2. 2. 1. “Smartphone” (still) a Must have item!
Yep, smart phones were getting stronger in 2010; Blackberry, Android, IPhone are all the must have items. Although for youth, they don’t actually use the entire sophisticated feature in smart phone. Youth use it as their fashion statement, their “Status Phone”.
While for their daily phone conversation, they have the 2nd phone, the CDMA, because it’s way cheaper. Besides, the chat services in smart phone allow youth to text as much as they needed, they love to chat or text, especially with BBM service.
3. 3. 2. Check in here and there with “Foursquare”
Suddenly became a mayor or get a badge seems important nowadays. You can become a mayor in school, even in your own home.
That’s Foursquare!
According to Wikipedia, Foursquare is a web and mobile application that allows registered users to connect with friends and update their location. Points are awarded for "checking in" at venues.
Users can choose to have their check-ins posted on their accounts on Twitter, Facebook or both. Users can also earn badges by checking in at locations with certain tags, for check-in frequency or for other patterns such as time of check-in.
4. 4. 3. Get trendy with “Fashion Blog”
Fashion bloggers are bloggers who talk about fashion and fashion only. They mostly talk about fashion news, newest ads, product launching, items reviews, runway show, models gossip and street fashion trends.
The reason why fashion blogs are popular because they are more approachable than fashion brands ads. Blog readers can always respond to the blog’s content with comments and they can always ask questions to bloggers.
The phenomenon of fashion and lifestyle blogger also supported by magazines that keep putting young bloggers and online shops in their articles and in return, it creates buzz among the people
5. 5. 4. No.1 wish list present (for Birthday to Christmas): “IPad”
Who doesn’t want an IPad? This Steve Jobs’s masterpiece is everyone’s favorite thing. On Twitter, many people put an IPad as their wish list.
The iPad combines an iPhone's portability with the power and usability of a laptop. It's got the best of both worlds. It is light and thin, yet it's got a screen large enough to be user-friendly.
There is some cool stuff that you can do with your IPad like reading an e-book, subscribe a digital magazine, playing hockey or even having a digital pet :)
6. 6. 5. Let’s hangout in “711”
7-Eleven (711) is part of an international chain of convenience stores, operating under Seven-Eleven Japan Co. Ltd, which in turn is owned by Seven & I Holdings Co. of Japan.
In Jakarta, 711 always found a perfect spot; Kemang, Menteng, Tebet, Senayan, Kuningan, and many others.
And why it’s so popular?
This 24-hour store combines the ‘funky’ food and beverage and the comfortable area to hangout. The 'funky' food I’m talking about is the Slurpee and Big Bite hotdog. You’re allowed to mix your colorful slurpee or you can add various kinds of toppings in your hot dog. 711 is always packed with youth, especially on Saturday Night. It creates a high social currency.
7. 7. 6. “Justin Bieber” epidemic
How did Justin Bieber get famous?
Bieber was discovered in 2008 by Scooter Braun, who happened to come across Bieber's videos on YouTube.
And why he’s so popular?
Most of the girls think that Justin Bieber is cute and young and talented, as simple as that. But the thing is this ‘girl power’ called Belibers make Justin Bieber stays in Twitter Trending Topic for months!
8. 8. 7. Get famous with Youtube: “Sinjo” Phenomenon
Up until now, the video of Sinta and Jojo, KeongRacunalmost reached 6 million viewers. Sinta and Jojo were only an ordinary girls who happen to lip-sync the KeongRacung song, with a funny and cute style. Then they uploaded their video on youtube.
9. 9. 8. “Fixie”-Demic
Go to Sudirman area on car free day, there you can find different kinds of Fixie Bike.
As in our previous youth news, Fixie is a two-wheel bike with pedals, but not like it used to be. It's mostly seen in a velodrome race, it's a bicycle minus the break, added with a fixie gear in the rear wheel.
It's a fixie!
Somehow this new trend emerge from the youth subculture in Jakarta in Bandung. A form a protest against the bad air quality, the traffic, and the urban complexity. It regress people into their childhood excitement.
10. 10. 9. Musical Rules: from “Glee” to “Onrop”
Musical era is back! We’re not talking about the “Sound of Music” or “Phantom of the Opera” Musical. We’re talking about Glee and Onrop!Glee is a musical comedy-drama television series. The series features numerous song covers sung onscreen by the characters.
The show's musical performances have been a commercial success, with over thirteen million copies of Glee cast single releases purchased digitally, and over five million albums purchased worldwide. In 2009, the Glee cast had 25 singles chart on the Billboard Hot 100.
While Onrop is an Indonesian comedy musical stage play directed by Joko Anwar, a young Indonesian director who has received many awards in international film festivals.
This is one of the plays, ups no scratch that, it’s the only one Indonesian musical play, which is successfully buzzed with twitter. Onrop combines such a deep character, witty songs and amazing stage set. The audience praised it. They tweet about it, and promote it voluntarily.
11. 11. 10. The top-rated movies: “Inception, Social Network and Harry Potter 7”
Inception, Social Network and Harry Potter 7 are the coolest movies in 2010.
Nolan’s masterpiece, Inception left many unanswered questions and speculations in audience’s mind. It’s a brilliant and genius movie!
The Social Network is a movie about the journey of Mark Zuckerberg, the creator of facebook. What’s interesting is the life of Mark; he’s a genius Harvard student, with bad social relationship with his friends and girlfriend. In this movie, a broken-heart Zuckerberg create a facebook. Social Network is really an engaging film, while mainly revolving around the invention of Facebook.
And for the Harry Potter 7, I can’t say much on this. Harry Potter never fails me. But this 7th sequel considered as the best film of the franchise and the best interpretation of the novel.
12. 12. 11. The Nation’s Pride: “Timnas Indonesia”
Still fresh on our mind the final game of Timnas Indonesia vs Malaysia last December in Suzuki AFF Cup. It was indeed an amazing game performed by Timnas.
As we could see in Twitter Trending Topic List, it was dominated by Indonesian users. They were hashtags like #GarudaFightsBack #LoveIndonesia #thankyouriedl #keepbachdimand many more. It showed that this Timnas is the nation’s pride; old and young, boys and girls.., Indonesian were proud of them.
