2. Once you click the “join now” button you have
agreed to the terms set by LinkedIn.
This means you’ve then enter into a “legally
binding agreement”
Outlined in LinkedIn’s
User agreement.

3. As per the Privacy Policy - LinkedIn
then takes ownership of your:
Name
Headline
Current company
Current title
Location
And uses it for recruiting, marketing
and sales solutions.

4. Under the watchful eye of LinkedIn
(i.e surveillance)
You’re every move is monitored.

5. That includes activity both on and off the LinkedIn
site.

6. Under the surveillance of
LinkedIn they:
Log files, your IP addresses, and
information about your computer
& use Cookie technologies to
track your behavior
& Store information
(LinkedIn Privacy Policy).

7. This includes your:
• Name
• Email
• Mobile number / phone number
• Postcode
• Job title
• Company
• Credit card details

8. LinkedIn do this because they say:
“Your trust is our top priority”

9. By using the LinkedIn service
you’re agreeing to your information
and content being used under a
Non-Exclusive License to:
- Copy
- Modify
- Distribute
- Publish
- Process
“Without consent, notice or
compensation to you or others.”
(LinkedIn User Agreement).

10. It’s your freedom to express.
But be aware Linkedin is also
scanning to check content in your
inmails to:
Store
Access
Disclose
And use information in your
contacts
(Linkedin Privacy Policy).

11. Under LinkedIn’s Privacy
Policy you agree to:
Having your IP address
tracked / browser / mobile
device including operating
system / location data
monitored and collected.

12. If you click on an add LinkedIn track it.

13. The agreement is framed around “reputation
systems standing to expand beyond evaluating
people’s behavior in discrete transactions or
making recommendations on products or content,
into rating people more generally (Zittrain, 2008).”

Collectively they make up the user and privacy
policies.

15. Once you’ve taken in all that
information, don’t forget to turnoff
sharing with third parties.
It’s pre-configured, so you'll have
to make the adjustment, otherwise
you’re agreeing to sharing
information with LinkedIn’s third
parties.

16. It’s not really a personal service, because it’s all about
your personal data.
This is commoditised as a trading mechanism based on
our location and interests.
These technologies enable us as individuals to be
targeted by “marketing companies, or political interest
groups, or potential employees.”
We are willing participants in providing data for
statistical gathering, so others can “make decisions
about you, your employability and your work ethic.
(Privacy and Social Networks, 2007).

17. Linkedin State their “fundamental
philosophy is “members first.”
That value powers all of the
decisions we make, including your
information.”
It’s your decision to post your
information, but the final decision
about how your information is
used and sold is up to LinkedIn.
