executive HR consultant. A qualified and
experienced trainer, Victor Melendez is certified
to lead harassment policy training specifically
focused on preparing other prospective trainers.
Most workplaces experience behavior that is
not considered acceptable at some point in
time. Harassment does not just consist of
unwelcome sexual advances but rather
encompasses a wide range of improper
behaviors including violation of privacy, gossip
among co-workers, unprofessional verbal or
written communication, and violation of the
Health Insurance Portability and Accountability
Act (HIPAA).
Adequate harassment training raises awareness
within the organization, fosters a positive working
environment that does not tolerate harassment, and
indicates that the company strives to adhere to
relevant policies and laws addressing discrimination
and harassment. An organization could be found
liable in the case of a civil harassment lawsuit if it
involves the actions of company employees. Anti-
harassment policies and employee education is
therefore recommended by the federal government,
and in some American states, it is a legal
requirement, depending on the size of the
organization.
