Two Essays One Judge
Have you ever imagined the word without writing? Well, it is
impossible, in other words, the life will be more difficult.
Without writing you cannot save information, read history,
write your feelings in essay or the most important we cannot
chat. Chatting has become a major part of life routine, there are
many applications that make you chat with other people like
What's App, Line or We Chat. The users of these applications
are using a curtailment for many words, for example U means
you, R means are, and UR means your. That going to led the
writing to dark way because most of the users are from the new
generation, wish means the future is going to control by our
children. However, writing an essay is totally different than
chatting or writing a letter. Nowadays, almost of the students
are writing essays as homework, and it is different from person
to another. Each person has his own style, thoughts and word to
express his/her idea in essay. When comparing those two essays
"Two Years Are Better Than Four" written by Addison, Liz and
"The New Liberal Arts" J.Ungar, Sanford. The first essay is
better than the second because it is supported well, shorter and
organized. The author had written a nice essay wish it was
wrote by following the essay steps.
Writing an essay is not that hard, almost everybody can do it.
But the essay should be in particular way that makes it easier to
the reader. For writing a good essay that makes the people like
it you can use follow the essay's steps. According to Samuels,
the first step to write an essay is outline, put all the information
in order, skip the introduction and start with the first body
paragraph, the first thesis statement with the first body
paragraph, support your thoughts, keep doing this format until
you reach the conclusion. The most important step is supporting
2. your ideas, wish like the Liz's essay has. The good support in
the essay is "I read an article in the New York times describing
a 'collage application essay…," Liz (213,) the author Liz
Addison, juggle chooses this quote because it fits in the right
place and that shows that what ability the writer has. On the
other hand, Ungar had supported his ideas, but his support took
a whole paragraph. Even with this whole paragraph of support,
he could not explain it well and clear.
Writing an essay with a quotation that is hard to explain can
take a lot of space and words. Many words with on meaning is
west of time, a large number of pages is not necessary prove to
a good essay. The essay that might reach many pages is not
necessary a good essay, some people could write many pages,
but it has a lot of mistakes and with no goal that they want to
talk about. The other people can write a nice essay and perfect,
with fewer pages. The Arabic people may think differently, they
have proverb that says "The best speech what is less and make
sense," they mean that the less is better considering the entire
required thing that the author should include. They also, like to
reach the point directly to make it easier and less word, Liz did
two pages back and forth. She was perfect in her essay; she all
the information that she can mention to make the reader
interested more about her ideas. Ungar did around five pages.
Lis has less pages and good information comparing with Ungar's
essay wish have about five pages.
Organizing an essay is very important to make the essay better.
Organizing an essay is helpful and easier for the reader to
follow the author. Meanwhile, the author can control them to
any way that he wants them to reach or to follow. Since he
knows how he can organize his own essay, he can assume where
the readers are heading. Ungar won in this point, his essay was
much organized than Liz's essay. He has a good skill
organization that made the audience hooked. He used his
organization skill to make the readers interested and
enthusiastic fort what coming next. Ungar was very clear, he
explained the misperception. Without reading the essay you can
3. say that this essay is organize because for each paragraph has
the number of the misperception. Also, it was easy to recognize
those misunderstandings because it is bold and it was numbered.
He explained the seventh misperception. Liz's was not
organized comparing to Ungar's essay, Ungar was like showing
off his organizing skill.
In conclusion, writing an essay is very important. Writing an
academic essay is not that easy. The writer should take it
seriously and follow the steps that can help him/her to write a
perfect essay. Depending on these details above we can say or
judge that the Liz's essay wins this competition. Since the Liz's
essay explained all the information that she wanted, and with
supporting sentences, her essay was better. Ungar essay looks
organized and harmonic but his support and many pages did not
help him. However, those days, most of the students are writing
many pages because it is required, meanwhile, they are not
felling that they are comfortably with writing. They cannot
write comfortably if they must do some papers that force them
to write. They will not understand the real meaning of writing.
However, the essay is very important to learn, but it should
teach the real meaning if an essay before the essay itself. On the
other hand, the whole world needs to learn and educate to
become professional writers and help the people who do not
learn that.

Parents and Children
"I call her a lot, saying, 'Mom, how do I do this?' "Said
Scott, 18. "Now that we have our own responsibilities, we
appreciate their involvement more." Make our children
depending on their self, will help them in their life. Having a
responsibility is not something easy, if the child used to handle
a heavy responsibility, he/she would get confidence in his/her
life. Al the parents love their children and take care of them,
but some of the parents are doing that more than the normal
care. They think that it helps their children and the child cannot
do his/her job by their selves. Excessive eagerness of parents
may affect their children. Some of the parents are focusing on
their children more than what the child need or can handle.
Taking care of the child will affect him/her in the bad way. In
the child life, he/she will face several problems. Although the
parents want to take care of their children to success, but the
child will depend on their parents all the time. Secondly, it is
hard for the child to find friends. Third, even is short term
thinking. However, reasonable care is how all the parents
should treat their children to success in their life.
These days everything has come different like the culture,
technology and transportation. The people came more focusing
on education and jobs to get paid well and live better life. Most
of us want that money and great job, but we must also make our
children learn about our culture. Long time ago, the people were
not interested on jobs because they do not have many jobs
available. Most of them were farming or making breads.
However, in the past especially in my country (Saudi Arabia)
the people were sending their children to Bedouin tribes to learn
hunting, speak classical Arabic, rid hours and other thing like
make fire or how to cook. There were a group of people who
drive their children from city to city approximately every 6
months. Since they arrive there, they will start doing everything
by their self. When they came back to their family, their parents
8. were proud of them. These children had learned by them self
and they became more depending on their selves. Make the
children make their own path to get what they want.
Friendship is something important in this life. The friends
have a lot of benefits like keep your secrets and help you when
you are in trouble. Four Years ago, in Saudi Arabia my friend
Mohammed had a car accident, and he were injured, fortunately
I was there. His injury was double fracture in the bone, he could
not walk. I took him right the way to hospital; he slept there
around three days. After he got surgery, he could not walk for
three and half months. His older brother was busy in his job, his
father and mother are old and they cannot help him, he has
nobody except me. So, he asked me to pick him up every day to
school, I said sure and I took care of him for around four
months. I used to carry his backpack when we were heading the
class, he had been using crutches so that he could not carry his
bag back. However, far from showing off and talk about myself,
but a simple of one of many benefits that you can get from a
friends. With helicopter parents is hard to build a friendship, it
is kind of weird and awkward. Also, the parent has different
way to think, so sometimes they will not accept what their child
want or like to be a friend with. However, the way that the
parents act could make the child feels no comfortable for his
personality. The parents should notice that some of the children
shy when their parents kiss them in front of their friends, and
some parents do not care about if his child shy or not, they just
want to show their expression.
For success in this life surly you must think about your future.
When I said think, it is different than worry, because worries
may drag you down and make you confused. However, thinking
about the future and having time to organize your thoughts can
give you a good result. Yet, there are two ways for thinking the
first one is long term thinking and the second is short term.
Generally the long term is to plan for all life and that kind of
thinking makes you schedule your time and goals to what you
have decided. The other side is short term and it is kind of
9. thinking that for a period of time, like focusing on college or
until their children got job. In other word, have their parents
thought what is going to happen after they leave their children
to choose their path? Also, can they imagine how can they
handle it after they leave their children? Since we all know if
you are concerned with something for long time it is hard to just
trend around and leave it.
Even though there are people could say that the helicopter has
many benefits. For example, experience, it shows the good
relation between the family and the student will feel more
comfortable, their parents will support their children all the
time, but the consequence is very. Well, Elijah Scott, a Cal
State L.A. freshman from Monterey, Calif., said he finds
himself wanting his mother's input more now that he is away
from home and facing bigger decisions. How would he make
these decisions without his mom? Having someone stand by you
all the time is good for support or advice you. What is coming
after that is the important thing that we should think about to
safe our children in the future.
In conclusion, all the parents should take care of their children
in a reasonable way. We all know that the parents have
experience and some of them maybe helicopter parent not
voluntarily, but they should not force their children to study any
major the parents want. The parent should advice their child and
gives him what they really want. The friendship also has many
significant effects well in the child. In another word, the friend
is not doing that to help your child, it is the friendship, and
friends help each other. Also, some parents should have a
special courses to learn how advice their children to the good
path. There are people how are educated to teach how to guide
you child to the way that you want him to take.

13. Additional Comments:
Adapted from “College Freshman Okay with Parental
Watchdogs, Survey Finds” Larry Gordon and Victoria Kim (Los
Angeles Times, 1/24/2008)
Campus administrators call them "helicopter parents" -- high-
maintenance mothers and fathers who seem to hover over their
children's every step toward a college degree.
To faculty and staff, such parents are often viewed as a buzzing
annoyance. Yet a surprising number of first-year college
students are now reporting that they're quite OK with their
parents' academic doting.
According to a UCLA survey released today, a whopping 84%
of college freshmen nationwide reported that Mom and Dad
showed the right amount of involvement in the decision to go to
college. Of those, 80.5% said they were fine with the amount of
input their parents offered in choosing a school.
14. "What we might have expected to see, given all the media
attention about the helicopter parents, is that maybe a bunch of
students would be saying there's too much parental
involvement," said John Pryor, director of the annual freshman
survey by UCLA's Higher Education Research Institute.
Instead, only about 10% complained that their parents'
involvement in the application process was over the top.
The survey's findings are contrasted sharply by the anecdotes of
college administrators who, Pryor said, bemoan "the mother
who calls up the chief of security to say that it's cold out and
can you make sure Susie is wearing her sweater."
Academics complain that baby boomers -- known for
independence during their own teen years -- keep their own
children on fairly short leashes. Though they might have called
home once a week from a dormitory pay phone in their college
days, helicoptering boomers are keeping close tabs on their
progeny via e-mail and cellphones.
Instead of inspiring resentment, many of the freshmen
interviewed on local campuses Wednesday said they welcomed
their folks' frequent checking in.
USC freshman Charles Hu of San Jose said his parents insisted
on talking via web-cam with him twice a week at the beginning
of the school year, asking about his grades and nudging him
toward a major in business.
"I think it's fine; it's not too bad. I can get away with not telling
them stuff," said Hu, 18, adding that his parents are less
protective than when he was in his teens.
Elijah Scott, a Cal State L.A. freshman from Monterey, Calif.,
15. said he finds himself wanting his mother's input more now that
he is away from home and facing bigger decisions.
"I call her a lot, saying, 'Mom, how do I do this?' " Said Scott,
18. "Now that we have our own responsibilities, we appreciate
their involvement more."
Peace between generations extends to choosing college courses
and activities.
Nearly three-quarters of the 272,036 freshmen at 356 four-year
colleges and universities surveyed said their parents had the
right amount of involvement in those areas, while fewer than a
quarter said too little. Only 3.4% said their folks overly
intruded on class selection.
