2. INTRODUCTION
Marma is defined as anatomical site where five
structures i.e. Mamsa , Sira , Snayu , Asthi and
Sandhi meet together .
Acharya Vagbhata says that , these points are seats of
life .
There are 107 such vital points in our body.
Acharya Sushruta and Acharya Vagbhatta have
included Vata Vyadhi under the Ashta Mahagad
because of its Ashukarita and Upadrava.
3. TYPES OF MARMA
Sadya pranahara,
Kalantara pranahara,
Vishalyaghna,
Rujakara
VAIKALYAKARA,
These are the points where injury causes structural
or functional deformity .
These are 44 in number
4. JANU MARMA
Janu marma is situated
in the lower extremity
and forms junction of
femur and tibia bone .
It is one of the sandhi
marma,
Three anguli pramana.
5. SANDHIGATAVATA
Sandhigata vata is the
commonest form of articular
disorder.
It is a type of vatavyadhi
which mainly occurs in
vriddhavastha .
Vata dosha plays main role
in the disease. Shula
pradhana vedana is the
cardinal feature of the
disease .
9. MARMA CHIKITSA
POORVAKARMA
Total relaxation of the
body and mind should
be achieved.
Marma points then
gentle massage with
thumb and fingers over
janu marma points
was done.
10. PRADHANA KARMA
Keep concentrate of
the patient mind on
marma points with
eyes closed.
Marma point was
pressed on proper
therapeutic manner.
15-18 times in one
sitting and three
sittings were given
per day.
11. PASCHAT KARMA
The patient was
advice to take rest
for 5-10 min, and
then allowed to go
back for his/her
routine work.
13. 2.INFLAMMATION
The knee joint is
vulnarable to the
traumatic effect of
these region produce
pain and inflammation
and loss of function.
Foreign body in bone
produces many type of
pain and inflammation.
14. 3.LIMPING
It is one of the
vaikalyakara marma
produce khanjata.
If it get injured it
produces limping of the
lower extremity.
If foreign body present
in the joint produces
loss of function.
15. OTHER MARMA THERAPY
KSHIPRA MARMA:
Located at the
junction of the
thumb and index
finger.
Marma point was
pressed with the help
of thumb and index
finger.
16. KURPARA MARMA:
Over the elbow
joint. Lateral and
medial aspect of the
elbow was gently
pressed with the
thumb and index
finger.
17. MANIBANDHA MARMA:
Location is over the
wrist joint. Marma
point was pressed
with the grip of index
finger and thumb.
22. CONCLUSION
Marmas are vital points that regulates our body
functions.
Marmas are considered as centers for the prana.
They can be used specifically for the diagnosis and
treatment of disease or generally for promoting health
and longevity.
Marma therapy can be used along with all ayurvedic
chikitsa like PANCHAKARMA and yoga.
Marma chikitsa is advance technique of ayurveda
related to diagnosis, treatment of particular disease
and REDUCE PAIN.
