole yogurt, semi-skimmed and skimmed.
Different cheeses: sheep, goat…
Cream.
Curd.
Butter.
Custard.
Milk shakes: Vanilla, cocoa…
Dairy desserts puddings, ice cream, rice pudding…
4. MILK AND MILK PRODUCTS:
• This group is characterized by:
Contains proteins with a high biological quality.
Contains lactose which helps the development of intestinal flora.
Has got a low quantity of fat (3-4%), except cheese , which has got more than
30%.
Containing short fatty acids easily absorbed.
Give us calcium and phosphorous.. They are a very important calcium sources.
They are sources of D, B and A vitamin.
Has got animal origin.
Has got a correct digestibility.
5. MILK AND MILK PRODUCTS:
• Milk and milk products are a very important food that everybody must consume every day.
• The calcium input is vital for our bones develop and health.
• A diet which has not got a daily input of calcium, may provoca problems in children growth
and development or even demineralization in adults.
• This group is located in the third level of the nutritional pyramid (the post is published in our
blog). The recommendations are consuming 2-4 racions/day of that type of food.
6. CAUTIONS ABOUT THE CONSUMPTION
OF DAIRY PRODUCTS
We should be careful with:
• In case of dyslipidemia or obesity, we recommend changing the
whole milk by skimmed milk. And also eat cheese with a low
amount of fats.
• In case of lactose intolerance, we must change normal milk by
other which has got a low amount of lactose or even by soymilk.
• People who has lactose intolerance can eat yogurt or cheese,
because they has got a low lactose amount.
• Pay attention to natural foods in the milk sector and which may
contain bacteria and other microbes if they have been treated.
