Continental drift debate: Bible evidence for land mass separation
1. I know this is by no means an essential of scripture. I do differ from Dr. Ruckman on the idea of the
continental drift; here are my thoughts on the subject.
The Ruckman Reference Bible; Second Edition; Page 23; Note #6
[Gen.] “(10:25) It has been commonly misinterpreted as proving that ‘continental drifts’ tore apart a
land mass that was once one unit, and that North, Central, and South America were once tied to the
European and African coast and drifted across the Atlantic Ocean. Of course the topography on the floor
of the Atlantic Ocean shows the commentators because of their obsession with mixing the races. The
division in the passage is God dividing the people on the earth in Gen. 11:8. This interpretation is the
correct, Biblical interpretation; see Deut. 32:8-9, where you are told that God divided the nations.
Any fool can see that in Chapter 11:1, ‘the whole earth’ doesn’t refer to the land surface at all. ‘The
whole earth’ refers to the population on the earth. ‘All the earth’ has nothing to do with any ground
surface any more than 10:25 does.”
Continental drift
I think this is actually the continental drift for several reasons:
Gen 1:9-10 …let the dry land appear… And God called the dry land Earth
Deut 32:8 When the most High divided to the nations their inheritance, when he separated the sons of
Adam, he set the bounds of the people according to the number of the children of Israel.
Nations are people that is true however the point is the “bounds” that restrain these groups. The
inheritance of the nations is property not a language.
Acts 17:26-27 And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the
earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation;
27 That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far
from every one of us:
Clearly “nations of men” and “face of the earth” are not the same. Men live on the face of the
earth. Here we learn the “bounds” that separate men has to do with their “habitation” (as in the
place the inhabit.
This could help explain how animals and humanity were able to migrate to different continents.
The way you know this is the "continental drift" and not just a change of languages (Gen 11:1) is the use
of the word "earth" up to this point the word as always had to do with the ground, not people. Gen

In Gen 11:1 notice the wording.
Gen 11:1 And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech. (Gen 11:6)
2. The earth(ground) was OF one language and OF one speech.
Here is what God did NOT SAY:
…the whole earth was one language…
The word “OF” changes the object from the earth (ground) to the “people” who inhabit the
ground.
Gen 11:6 And the LORD said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they
begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do.
