2. GEOGRAPHY
The city of Palembang is the capital of the province of South
Sumatra. Palembang is the second largest city in Sumatra after
Medan. The city of Palembang has an area of 358.55 km²
inhabited by 1,573,898 inhabitants (2018) with a population
density of 4,800 per km². It is predicted that in the next 2030 this
city will be inhabited by 2.5 million people. Development of LRT
(elevated trains), and plans to build GP motor circuits in the
Jakabaring area and F1 circuit in the Tanjung Api-Api area, is the
latest Palembang City development project.
3. HISTORY
Palembang was once the capital of the largest Buddhist maritime
kingdom in Southeast Asia, the Kingdom of Srivijaya, which
dominated the Archipelago and the Malay Peninsula in the 9th
century also made this city known as the "Earth of Srivijaya".
This is evidenced by the continuation of the songket artistry.
Palembang is also one of the oldest cities. It was once the capital
city of Srivijaya , a powerful Buddhist kingdom that ruled many
parts of the western Indonesian Archipelago and controlled
many maritime trade routes.

The percentage of the religion of
the population of Palembang is
91.93% Islam, Buddha 3.46%,
Protestant Christian 2.87%, Catholic
1.65%, Hinduism 0.08% and
Confucianism 0.01%. The majority
religion in Palembang is Islam. In its
historical record, Palembang once
implemented written laws based on
Islamic Shari'a, In addition there are
also Catholics, Protestants, Hindus,
Buddhists and Confucians.
5. LANGUAGE
The language used by the everyday
people of Palembang is the
everyday Palembang language that
is spoken by almost all of its
people. Palembang language is a
local dialect of Malay which is also
a lingua franca or unifying language
of the province of South Sumatra.
Speakers of the Palembang
language are estimated to have 3.1
million inhabitants spread across
Palembang and the nearby
provinces.
6. PEMPEK
Pempek is arguably the
Palembang culinary icon. Pempek
is made from finely ground fish
meat and then mixed with starch.
Usually people eat pempek with
cuko. Cuko is a brownish black
sauce made from water, brown
sugar, cayenne pepper, garlic and
salt. Cuko has a spicy sensation
that will add pleasure to pempek.
7. AMPERA BRIDGE
Ampera Bridge (Mandate of
people's suffering) is a bridge
in Palembang City, South
Sumatra Province, Indonesia.
The Ampera Bridge, which has
become the main landmark of
the city, is located in the
middle of the city of
Palembang, connecting the
Seberang Ulu and Seberang Ilir
areas which are separated by
the Musi River.
8. LAKE RANAU
Lake Ranau was formed from
volcanic eruptions of the
volcano around 55,000 years
ago. The weather is fresh and

9. LEMATANG INDAH WATERFALL
This tourist attraction is very
easy to reach, because it is
located on the roadside of
Pagar Alam City. When you
arrive, there will be a ladder
that can be used to go up and
down the waterfall. With a
height of 40 meters, Lematang
Indah Waterfall presents a cool
and cool atmosphere.
10. PARK OF SRIVIJAYA
Archaeological Park of Sriwijaya
Kingdom is on the edge of the
Musi River. This park is believed to

parks during the reign of the
Srivijaya Kingdom. In addition to
