Smart passive income 90 day
challenge | Greg's blog
Source: http://sogregory.com/90-day-challenge-my-first-blog-post-as-i-go-
passive/
Welcome to my very first blog post, I’m Greg and I have set
myself a 90 day challenge. The challenge I have set is to build
myself an online passive income in 90 days. To be honest I
have actually been planning to do this since 2002 (11 YEARS
AGO!) but I’ve just never got round to doing it. My wife says it’s
because i’m a procrastinator, I think it’s because I can’t spot an
opportunity and my dad thinks it’s because i’m a bit lazy. The
truth is, the answer is somewhere in the middle.
This challenge is particularly hard for me due to my current
personal situation, which i’ll go into in a second. It will be
fair to say that despite being pretty comfortable in a digital
environment (I’m pretty good with SEO etc etc), I actually have
no idea precisely where to begin and how to go about creating
a smart online passive income that requires minimal effort
(Is there really such a thing?). Let me take this opportunity
to explain what i really mean by ‘smart passive income’ as
this sometimes gets lost in translation due to the numerous
definitions that can be found on the internet; for me ‘smart
passive income’ refers to an automated system that can be
set and forgotten. This automated system will also be easy to
build and the success of its output easy to determine in a very
short period of time (typically 5 days or less). I’m looking for
something that will allow me to essentially fail faster. I really
don’t want to be spending all my free time building a system or
spending time waiting for an indication of success or failure. If
something’s gone wrong – I want to know now, not 3 months
later. It goes without saying that it should virtually replace my
9 to 5 income (or what was my 9 to 5 income). Does a system
like this exist? A simple online search doesn’t make answering
the question any easier.
Many moons ago
Let me give you a little back story to my life to put all this into
context; I got made redundant in 2012 and decided enough
was enough and started my first business (Offline consulting).
Its been scary all the way as everything is just so new to me
but nevertheless I enjoy my new business a lot more than I did
working 9 to 5 as an employee. I now realise how much I hated
my job; I just hated the 9 to 5 lifestyle and it isn’t because of
the money. The happiest period of my working life was when I
was working in a minimum wage job while at college. I think i
enjoyed it so much because it wasn’t regimented, it wasn’t 9 to
5. My redundancy created an opportunity and I want to grab
it with both hands.
Now let me take you further back in my life (we are going
back 15 years!), when all i did year after year was plan to run
my own business, there was a lot of planning but very little
doing every year. Was I just bored? because I always seemed
enthusiastic at the start but kinda lost interest in the middle,
and it wasn’t because i could not do it, heck – I did it for multi-
million dollar businesses I worked for but not just my own. I
guess I always found working for someone else…well easier. In
2002 when i first started looking into ‘making money online’
and despite some promising research I never committed to
doing anything. Yes I tried testing stuff but I always gave up
because I could not fail fast enough.
Fast forward 11 years
I now realise that in order for me to stop procrastinating I
needed two things; a deadline and something to lose. I have a
deadline (90 days) to start to earn a passive income of $10,000
per month (I had to be specific), and i also have something to
lose – being homeless if all this falls flat on my face. If i’m going
to fail I want it to be spectacular (Famous last words?). I want
to know once and for all if the hype of making a living online
from passive income is truly possible.
So why the urgency to do this now? Well i’m 37 years old,
married and expecting my first child. I’m not an academic
but I did go through the motions of university etc and like
many people on the planet today, I have debts too. I know
this is possible thanks to some brilliant marketers like Ed Dale
and Ryan Deiss who have in their own unique way shared
some of their interesting knowledge around online earning. Ed
actually thought me everything I know about SEO (ok maybe
not everything) but he did teach me how to make my first
dollar online (Thanks Ed). Ryan is just a genius when it comes
to the process of marketing. These two guys will probably claim
they are just average folk – don’t believe it. They have both
created multi-million dollar businesses and I think you have to
be pretty clever to do just that. If you don’t know who they are
– I strongly suggest you look them up. I’ll record my progress
and journey in this blog as often as I can as i start to implement
some very interesting ideas from another marketing genius
Alex Jeffreys. It is really his idea to start this blog. His advice on
focusing on three things a week has stopped the information
overload i used to get. Now I just work on the 3 most important
things a week using his just in -time learning to achieve what
needs to be done.
I’ve got my challenges for this week and that is to get my
domain, set-up this wordpress blog and write my first post. I’ll
try and do more if I can but most likely stick to the three things
on my list. I hope you enjoy reading my blog and tracking my
progress as i know there will be challenges ahead. I hope i’m
not alone in this massive expanse that is the internet so if your
