Mangalgiri is a town in Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh. The town houses a temple dedicated to Lord Narasimha. As per the legend, devotees must buy a sari woven by the local weavers, after completing their prayers and visiting the temple. The tradition is followed by devotees to this day, and perhaps originated with a view to drive the local economy where over 50% of the population are weavers from the Padmashali community. This industry is over 500 years old.
