1. MARRYING UP
“Wives are so irritating. But without them, who would we blame
for misplacing our tools?”
“We were married for better or worse. I couldn’t have done
better and she couldn’t have done worse.”
“Apparently, O.J. Simpson is getting remarried
He decided to take another stab at it.”

2. Text: 2Cor 11:2
2For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have
espoused you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste
virgin to Christ.
I. In Christ
Rom 8:1 in Christ Jesus no condemnation
1Cor 1:2 you are sanctified in Christ Jesus
1Cor 4:15 ye have ten thousand instructors in Christ
1Cor 15:19 In this life …we have hope in Christ
2Cor 2:14 God, …always causeth us to triumph in Christ
Gal 2:4 we have liberty in Christ Jesus
Phil 2:1 we have consolation, comfort of love, fellowship of
the Spirit, and mercies, in Christ
II. Christin You- Gal 4:19
Gal 4:19
19My little children, of whom I travail in birth again until
Christ be formed in you,
3. Col 2:10-12 10 And ye are complete in him, which is
the head of all principality and power:
11 In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision
made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of
the flesh by the circumcision of Christ:
12 Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen
with him through the faith of the operation of God, who
hath raised him from the dead.
The Body of the sins of the flesh is put off; but, the
source of sin is still convenient.
Rom 8:9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if
so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man
have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.
The new creature does not live in the flesh but in the
Spirit even though he carries around the flesh.
Gal 3:13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the
law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is
every one that hangeth on a tree:
We do not hang on to the curse, However, the proof of
our pardon hangs on us- dead flesh.
2Cor 10:3 For though we walk in not BY
the flesh, we do
not war after to the will of
the flesh:
4. Our new boss makes a servant out of our old master-
the flesh.
1Cor 6:17
17But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit. “Joined”
(present tense) is, Spirit, not body; the operation of
Salvation is complete, but the recovery process is not
complete till the resurrection.
1Cor 13:9-10
9For we know in part, and we prophesy in part.
10But when that which is perfect is come, then that which
is in part shall be done away.
…that which is perfect…
Eph 4:13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith,
and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a
perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the
fulness of Christ:
…then that which is in part shall be done away…
the flesh is the incomplete part, “we SEE in part”
III. The "then" - 1Cor 13:12
1Cor 13:12
For now we see through a glass, darkly;
5. but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I
know even as also I am known.
"face to face"
Exod 33:11 And the LORD spake unto Moses face
to face, as a man speaketh unto his friend. And he
turned again into the camp: but his servant Joshua, the
son of Nun, a young man, departed not out of the
tabernacle.
Deut 34:10 And there arose not a prophet since in
Israel like unto Moses, whom the LORD knew face
to face,
2John 1:12 Having many things to write unto you, I
would not write with paper and ink: but I trust to
come unto you, and speak face to face, that our joy
may be full.
3John 1:13-14 I had many things to write, but I will
not with ink and pen write unto thee:
14 But I trust I shall shortly see thee, and we shall
speak face to face. Peace be to thee. Our friends
salute thee. Greet the friends by name.
1Cor 13:12 "THEN shall I know even as also I am
known."
the only time our knowledge is universally the same
as Christs' is when we see him face to face.
6. IV. Paul’s example- Rom 7:1-6
Rom 7:1-6
1Know ye not, brethren, (for I speak to them that know the
law,) how that the law hath dominion over a man as long as he
liveth?
“man” = human, (he goes on to talk about a woman under
this system.)
The final authority here is …“law hath dominion”.
2For the woman which hath an husband is bound by the law to
her husband so long as he liveth;
Because they are one-flesh “for 2 saith he shall be one”.
Single or married she answers to the law, but her husband
has influence on her obedience to law.
2…but if the husband be dead, she is loosed from the law of her
husband.
If the husband is dead- she is loosed from THE LAW OF
HER HUSBAND, NOT loosed from “law”, now a new
rule applies.
7. She is still under the law but has no (cloak between her and
LAW or influence to urge her obedience to the law).
John 15:22 If I had not come and spoken unto them,
they had not had sin: but now they have no cloke for
their sin.
John 12:48 He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not
my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I
have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.
Rom 8:1-2 1 There is therefore now no
condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who
walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. 2 For
the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made
me free from the law of sin and death.
3So then if, while her husband liveth, she be married to another
man, she shall be called an adulteress:
It is illegal to “serve two masters”.
but if her husband be dead, she is free from that law; so that she
is no adulteress, though she be married to another man.
She can remain single and answer to the Law on her own;
or remarry and answer to the authority of her new husband.
8. 4Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law
by the body of Christ;
“ye” the Soul, is become free, because “we are free from
the BODY of sin”.
The first marriage was to the flesh, Christ’s cross kills the
flesh- that old husband is now dead.
Col 2:14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances
that was against us, which was contrary to us, and
took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;
4…that ye should be married to another, even to him who is
raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God.
The Soul can now be remarried because the flesh is dead.
This new husband is from another country and throws out
the law book of the old country, he has a better one.
1Cor 6:17 But he that is joined unto the Lord is one
spirit.
5For when we were in the flesh, the motions of sins, which
were by the law, did work in our members to bring forth fruit
unto death.
9. When we were one flesh (unsaved soul and sinful flesh),
the law determined what was sin and required the payment
of death for the offence.
6But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead
wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit,
and not in the oldness of the letter.
The flesh is dead the soul is not held accountable for the
actions of the now dead husband. The new husband has a
rule book that goes beyond the letter of the law, he
demands the Spirit of the law. But then doesn’t ask us to
obey it, but let him obey it in us.
V. The Realityof the Picture- Eph 5:31-32
Eph 5:31-32
31 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother,
and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one
flesh.
32 This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and
the church.
Mark 10:9 What therefore God hath joined together, let not
man put asunder.
10. Rom 12:5 So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and
every one members one of another.
1Cor 15:20
20But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the
firstfruits of them that slept.
Christ’s resurrection was a First for something Christians
will experience.
1Cor 15:21
21For since by man came death, by man came also the
resurrection of the dead.
After his resurrection, Christ appeared as a man with a new
Body.
1Cor 15:23
23But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits;
afterward they that are Christ's at his coming.
Christ was the first one to do this all others will have to
wait till Christ coming for this new body.
1Cor 15:39
11. 39All flesh is not the same flesh: but there is one kind of flesh
of men, another flesh of beasts, another of fishes, and another of
birds.
Now we get a preview of what the new body will be.
1Cor 15:40
40There are also celestial bodies, and bodies terrestrial: but the
glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is
another.
Now the timing of this new flesh…
1Cor 15:42
42So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in
corruption; it is raised in incorruption:
1Cor 15:44
44It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There
is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body.
Conclusion:Rom 6:6-7
Rom 6:6-7 6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with
him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we
should not serve sin.
7 For he that is dead is freed from sin.
12. Rom 6:11 Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead
indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our
Lord.
