2. Why i chooses garbage
problem as my main topic ?
Until 2015, garbage problem still a big problem in my country, Indonesia.
This photo is represent current situation of public trash bin in my city, Bandung. Government already
facilitate split trash bin into two section, Organic and Inorganic. But as you can see, most of people
still put Organic trash into Inorganic section, and vice versa.
So, what is the problem ?
3. If government can’t control
this behaviour, so why don’t
we start from ourself ?
My hypothesis is people still don’t care about splitting their trash because they aren’t used to do
recycle in home. From my observation, i rarely find out home that use a good recycle system, they still
combine all garbage in one trashbin. When i ask him why they don’t do split they trash, mostly says
because they still can’t find a useful tool to do recycle and split their trash.
So ?
5. This is my brainstorming result and
some insight
6. from previous brainstorming, i found that :
1. Each room have their different kind of trash, for example ; in office room
mostly the garbage are paper and plastic.
2. Found insight from Japanese flyer about How to Disposal Garbage. This
flyer inform us about the trash schedule, for example on Monday you can
only throw paper trash, etc. Unfortunately, in Indonesia this system still not
implemented yet.
3. Also from this flyer i learn about the kind of household trash.
4. A lot scavenger in Indonesia. They usually come to home trashbin (in front
of house) and public trashbin to search plastic, paper, or cardboard.
Because the trash mostly still combine in one container, so they must
search and spill out, making mess. That why we must split the garbage, to
make recycle working and help scavenger for collect things.
7. IDEA
1. Stinky proof trashbin (make people don’t fell nasty)
2. Nice visual trash bin (change perspective that trash bin
is a nasty things)
3. Tetris Inspired trashbin (to reveal inside of trash, which
is full or not)
4. Trash splitting with fan magnet
5. Modular trashbin that can follow the type of trash (the
chosen one)
8. First
Prototyping
The trash bin with rack system. In
the front user can change the the
hole in rack, and can dispose the
trash by opening the door of rack
and pull the tray.
From this idea, i figured out that if
make trash store horizontally, the
space will not effective. User still
have to arrange it to fill effectively,
and because this is trash so rarely
people want to touch because stink
and disgusting. If we make vertical
one, it can more effective because
the gravity that make the trash fill
out the bottom first.
Thats why for second prototyping i’ll
make the vertical one.
9. Second
Prototyping
Different with the first one, i use plastic as
container to make easier to disposable.
Basicly this trash bin contain 3
detachable part : the main body, splitter,
and plastic bag.
Main body part is for make the trash bin
can stand still with U Shape. In this
prototype i make the body that can fit 2
splitter. For next iteration, i’ll put more
length that can hold more than 2 splitter
and cover the front part to unreveal the
plastic bag.
Splitter is for categorizing trash. Each
splitter have different hole, for example
circle for bottle, the strip for paper, etc. In
the bottom of splitter there some hook for
hang plastic bag. For the next
prototyping, i will add color to easy
recognizable and more shape.
Plastic bag use for container for the trash.
10. Storyboard
By using new
recycle system
that easily
applied in home
Train people to split their trash
Also can help scavenger for
collecting things
Make a good recycle system !
