  • Welcome to this Freedomsoft presentation[enter]My name is Vanessa and I’m here to introduce a new paradigm in data management
  • [enter]Let’s face it, a computer can’t think for on its own. So every little step must be programmed correctly to get out what we want. [enter]But computers do follow instructions well and will do so millions of times without making a mistake
  • [enter]But we can work stuff out and can even recognise mistakes and fix them[enter]But we do get bored easily[enter]So we aren’t good at following instructions millions of time over
  • We want the best of both worlds[enter]We don’t want to spend so much time telling computers what to do – we want them to work it out for themselves[enter]So let’s get them thinking a little bit more like us
  • [enter]Cognitive Psychology [enter] theorises that all ideas and memories are linked[enter]And this linking is how we retrieve memories. So let me work through an example
  • [enter]When I think about going to lunch [enter] I’ll think about my favourite cafe and perhaps a cold drink[enter]But after remembering my favourite cafe I remember the lovely lasagne they make[enter]Mum used to make a lovely lasagne – but that’s not relevant at the moment[enter]By following this process I’ve worked out whewre I want to go for lunch and what I want when I get there[enter]No-one had to instruct me to formulate this. Spread of Activation simply linked the relevant memories together
  • [enter]Spread of Activation does not give us our consciousness but it does contribute to our intelligence[enter]How we link our thoughts together, how we test our theories and how we correct our errors all rely on Spread of Activation[enter]Freedombase is a software implementation of the Spread of Activation theory
  • [enter]It embraces the good[enter]Without the bad[enter]Freedombase is applied in, or over the top of, databases to cognitively manage the data
  • [enter]Freedombase [enter] is to data [enter]what our minds are to memoriesLong pause
  • [enter]Freedombase eliminates most of the coding required to build and maintain focussed data solutions[enter]When pointed at an existing database, Freedombase can learn the data structures and relationships and then manage that data without coding[enter]Freedombase understands business rules and can prevent data integrity issues altogether[enter]Coding is replaced by simple expressions similar to a spreadsheet[enter]Freedombase cognitive data management technology eliminates effort
  • [enter] pause[enter] pause[enter]Freedombase is Cognitive Data Management[enter][enter]The Future is Freedom
  • Thankyou for watching this Freedomsoft presentation. Watch out for our Freedombase demonstration videos showing how Freedombase eliminates most of the effort required to build, maintain, configure or modify data focussed solutionsLong pause... About 30+ seconds

    • 1. How to eliminate most of the effort required to build, maintain, configure or modify data focussed solutions
      cognitive data management
      A Presentation
    • 2. A computer isn’t very smart
A computer cannot work anything out for itself
A programmer must tell it exactly what to do
      In intimate, precise, painstaking detail
And if you get any part of that wrong they don’t work as required
However, once we have told a computer what to do correctly, it can do it over and over millions of times and get it right every time.
    • 3. But people are smart
A person can work things out for themself
A person can take a vague idea and work out the rest without needing a program to be written
Even if a person makes a mistake they can realise their error and find a way to fix it
However, people aren’t very good at repetitive stuff.
      We change things
      We lose interest
      We make mistakes, and
      We forget things
A person CANNOT do something over and over millions of times and get it right every time.
People are, in a sense, unreliable (at least when it comes to doing repetitive stuff.)
    • 4. The best of both worlds
      The problem is:
We don’t want to tell the computer everything in intimate, precise, painstaking detail
We want computers to do the creative ‘work-it-out’ stuff like a person
We want computers to do the repetitive stuff like a computer
So while we want to give computers SOME of the abilities that people have, we do not want to give them all of the traits that people have
In order to make computers smarter, we have to reproduce at least some aspects of how the human mind works, working inside a computer...
    • 5. Spread of Activation
A core theory from Cognitive Psychology
All ideas and memories are linked either strongly or weakly
Spread of Activation is the process the mind follows when searching for something
      Cafe
      Lunch
      Lasagne
      Mum
      Coffee
      Beer
      Sleep
      Pillow
    • 6. Activating ideas and memories
In simple terms, when given a starting idea...
The mind ‘activates’ all the ideas that are linked to that idea
Then it activates all the ideas that are linked to those ideas
And then it activates all the ideas that are linked to those ideas
And so on until it finds what it needs
This way the mind searches through lots of ideas and memories and comes up with the most relevant ones
      Cafe
      Lunch
      Lasagne
      Mum
      Coffee
      Beer
      Sleep
      Pillow
    • 7. Managing ideas and memories
Spread of Activation enables people to:
automatically store, link, update and retrieve our ideas and memories without considering where they are stored or how they are linked
study and learn how something fits together
understand rules and how to apply them
update all related memories if something changes
work with multiple sources of information and understand how they fit together
      Spread of Activation ‘self-programs’
Given a set of rules, morals and prior learning ourmind self programs and updates
Freedombase is a software implementation of the Spread of Activation theory
    • 8. Freedombase Spread of Activation
Embraces the ‘good’ aspects of the mind
Automatically storing and finding related ‘ideas’ and memories
Self learning but in a predictable manner
Without the bad aspects of human intelligence
      Unpredictable and unreliable
Freedombase is applied in, or over the top of, databases
    • 9. Cognitive Data Management
Spread of Activation enables Freedombase to:
automatically store, link, update and retrieve data without considering where the data is stored or how it is linked
study existing databases and learn the data structures and how the data is related
understand rules and how to apply them
update all related data if something changes
work with multiple data sources and understand how they fit together
      Freedombase ‘self-programs’
Given a set of business rules Freedombase effectively self-programs and updates without needing any code to be written
Freedombase manages the data in databases using the same cognitive process we use to manage our ideas and memories
    • 10. Benefits of Freedombase
      Freedombase Cognitive Data Management technology:
Build and maintain complex web-enabled, data-focussed applications with little to no coding required
Learn disparate data sources, across any number of disparate databases, and configure data aggregation and business intelligence tools massively reducing both analysis and coding effort
Virtually eliminate data integrity issues – Freedombase knows if the data is invalid and prevents human errors entering the system
      Easy and fast to learn
Freedombase requires similar skills to building a spreadsheet
Freedombase eliminates most of the effort required to build, maintain, configure or modify data focussed solutions
