1. Overmuch Care
I. Overmuch Care About earthly things, forbidden
Matt 6:25 Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for
your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet
for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more
than meat, and the body than raiment?
Luke 12:22 And he said unto his disciples, Therefore I say
unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat;
neither for the body, what ye shall put on.
Luke 12:29 And seek not ye what ye shall eat, or what ye
shall drink, neither be ye of doubtful mind.
John 6:27 Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but
for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which
the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the
Father sealed.
II. God's providential goodness should keep us from
Overmuch Care

2. Matt 6:26 Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not,
neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your
heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better
than they?
Matt 6:28 And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider
the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither
do they spin:
Matt 6:30 Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the
field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven,
shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?
Luke 22:35 And he said unto them, When I sent you
without purse, and scrip, and shoes, lacked ye any thing?
And they said, Nothing.
III. God's promises should keep us from Overmuch
Care
Heb 13:5 Let your conversation be without covetousness;
and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath
said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.

3. IV. Trust in God should free us from Overmuch Care
Jer 17:7 Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD, and
whose hope the LORD is.
Jer 17:8 For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters,
and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not
see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and
shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall
cease from yielding fruit.
Dan 3:16 Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, answered
and said to the king, O Nebuchadnezzar, we are not
careful to answer thee in this matter.
V. Overmuch Care Should be cast on God
Ps 37:5 Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him;
and he shall bring it to pass.
Ps 55:22 Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall
sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be
moved.

4. Prov 16:3 Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thy
thoughts shall be established.
1Pet 5:7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for
you.
VI. Overmuch Care An obstruction to the Gospel
Matt 13:22 He also that received seed among the thorns
is he that heareth the word; and the care of this world, and
the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he
becometh unfruitful.
Luke 8:14 And that which fell among thorns are they,
which, when they have heard, go forth, and are choked
with cares and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring
no fruit to perfection.
Luke 14:18-20 18 And they all with one consent began
to make excuse. The first said unto him, I have bought a
piece of ground, and I must needs go and see it: I pray
thee have me excused. 19 And another said, I have bought
five yoke of oxen, and I go to prove them: I pray thee have
me excused. 20 And another said, I have married a wife,
and therefore I cannot come.

5. VII. Be without Overmuch Care
1Cor 7:32 But I would have you without carefulness. He
that is unmarried careth for the things that belong to the
Lord, how he may please the Lord:
Phil 4:6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by
prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your
requests be made known unto God.
VIII.Overmuch Care Unbecoming in saints
2Tim 2:4 No man that warreth entangleth himself with the
affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen
him to be a soldier.
IX. Uselessness of Overmuch Care
Matt 6:27 Which of you by taking thought can add one
cubit unto his stature?
Luke 12:25 And which of you with taking thought can add
to his stature one cubit?

least, why take ye thought for the rest?
X. Vanity of Overmuch Care
Ps 39:6 Surely every man walketh in a vain shew: surely
they are disquieted in vain: he heapeth up riches, and
knoweth not who shall gather them.
Eccl 4:8 There is one alone, and there is not a second; yea,
he hath neither child nor brother: yet is there no end of all
his labour; neither is his eye satisfied with riches; neither
saith he, For whom do I labour, and bereave my soul of
good? This is also vanity, yea, it is a sore travail.
XI. Warning against Overmuch Care
Luke 21:34 And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time
your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and
drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come
upon you unawares.

7. XII. Overmuch Care Sent as a punishment to the
wicked
Ezek 4:16 Moreover he said unto me, Son of man, behold,
I will break the staff of bread in Jerusalem: and they shall
eat bread by weight, and with care; and they shall drink
water by measure, and with astonishment:
Ezek 12:19 And say unto the people of the land, Thus
saith the Lord GOD of the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and of
the land of Israel; They shall eat their bread with
carefulness, and drink their water with astonishment, that
her land may be desolate from all that is therein, because
of the violence of all them that dwell therein.
