2. Main facts on French education
School is free of charge !
School is compulsory from 6 to 16!
School is secular “laïque”.

3. Children usually start at the age of 3 .
It’s basic learning ( letters , numbers …) .

4. When they are 6 they start primary school .
1st year : CP
2nd year : CE1
3rd year : CE2
4th year : CM1
5th year : CM2

5. After primary school they are 11 or 12 .
Final exam called : DNB ( Diplôme National du Brevet ).
They must have level A2 in a foreign language.
1st year : 6ème
2nd year : 5ème
3rd year : 4ème
4th year : 3ème

6. CAP (2 years)
BAC Professionnel (3 years)
or
Apprenticeship at a learning centre
