Faithful or Foolish
Text: Jer 5:3-4
3) O LORD, are not thine eyes upon the truth?
thou hast stricken them,
but they have not grieved;
thou hast consumed them,
but they have refused to receive correction:
they have made their faces harderthan a rock;
they have refused to return.
4) Therefore I said,
Surely these are poor;
they are foolish:
for they know not
the way of the LORD,
nor the judgment of their God.
The most extravagant expense is
ignorance.
God calls this, Foolishness.
2. 2
Hos 4:6
6) My peopleare destroyed for lack of knowledge…
Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the
creed of ignorance, and the gospel of
envy, its inherent virtue is the equal
sharing of misery.
-Winston Churchill
I. The Foolish are Ignorant of the Almighty. Jer 5:4
Jer 5:4
…they know not the way of the LORD…
Ps 14:1-2
1) The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God.
They are corrupt,they have doneabominableworks,
thereis nonethat doeth good.
3. 3
2) The LORD looked down from heaven upon the
children of men, to see if there were any that did
understand, and seek God.
Ps 50:17
17) Seeing thou hatest instruction, and castestmy words
behind thee.
Ps 50:21-22
21) These things hast thou done, and I kept silence; thou
thoughtest that I was altogether such an one as
thyself: but I will reprove thee, and set them in order
before thine eyes.
22) Now considerthis, ye that forget God, lest I tear
you in pieces, and therebe none to deliver.
1Cor 1:20
20) Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the
disputer of this world?hath not God made foolish the
wisdom of this world?
Man uses Inventions, Entertainment,
and Education to hide from God.
4. 4
Jer 23:24
24) Can any hide himselfin secret places that I shall
not see him? saith the LORD. Do not I fill heaven and
earth? saith the LORD.
John 14:6
6) Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the
life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
John 12:48
48) He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words,
hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken,
the same shall judge him in the last day.
II. The Faithful Abound in Adversity. Jer 5:1
Jer 5:1
1) Run ye to and fro through the streets of Jerusalem, and
see now, and know, and seek in the broad places thereof,
if ye can find a man, if there be any that executeth
judgment, that seeketh the truth; and I will pardon it.
5. 5
1Cor 4:1-2
1) Let a man so account of us, as of the ministers of
Christ, and stewards of the mysteries of God.
2) Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be
found faithful.
1Cor 4:11-13
11) Even unto this present hour we both hunger, and
thirst, and are naked, and are buffeted, and have no
certain dwellingplace;
12) And labour, working with our own hands: being
reviled, we bless; being persecuted,we suffer it:
13) Being defamed, we intreat: we are made as the filth
of the world, and are the offscouring of all things unto
this day.
Jas 5:11
11) Behold, we count them happy which endure. Ye have
heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the
Lord; that the Lord is very pitiful, and of tendermercy.
Rom 15:13
13) Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace
in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the
power of the Holy Ghost.
6. 6
III. The Foolish are Attracted by the Absurd. Jer 5:5
Jer 5:5
5) I will get me unto the great men, and will speak unto
them; for they have known the way of the LORD, and the
judgment of their God: but these have altogether broken
the yoke, and burst the bonds. (Jer 6:13)
1John2:15
15) Love not the world, neither the things that are in the
world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is
not in him.
Mark 4:17-19
17) And have no root in themselves, and so endure but
for a time: afterward, when affliction or persecution
ariseth for the word's sake, immediately they are
offended.
18) And these are they which are sown among thorns;
such as hear the word,
19) And the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of
riches, and the lusts of otherthings entering in, choke the
word, and it becometh unfruitful.
7. 7
Free cheese can be found in a mouse
trap.
2Pet 2:18-19
18) For when they speak great swelling words of vanity,
they allurethrough the lusts of the flesh, throughmuch
wantonness, those that were clean escaped from them
who live in error.
19) While they promise them liberty, they themselves are
the servants of corruption:for of whom a man is
overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage.
The Allure of Inventionmay Charm a man.
But only God’s Word can Change a man.
The Allure of Entertainment mayExcite a man.
But only God’s Word can Convert a man.
The Allure of higher Education may Entice a man.
But only God’s Word can Enlighten a man.
