1.Try to find logical connection
between two words, or even
better more…
2. Explain the logical connection in a note/sentence
form. Here is your point. Go as further as you feel it is
sufficient.
7. The Abominable Snowman
By deciding on a purpose
you have organized your
facts even more. By deciding
to convince your readers
that the Abominable
Snowman is a myth, you
automatically rule out
describing the Himalayan
mountains where the
Abominable is said to leave.
8. ELIMINATE UNRELATED FACT NOTES
During your research you probably collected
some facts that you do not need. Although
you might be tempted to use all facts that you
have, you should remove those that do not fit
your topic..
9. Look at the five fact notes that follow. One of them is
not related to the others.
-Animals in the four major U.S. buffalo helrds-
50,000.000-1865
-Native Americans-vanished from Great Plains-
1850s
-Expanding railroads caused buffalo hunting-
1867
-Experts guess approximately 6,500,000 buffalo
killed in Great Plains-1871-1874
-By 1880 buffalo hard to find
10. Exercise: In each of the following group of words, four are closely related in some way.

12. Ways to organize facts
CHRONOLOGICAL ORDER = Arrange facts or details in the order in which they took
place (new stories and histories
ORDER OF IMPORTANCE = Arrange facts either from least important to most
important or vice versa. (small to large, usual to unusual
good to best, bad to worst, and similar)
STEPS IN A PROCESS = When you give directions or tell how an experiment is
done, you arrange your facts according to the steps in
the process. You keep the steps in exactly the right order
- one after the other.
13. Kinds of supporting facts
(Plan example: paragraph outline about dolls)
MAIN IDEA Dolls have not always been toys.
FACT NOTES
1. Witch doctors used ‘magic’ dolls for bringing rain, winning wars
2. Egyptian paddle dolls buried with important people to be friends in
spirit world; decorated with paint and beads
3. Dolls as saints in church plays
4. Before fashion magazines, sent from France all over the world
The order in this plan is chronological. Order of importance also could
have been used.

smell, taste and feel)
