Waste Heat Recovery System
In Cement Industry
Health Safety & Environment
Summer-2015
GSESIT-FEST
Hamdard University
2. Waste Heat Recovery (WHR)
It’s a utilization of Industrial Waste Heat develop during the manufacturing
of product before it enter in the environment. This Heat energy is utilize by
Combine Cycle/Cogeneration in form of Steam or Electricity for the plant
5. The Rotary Kiln of Cement Plant
• It a steel tube which rotate 250 time per hour.
• At front end the fuel is burn to get 2400F to 4000F
(1300C to 2200C)
• At the exhaust filter clean out the gasses but heat is
usually vanish out to environment
7. Technology Use
Organic Rankine Cycle:
Examples of working fluids
CFC, HCFCs, HFCs, HCs, PFCs, Flame able byproducts like
(iso-butane, pentane, propane)
Waste heat boilers:
Capture waste heat from exhaust air or from flue gasses.
Approximately 25% of rejected gasses are utilize back.
8. Industry uses Waste Heat Recovery
• Cement industry
• Glass industry
• Steel industry
• Non ferrous furnaces
• Refineries
• IC-engines and gas turbines
9. Industrial Example
Tri-generation,
Combined Heat,
Power and Cooling
(CHPC)
Tri-generation or Tri-gen is the
simultaneous generation of following
from a single heat source.
• Electricity
• Heat( steam / hot water)
• Cooling
