Speleonectes tulumensis: First Known Venomous
Crustacean
Marine biologists reporting in the journal Molecular Biology
and Evolution say that they have identified the world’s first venomous
crustacean – a rare remipede called Speleonectes tulumensis.
3. BIOLOGICAL SCIENTIST
GREGOR MENDEL
Gregor Johann Mendel (20 July 1822[1] – 6 January 1884) was
a German-speaking Silesian[2][3] scientist and Augustinian friar who
gained posthumous fame as the founder of the modern science of
genetics. Though farmers had known for centuries that crossbreeding
of animals and plants could favor certain desirable traits, Mendel's pea
plant experiments conducted between 1856 and 1863 established
many of the rules of heredity, now referred to as the laws of
Mendelian inheritance.

Human Skin Can “Smell” Odors
Olfactory receptors in the skin may help repair damaged tissue,
a study shows
The detection of chemical odors isn’t limited to the nose.
Internal tissues, including the heart, liver, and gut, are also known to
harbor olfactory receptors. “Only a tiny little amount of odorants are
used by our receptors in the nose,” chemist Peter Schieberle of the
Technical University of Munich told Discovery News. “Odor might
have secondary functions in the human body.”
