Find out how much compatible you are with your love partner.
Finding a true love partner is very important work to ensure good and
prosperous life. It is highly advisable to get horoscope matched of
both partners before entring into a relationship. This is to ensure you
don’t experiences relationship problems in future.
Vedic astrology provides method to match horoscopes
of both partners and choose right partner. Horoscope
matching is done to identify the love, features, and na-
ture and communication features of persons. If compati-
bility between both the partners is not checked and they are
not compatible enough then there can be problems
in their married life or relationships.
Sometimes it is not easy to know exact nature and
mental mekeup of a person just by verbal commu-
nication. We have proven science of Indian Astrol-
ogy which can help you in a great deal. Horoscope
Matching is done so that both persons live balanced,
harmonious and healthy life together for a long period.
Generally people assume basic only gun milan is method
to get horoscope matched, but Horoscope Matching much
more than this. Under gun milan, if 18 or more points
are matched out of 36 it is considered horoscope of both
partners are matched. But there many other things
which need to be considered before entring into re-
lationship or marriage. An experienced astrologer
matches horoscopes of both the partners and pro-
Karma 7
vides his valuable tips or information in order to make life of both partners better when
people entering in their love relationships.
Some of points are mentioned below for Horoscope matching:
• Gun Milan: Out of 36, basic compatibility is matched with 18 numbers. Below this
number horoscope is not considered as matched properly and it not good for furture pros-
pects.
• Mental Compatibility: Mental makeup of both partners are analyzed by expert astrolo-
ger so that their mental compatibility matches with each other. If both partners are of short
tempered, then it may result in strained relationship.
• Manglik(Mangal) Dosh: The Manglik dosha is checked by placement of planet Mars in
horoscope of both partners in certain houses. If not checked properly for Manglik Dosha
relationships can have ill effects.
• Longevity: For Long term elationship it is necessary to
check longevity of both boy and girl carefully. If there is
resonable difference then there is no need to match it fur-
ther.
• Separative Tendencies: There should not be any sepa-
rative tendencies in any of the partners. Both partners
should not have any tendency for long separation or any
signs of divorce between them.
• Children: In long term relationship or marriage, every cou-
ple wants to have children out of their relationship. Hor-
oscopes must indicate at least one child out of their
relationship.
• Health: Health is another most important factor which
needs to be considered. Both partners should lead healthy
life and should not face any crippling or fatal diseases
or accident.
• Sexual attraction & satisfaction: There should
some level of sexual attraction between both partner
and both should be able to satisfy sexual urge of their
partner.

It is commonly know that in any horoscope or
birth chart, the 7th house rules the marriage, love
affairs and the married life. However, the Western
system hardly knows that in male horoscopes, the
Navamsha chart, and in female horoscopes, the
Trinshamsha chart play most important part in the
matter of marriage and married life. The another
important factor is the Karaka planet ruling the
aspect of marriage and spouse. It we have the
degrees of all the first seven planets before us at
the time of birth of an individual, the planet with
the least or smallest degrees (Rashi to be ignored)
will be the planet ruling the aspect of marriage and
spouse.
Amongst the planets, the most vitally and directly
connected with the influencing the marriage and
the married life are Mars, Venus and Moon; while
in any kind of joint family setup, Saturn also plays
an important role.
Mars rules the menstrual system in the females, but
at the same time it also rules the personality and
masculine vitality in a male. Similarly, Venus rules
on one hand the semen content in a male. And on
the other it rules the feminine charms in a female,
all the attracts the male towards her. Accordingly
to all systems of astrology, Moon is the lord of the
mind, it rules the process of thinking not only in
humans but all animals too.
It is exactly in this context that Mars has come
to occupy the most important consideration in
matching of horoscopes at the time of marriage.
It is not possible to determine the influence of
Mars, Venus and Moon about any person without
having his/her horoscope before us. The matching
of proposals for marriage of basis of the Zodiac
Signs of the Sun is therefore an eyewash of an
apology in this regard. Even a dud idiot knows
that all person born under a particular Sun sign can
never have the same personality, the same future,
the same likes and needs, the same success and
failure in life, we can challengingly claim that for
future of any person we have to have its horoscope
cast on basis of its correct date, time and place of
birth. The scientific element or the ratio between
a Sun Sign and individual horoscope is therefore
1:360. In other words, a Sun Sing herds together
all individual born in a particular month of the
presence of Sun in a Zodiac Sign, irrespective
of the year of birth; thereby covering the entire
population of the World under twelve Signs or
categories, placing a cart-puller and a Chairman
of a multi-billion Company in the column of same
future and fortune.
On the other hand, an accurately cast horoscope
differentiates every individual from its even other
fellow being, and allocates them separate and
independent future and fortune, which is most
scientific system for any astrological consideration.
As against 30 or 31 day grouping of all people
under a particular sunsign, the individual horoscope
is based on an average phase of 2 house; and when
we go into detailed calculation and consideration,
the range gets narrowed to 13.3 minutes (in case of
Navamsha chart) and further down to 4 minutes in
case of Trinshamsha chart.
It is against this background that the India system
of astrology attaches great importance to a
matching of horoscope for purposes of marriage,
and not just the sign of the Sun. We know that
some western system oriented astrologers in India
are advocating matching of marriage on bases of
Sun Signs, particularly amongst the ignorant small
percentage of Public School educated people, but
these astrologers and a group of newspapers are
unfortunately introducing thereby the failures and
drawbacks of the Western system of marriage into
India also

Chettinad
Samayal / Cooking
Chettinadisfamousforitsrichcultural
heritage,art and architecture,huge
mansions etc etc.But more recently
it is becoming well known world
over for its mouth watering culinary
delicacies.Chettinad restaurants are
being opened in almost all big cities
and towns world over ,Chettinad food
is famous for its spicy aroma.
Most of the food items are easily
digestible, less in caloric value
compared to other south Indian food
items since items like cheese butter
and cashews rarely find its way in
chettinad recipe.Cocunut which is
feared by all for its high cholesterol
content is also used in very small
quantities
Poondu Thuvaiyal
or Chutney
(Side dish with garlic)
In many parts of Tamilnadu this side
dish is very popular and which is not
so in chettinad. My neighbors used to
tell that they have to make few idly’s
more if they have poondu chutney.
I always had a feel that the chutney
will have excess garlic flavor which
will make us embarrassing while
we go out due to its odd smell. So I
never bothered to try it. But one of
my neighbors insisted me to try this
at least once. She is very dedicated in
cooking that she hand grinds it each
time. I told her that I can’t do so. She
asked me to grind it at least in the
mixi and taste. My next doubt was
how much garlic I can peel to have a
good amount of chutney. Garlic costs
Rs 250 a kg now. Though that is not
Karma 11
a matter to be bothered for we people,
we always use less of a thing when it
is off season.
I should really agree that it was
delicious and mouth watering . My
younger one loved it and asked me
why I never used to do that chutney.
I told this recipe to my elder daughter
in US and she too loved it. She gets
peeled big garlic there and finds it
very easy to do this chutney when in
a hurry. Bachelors there can buy and
store the peeled garlic in the fridge
and can use the chutney as a side
dish for frozen chapatti as well. Little
chutney will be enough for 3 or 4
idly’s. The qty of chutney will be less
as the ingredients are less.
Ingredients
Whole garlic -2 or 3, tomato -2
(medium size)
Red chili -3 or 4 (according to taste),or
seasoning
Oil (gingerly if available) – 1 table
spoon, mustard -1 teaspoon
Broken urudh dhal -1 teaspoon .Curry
leaf –little
Procedure:
Theprocedureisverysimple.Notethat
no onions are used. Cut the tomatoes
into small pieces. Keep the kadai in
the stove. In little oil sauté the chilies
first and remove it from the oil. Then
sauté the garlic and tomatoes nicely
till the garlic gets almost cooked.
Finally add the salt needed and allow
the mix to cool. Once it cools grind
it nicely in the small jar. Even after
grinding if there are small pieces of
garlic inside don’t bother. It will be
tasty as a whole. After removing it
from the mixi season the chutney and
pour it on top of the chutny and mix
well till the oil gets mixed nicely into
the whole chutney.

Black Magic, Evil Spirits, Curses, Ghosts
and spells
Black magic is the negative use of energies
and power by the Evil and wicked humans
in this age which is also known as Kali
Yuga. The main purpose in these people’s
lives is to harm or destroy others. They
can also influence them to do wrong or
negative things. It is the evil side of the
celestial cycle or dark energies.
Black Magic can be used to harm or hurt
people by performing rituals anywhere in
the world - the effect of this ritual can be
felt many thousands of miles away. With
increase of jealousy, frustration, greed,
selfishness, negativity and inability to
accept others happiness & growth, the
use of Black magic has become the most
common way to harm and hurt people.
This problem has intensified a lot in the
last few years, and many are suffering
all over the world, totally unaware of the
attacks made by no other than their closest
friends, acquaintances and relatives. Many
prosperous and happy families are ruined
by Black magic.
Symptoms of Black Magic
Black magic puts a block on a person’s
wisdom and intelligence and all efforts to
solve the problem go fruitless. One feels
a mental block, gets disturbed sleep with
bad dreams, and negative thoughts. The
person or persons might do something or
go through many actions and cannot give
reason why they have done what they did.
There is no reasoning behind their actions.
They will get angry without reason or
justifications with people they love and
care for.
These people on whom the black magic
spell is put will feel that they are not getting
their due and can achieve much more.
They will feel suffocated & restless in all
circumstances. They are never at peace and
they will remain depressed, with lack of
enthusiasm or desire to live & rise in life.
Effects of Black Magic
Black Magic can really play havoc with
the life of the target person by destroying
Karma 15
any aspect of life may it be career/
business or wealth/prosperity, creating
family problems or unnecessary tensions/
phobias, adversely affecting children &
family, creating chronic health problems,
destroying mental peace, intelligence &
happiness, cause inner turmoil, unrest &
uncharacteristic/abnormal behavior and
even cause unnatural deaths in extreme
circumstances.
Black Magic not only affects the
circumstances and future prospects of a
person, but also deprives him materially
of everything he was destined for, but also
affects the psyche of the victim in such a
way that he loses the willpower & mental
energy to get out of the dark situation he is
in, and has no desire to live or rise in life.
The effects of Black Magic become more
chronic, dangerous and fatal with time,
if untreated, like a horrible disease. It
starts spreading like a contagious disease,
affecting the person’s mind, brain, body,
relationships, attitudes, work, money,
marriage, career and everything in life. But

the hands is credited to Goddess Lakshmi,
the Goddess of wealth. The middle part is
credited to Goddess Saraswati, the Goddess
of learning and the root to Govinda. So, every
morning, one should have a worshipful look
at one’s hand which represents sincere labor.

Brahmakarmasamaadhina”
The accurate meaning of this mantra is:
“A practice of offering is Brahman, the
oblation is Brahman, the device of offering is
Brahman, and the fire (hunger) to which the
offering is made, is also Brahman. For such a
one, who abides in everything (Brahman), by
him alone Brahman is reached”.
Significance: Brahman refers to God himself.
This Mantra suggests that god is everywhere,
in the food, inside the devotee and even the
hunger is God. So, devotee is taking the food
(God) to the hunger (God). To put succinctly,
we always thank god for his divine grace.
Lighting Lamp / Deepa Jyoti Mantra
Light is considered as a symbol of
auspiciousness, prosperity and abundance in
the Hindu religion. Light brings brightness
with it and removes the darkness. Light
makes it possible to see things clearly.
Following Sloka / Shloka can be recited
while lighting the lamp. This prayer is also
known ‘’deepa shlokam’’.
“Subham Karoti Kalyanam
Arogyam Dhana Sampadah
Shatru Buddhi Vinashaya
Dipa Jyotir Namostute”
The accurate meaning of the mantra is: “I
fold my hands before the light that brings
prosperity, auspiciousness, good health,
abundance of wealth and destruction of
the enemy’s intellect”. Here, Darkness
symbolizes enemy’s intellect and with
the arrival of light, darkness disappears.
Likewise, light (God’s Grace) destroys
darkness (enemy’s intellect).
“Deepajyothi Parabrahma
Deepajyothi Janardhana
Deepo Me Hara Tu Paapam
Deepaa Jyothir Namostute”
The literal meaning of the mantra is: “I fold
my hands before the lord, the maintainer
of this creation, in the form of this light.
I adore this light, which destroys all the
pains resulting from my omissions and
commissions”.
Bedtime Sloka
Bedtime is the time when people want to relax
themselves after the long hectic schedules of
the day. It is considerable to remember God
at such time. Following Bedtime Sloka /
Shloka is a bedtime prayer of the Hindus.
“Karacharana Krn Itam Vaakkaayajam
Karmajam Vaa,
Shravananayanajam Vaa Maanasam
Vaaparaadham,
Vihitamavihitam Vaa Sarvametatkshamasva,
Jaya Jaya Karunaabdhe Shriimahaadeva
Shambho”
The literal meaning of the mantra is: “O God,
kindly pardon my incorrect actions done
consciously or unconsciously, either through
my organs of action or through my organs of
perception or by my mind. I adore the God,
who is the ocean of kindness”.

Shiva Mantra Jaap/ Chanting
This mantra should be recited for 8000 times
in a period of forty days. The recitation of
108 mantra for forty days both in the morning
and evening covers this requirement. For
other purposes larger number of repetitions
are advised.
After lighting a lamp and sitting in any
yogic posture while facing east. Recite the
Maha-mantra 108 times or its multiples
in each sitting. This is the greatest work of
Maharishi Vashistha. Before commencing the
Mahamrityunjaya mantra recite the mantra
to the everlasting spirit of the Maharishi
vasishtha for his blessings and guidance
which is as follows.
Vam Vashistaya Namah
Thereafter, perform Rudrabhishek (Ritual
offering of the Panca-Amrita or the five
forms of nectar as Honey, Ghee, Curd, Milk
and Water) on the Shivalinga.
After this mantra you can start reciting the
Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra
Meaning Of Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra :
It is important to understand the meaning
of the words as this makes the rucurrence
meaningful and brings forth the results.
OM is not spelt out in the Rig-Veda, but has
to be added to the beginning of all Mantras
as given in an earlier Mantra of the Rig-Veda
addressed to Ganapati.
TRYAMBAKKAM refers to the Three eyes
of Lord Shiva. ‘Trya’ means ‘Three’ and
‘Ambakam’ means eyes. These three eyes
or sources of enlightenment are the three
primary deities, namely Brahma, Vishnu and
Shiva and the three ‘AMBA’ means Mother
or Shakti’ are Saraswati, Lakshmi and Gouri.
Thus in this word, we are referring to God as
Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva.
YAJAMAHE means, “We sing Thy praise”.
SUGANDHIM refers to His fragrance of
knowledge, presence and strength as being
the best and always spreading around.
Fragrance refers to the joy that we get on
knowing, seeing or feeling His moral deeds.
PUSTIVARDHANAM Pooshan refers to
Him as the sustainer of this world and in this
manner, He is the Father of all. Pooshan is
also the inner impeller of all knowledge and
is thus the Sun and also symbolizes Brahma
the Creator.
URVAAROKAMEVA ‘URVA’ means
“VISHAL” or big and powerful or
deadly. ‘AAROOKAM’ means ‘Disease’.
Thus URVAROOKA means deadly and
overpowering diseases. The diseases are also
of three kinds caused by the influence of the
three Guna’s and are ignorance, falsehood ,
and weaknesses.
BANDANAAN means bound down. Thus
read with URVAROOKAMEVA, it means ‘I
am bound down by deadly and overpowering
diseases.
MRITYORMOOKSHEYA means to deliver
us from death for the sake of Mokshya.
MAAMRITAAT means ‘please give me some
Amritam to get out of the death inflicting
diseases as well as the cycle of re-birth.

Prem: The Love
Prem Meditation is a spiritual
path, an easy practice which
guides you to rekindle an all
encompassing love in you, love
which we have repressed, stifled
and smothered under our self-
centered, materialistic ambitions.
Prem, the word literally translates
to love, the virtuous trusting
feeling of a baby towards its
mother and the mother’s selfless
and devotional love given
reciprocally to her child. This
unconditional love, a gift from
God needs to be resurrected
to unchain the true freedom.
But how do we do this? This is
achieved by a simple practice of
meditation.
Atharva Prem Dhyan /
Meditation and its benefits
The Sanskrit word Dhyana, or
‘thought’ is the right word for
meditation. Yes, ‘thought’ or
the ability to think has brought
us scientific marvels, and also
the agents of devastation and
uncountable misery to mankind.
If such is the power of thought,
the power of Dhyana, then let
us think of love, let us meditate
Karma 20
on love. Let us perform Atharva
Prem Dhyana and imagine the
power love shall bestow on you.
Swamiji says that only love has
the power to waft away all your
problems as love is supreme. He
has researched, thought about
and meditated on love to evolve a
simple practice which will bring
down all the walls that you have
inadvertently created around
you and open your heart to lead
a fuller life, a life of love, a life
of creativity, a life you always
longed for.
Akasthya Prem Meditation, an
Awakening, A Way of Life
Swamiji Sri Selvam Siddhar
conducts this practice with the
recitation of Sanskrit Mantras.
When you open your heart
chakra you can receive the
power of love. This meditation
practice progressively brings
you closer to yourself, to love,
and imparts meaning to your
life.
The Atharva Prema Meditation
is the Step to Love. Yes you have
to decide to take that step to a
life of love. It will bring a grace,
an adornment, a love colour into
your life. Which will make you
ready to banish all the negative
energies, thoughts and emotions
as the all-encompassing love,
the raison d’être of mankind is
taking root in your heart. The
religion of love, yes, mankind
has only one religion and that is
the religion of love. All religions
of the world teach you to love,
it will initiate you into this all-
embracing religion.
The slow awakening of love
will bring a love aura to you,
empowering you to love away all
your worries, yes love them away.
As you continue practising this
meditation you will experience
an awakening, a new way of life,
a life of love and a spiritual path
of love.

Astral Journey and the Astral Body
You first separate yourself from the
body; then you identify yourself with
the mind, and then you function on
the mental plane, with this fine body
just as you do on this physical plane.
Through concentration, you rise above
the body-consciousness; through
meditation, you rise above mind; and
finally through Samadhi, you realize
your spiritual nature. These are three
important exercises of Antaranga
sadhana in the achievements of
Kaivalya, the final beatitude.
You can, by mere willing alone,
travel to any place you like with the
astral body and there materialize
by drawing the necessary elements
either from Ahankara or the universal
storehouse, the ocean of Tanmatras.
The process is very, very simple to
occultists and Yogis who know the
rationale, the detailed technique
of the various operations. Thought
reading and thought-transference
too can be quite easily performed
by those who can function with the
astral body. Concentrated mental rays
can penetrate opaque walls, just as
X-rays pass through the opaque body.
This is one of the Siddhis (mystical
perfections). Siddhis are not the goal
of life. Do not entangle yourself in
these Siddhis which mar your further
spiritual progress. Shun them entirely.
Continue your Sadhana and stop not
till you reach the goal.
Movement of the Mind
After a short practice of meditation
you will feel that the body gets
lighter in a short time, say fifteen
or thirty minutes after you have
taken your seat on Padma, Siddha
or Sukha Asana according to your
taste and temperament. You may
be semiconscious of the body and
surroundings or you may become
quite unconscious of the body. There
is a great deal of happiness owing
to concentration. This is happiness
resulting from concentration which is
quite distinct from sensual pleasure.
You must be able to differentiate these
two pleasures through the intellect,
renderedsubtlebyconstantmeditation.
Dharana (concentration) and Dhyana
(meditation) have a power to sharpen
the intellect. A trained intellect can
comprehend subtle, philosophical and
abstruse problems beautifully well.
A disciplined intellect that can
carefully differentiate the happiness
Karma 23
derived from concentration and that of
sensual objects will naturally run daily
to enjoy this kind of new happiness
derived from concentration. Such a
mind will loathe at sensual pleasures.
There will be extreme detesting
abhorrence and positive aversion to
objects. It is but natural. Because this
kind of happiness is more lasting,
sustained, self-contained and real as it
emanates from the Atma (spirit soul).
You can distinctly feel that the mind
is moving, that it is leaving its seat in
the heart, and that it is trying to go to
its Yatha Sthana (original seat). You
know that it has left its old groove and
is now passing on a new avenue. As
a result of meditation, new channels
are formed in the brain, new thought-
currents are generated, new brain cells
are formed. There is a transformed
psychology altogether. You have got a
new brain, a new heart, new feelings,
new sentiments, new emotions and
new sensations.
Anahata Sounds:The Mystical Internal
Sounds Heard During Meditation
Anahata sounds are the mystic sounds
heard by the Yogi at the beginning
stage of his meditation. This subject is
termed Nada-Anusadhana, an enquiry
into the mystic sounds. This is a sign
of purification of the Nadis due to the
practice of Pranayama. The sounds
can also be heard after the uttering of
the Ajapa Gayatri mantra, “Hamsah
Soham’, one hundred thousand times.
The sounds are heard through the right
ear with or without closing the ears.
The sounds are distinct when heard
through closed ears. The ears can be
closed by introducing the thumbs in
the ear through the process of Yoni-
Mudra. Sit in Padma or Siddha Asana.
Close the ears with right and left thumb
and hear the sounds very attentively.
Occasionally you can hear the sounds
through the left ear also. Practice to
hear through the right ear only. Why
you hear through the right ear only or
hear distinctly through the right ear is
because of the influence of the solar
Nadi, Pingla. The anahata sound is
also called omkara Dhvani. It is due to
the vibration of prana in the heart.
Karma 24
Guruji Sri Selvam
Before the beginning, the Brahman
(absolute reality) was one and non-
dual. It thought, “I am only one -- may I
become many.” This caused a vibration
which eventually became sound, and this
sound was Om. Creation itself was set in
motion by the vibration of Om. The closest
approach to Brahman is that first sound,
Om. Thus, this sacred symbol has become
emblematic of Brahman just as images are
emblematic of material objects.
The vibration produced by chanting Om
in the physical universe corresponds to
the original vibration that first arose at the
time of creation. The sound of Om is also
called Pranava, meaning that it sustains life
and runs through Prana or breath. Om also
represents the four states of the Supreme
Being. The three sounds in Om (AUM)
represent the waking, dream and deep sleep
states and the silence which surrounds Om
represents the “Turiya” state.
Because the first of the three states of
consciousness is the waking state, it is
represented by the sound “A” pronounced
like “A” in accounting. Because the dream
state of consciousness lies between the
waking and the deep sleep states, it is
represented by the letter “U” which lies
between the “A” and “M”. This “U” is
pronounced like the “U” in would. The
last state of consciousness is the deep sleep
state and is represented by “M” pronounced
as in “sum.” This closes the pronunciation
of Om just as deep sleep is the final stage of
the mind at rest. Whenever Om is recited in
succession there is an inevitable period of
silence between two successive Oms. This
silence represents the “fourth state” known
as “Turiya” which is the state of perfect
bliss when the individual self recognizes
his identity with the supreme.
The Symbol Om
Just as the sound of Om represents the four
states of Brahman, the symbol Om written
in Sanskrit also represents everything.
The material world of the waking state
is symbolized by the large lower curve.
The deep sleep state is represented by the
upper left curve. The dream state, lying
between the waking state below and the
deep sleep state above, emanates from
the confluence of the two. The point and
semicircle are separate from the rest and
rule the whole. The point represents the
turiya state of absolute consciousness. The
open semicircle is symbolic of the infinite
and the fact that the meaning of the point
can not be grasped if one limits oneself to
finite thinking.
The Power of Chanting Om
1.The chanting of Om drives away all
worldly thoughts and removes distraction
and infuses new vigour in the body.
2.When you feel depressed, chant Om
fifty times and you will be filled with new
vigour and strength. The chanting of Om is
a powerful tonic. When you chant Om, you
feel you are the pure, all pervading light
and consciousness.
Karma 25
3.Those who chant Om will have a
powerful, sweet voice. Whenever you
take a stroll, you can chant Om. You can
also sing Om in a beautiful way. The
rythmic pronunciation of Om makes the
mind serene and pointed, and infuses the
spiritual qualifications which ensure self-
realization.
4.Those who do meditation of Om daily
will get tremendous power. They will have
lustre in their eyes and faces.
Meditation on Om
Retire to a quite place, sit down, close your
eyes and completely relax your muscles and
nerves. Concentrate on the space between
your eyebrows and quieten and silence
the conscious mind. Begin to repeat “Om”
mentally while associating the ideas of
infinity, eternity, immortality, etc. You must
repeat Om with the feeling that you are the
infinite and all-pervading. Mere repetition
of Om will not bring the desired result.
Keep the meaning of Om always at heart.
Feal Om. Feel that you are the pure, perfect,
all-knowing, eternal, free, Brahman. Feel
that you are absolute consciousness and the
infinite, unchanging existance. Every part
of your body should powerfully vibrate
with these ideas. This feeling should be
kept up all day long. Practice regularly and
steadily with sincerity, faith, perseverance
and enthusiasm in the morning, midday
and evening.
Mantras
There are many mantras used in worship.
The first is always the Moola Manthirum.
This mantra forms the foundation which
supports all the others. It was not written
by a person but was given to us directly
from Amma Herself in Her oracle. This
mantra has enormous power. Some of the
benefits conferred by reciting the Moola
Mantra are:
1.The Divine energy freely flows from the
feet of Amma to the different systems of
the body. The holy vibrations penetrate all
the cells and revitalize the entire system.
2.Eradication of one’s Karma.
3.Gives you what you rightfully deserve.
4.Helps solve ailments and genuine
problems.
5.Confers blessings leading to prosperity
and a happy life.
6.Helps one to reach the highest spiritual
pedestal (Mukti).
7.Prevents fatal accidents.
Each type of pooja or velvi has specific
mantras which are recited at a certain time
during the ritual. The long mantras have
either 108 or 1008 lines and are concluded
with a short mantra of three lines and three
om’s. The mantras recited during mandram
pooja in America are shown below. Amma
has given us permission to omit the 1008
line mantra which is normally recited
because She says we are so busy and have
little time. All mandrams in India, however,
recite the 1008 as is normally required.
The number 108 has been considered
sacred for thousands of years in India.
The origin of this number probably lies in
astronomy. The average distance from the
sun and moon to the earth is 108 times each
of their respective diameters. This is true to
an accuracy of 0.5% for the Sun and 2% for
the Moon. The thought that this was known
so long ago is amazing. Like all tantric
mantras each line is preceded by om and
concluded with om. These characteristics
give the mantras great potency

Marriage is an important event in our life.
It brings along with it a sense of maturity,
responsibility and completeness. It contributes
towards the enhancement of social status of a
person after marriage.
Before deciding when the native will get
married, so many factors have to be taken
into consideration. The most important factor
deciding the time of marriage is Venus apart
from Jupiter. To predict the time of marriage,
one should have to consider the period of
marriage i.e., early, average or late, the Dasha,
Antardasha etc., and the transit of planets
favorable for marriage.
If jupiter is placed natally between the Libra
and Pisces rashis, generally marriage will take
place only after 30 years. As far as female
natives are concerned, the 8th house, or its
Lord and the planet located in the 8thhouse
play a vital role in marriage aspect. During
marriage jup usually transits over or aspects
the house 1st ,2nd ,5th , 7th , 9th and 10th
from Moon or Lagna, crosses the natal jup,
venus or the present Dasa lord in Rashi.
Early marriage will take place according to
various texts under the following conditions:
1. Ven is placed in Karkataka Rasi, Sagitt. or
Pisces Rashi.
2. Ven positioned in an angle, while the lord of
the Lagna is placed in 7th house.
3. Ven in an angle in opposition to Saturn
4. Strong Ven in lagna, 2nd , 7th or 11th house.
5. Ven in own or exalted sign but associated
with the lord of the 7th house.
6. Ven is placed in the Lagna, 2nd , 7th or 11th
house.
7. A strong moon is placed in 5th or 7th.
8. Ven is placed in between Aries Rashi to
Virgo Rashi.
9. Ven combined with the lord of the 7th in an
angle while aspected by jup in 7th .
Timing of Marriage Operative Dasha
Parameters:
1. Connection of Vimshottari Mahadasha,
Antardasha Lords with Lagna or 7th House or
Lagna Lord.
2. Lagna Lord and 7th Lord making connection
in Navamsha chart.
3. Chara Antardasha Making a connection
Karma 30
with Darakaraka in Jaimini System.
4. Dasha of 7th Lord/ Lagna Lord or Dasha of
7th lord from Venus.
5. Dasha of planet posted in 7th house,
aspecting 7th house or Lord.
6. Transits of Jupiter on Vivah Saham
(sensitive marriage point in the horoscope).
7. Navamsa lords of the 1st, 2nd or 7th houses.
8. Jupiter activating natal Venus in male
charts.
9. Planets positioned in 7th from Venus.
10. Lagna Lord transiting in/near 7th house.
11. Dasha of Rahu/Venus, natural significator
12. Dispositor of 7th Lord.
13. Saturn and Jupiter activating Lagna/Lagna
Lord.
14. In the natal horoscope, planets associated
with the lord of 2nd, 7th ,10th or Ven.
15. Sun and or most planets around lagna or
7th house.
Parameters for Transit of Planets:
1. Saturn and Jupiter will influence two
conditions out of four mentioned below :
i. 7th House ii. 7th Lord iii. Lagna iv.
Lagna Lord
2. The Sun may indicate month of marriage by
influencing one of four conditions mentioned
above by positioning or aspect.
3. The Moon may indicate date of marriage by
influencing one of four conditions mentioned
above by positioning or aspect.
Regarding the marriage of the female natives,
8th house, its lord and the planet located in
the 8th house, plays an important role for
marriage.
Important Tips:
Predicting time of marriage is a very tricky
question, which worries the parents about their
son/daughter. In such cases the Astrologer
should check yogas that confer marriage,
planetary conditions at birth and in transit,
dasha and antra dasha etc. The following
points should also be considered.
1. IfAscendant rashi of a Navamsha chart falls
in 7th house of birth chart and 7th lord is in
12th from Ascendant, marriage will take place
between 16 and 20 years of age.
2. When 2nd house is occupied by Venus and
7th lord is in 11th house, marriage is between
23 and 28 years of age.
3. When 2nd lord is in 11th and Lagna lord is
in 10th house, marriage may occur between 17
and 20 years of age.
4. When Venus is in Kendra houses and 7th
lord is posited in any house owned by Saturn,
aspected by a benefic, marriage age is 23 to

Marriage is very important Sanskar
(occasion) in which a boy and a girl
get married with each other and starts
their married life socially and enter into
Grahast Jeevan. Before marriage most
of the families consult an astrologer for
Matching of the Horoscopes of the boy
and the Girl.
The Vedic system ofAstrology has in it an
age old traditional Horoscope Matching
or Kundli Matching system in which
Gunas are matched on the basis of Janama
Nakshatra of the Boy and Girl and points
are given for various descriptions. These
descriptions are eight in number.
1.Varna (Mental Compatibility): 1 point
It shows the basic potential of a person
and the person’s inherent skills and
abilities. This also includes the personal
egos of both partners and compatibility
between their egos. For best adjustment,
the difference of Varna between the two
should be minimal.
2.Vashya (Dominant Compatibility): 2
points
Vashya means ones control or domination
over the other. It reflects who will be
the more dominant partner between the
two prospective partners.The purpose
of check is to avoid any chances of
confrontation between the two.
3.Tara (Intensity of Relatiomship
Compatibility): 3 points
It indicates the health, well-being and
compatibility of the partners after
marriage and is done on the basis of
Janam Nakshatra of both.
4.Yoni (Physical & Sexual compatibility):
4 points
It shows sexual and biological
compatibility between the two. It also
shows mutual love and sexual inclinations
of the partners.
5.Graha-Maitri (Psychological
Disposition Compatinbility): 5 points
It is used to assess the nature and
temperament of both. It also shows
Karma 32
one’s attitude, objective, and intellectual
level. It shows progeny prospects, mental
qualities and mutual affection between
them.
6.Gana (Compatibility of Nature): 6
points
It is used to compare the general traits
of ones behavior which is determined
by an individual nature and indicates
the compatibility of temperament and
mutual daily behavior, for happiness and
prosperity in their lives.
7.Bhakoot (Mutual Compatibility): 7
points
This is a crucial test to check overall
prosperity in the growth of family, family
welfare and economic prosperity after
marriage.
8.Nadi (Compatibility between Life
Forces): 8 points
It is the most important in Matching as it
has maximum number of points. Nadi or
pulse is the central point and indicator of
nervous energy on which an individual
health and nature depends. This test
also measures the genetic compatibility
between the couple to produce healthy
progeny after marriage.
CONCLUSION:
Each of these factors has its own
significance and have their own number
of points. These all combine together to
make up 36 points or GUNAS.
If a couple scores has less than 18 then
the match is not considered a good match
according to traditional Astrology. If the
score is between 18 - 24, then the match
is acceptable (Average). If the score is
between 25 – 32, then the match is very
good (Above Average). If the score is
above 32 then technically the match is
excellent but a lot of other factors have to
be checked out.
Below are the points which should be
kept in mind before Match Making:
1. Longevity of both, Boy & Girl from
their respective Horoscopes
2. Strength of the horoscope on marriage
point of view
3. Manglik Dosha Matching
4. Analysis of coming Dashas of both
5. Dasha Sandhi and Transit
6. Matching of married life (7th Houses)
in both Horoscopes
7. Match Making of significant planet of
Marriage
8. Prosperity and other related Matching
9. Matching of malefic planets which
affectes marital houses in Horoscope
10. Progeny and soundness of mind.
After matching horoscopes. a couple
can spent their married life happily with
prosperity. If horoscope is not matched
properly then they can be unhappy,
divorce may be happen, child may not
be born or life partner may be dead. So
Match Making is very important for any
marriage.

Swamiji Sri Selvam Siddhar
“There are seven schools of Indian
philosophy, ranging from extreme
materialism, where nothing but matter fills
the universe, to extreme spiritualism, where
matter is a mere shadow of spirit. The
Samkhya and Yoga schools are midway be
tween these. Interestingly, these two are
complementary: the Yoga school deals
with the practical steps of achieving
liberation from all human imperfections
and suffering, while the Samkhya school
provides the philosophical doctrines within
which the existence of these imperfections
and suffering are to be understood.
“The Samkhya school was founded
by the sage Kapila around 600 BCE
and admits of two realities: Purusha, or
Ultimate Consciousness. and Prakrti, or
Elemental Matter. The manifest universe
is an evolution of Prakrti resulting from
the melding of Purusha and Prakrti, that is,
Matter being permeated by Consciousness.
This evolution occurs both in the
macrocosm -- the universe as a whole --
and the microcosm -- mankind. Yoga bases
its teachings on this evolution of mankind.
It concerns itself with the practical aspects
not of reversing this evolution but instead of
bringing about an involution: how mankind
can be led by an inner path from manifest
body and mind to Ultimate Consciousness.
“The principal teaching of Yoga is that
mankind’s True Nature is Divine. Man is
unaware of this True Nature and, instead,
falsely identifies with his body and his
intellect ¬- both of which are comprised of
Prakrti and hence are subject to death and
decay. All of mankind’s misery is therefore
a consequence of this false identification.
Yoga leads to realization of the True Self,
and with such realization comes liberation
from all human imperfection.
There are many paths to realization of the
True Self, just as there are many spokes
from the rim of a wheel to its center. “Yoga”
is used here in a generic sense for all of
these different paths, of which the four
principal are
Karma Yoga -- the yoga of action
Bhakti Yoga -- the yoga of devotion
Jnana Yoga -- the yoga of knowledge
or discrimination
Atharva Vedic Raja Yoga -- the Royal
Path through Atharva Vedic Rituals and
Practice
“Raja Yoga encompasses the teachings of
all the different paths. Raja Yoga concerns
itself with three dimensions or realms:
the physical, the mental and the spiritual.
Through practicing Raja Yoga methods, one
achieves mastery of all three realms and is
thus led to the full realization of the Self.
Karma 35
“The teachings of Raja Yoga go back many
thousands of years, and little is known
of their origin. They are considered to
be Revealed Teachings of Divine Origin.
The sage Patanjali, who lived somewhere
between 200 BCE and the 4th century CE,
systemized and codified these teachings
into 196 Sutras or aphorisms which were
made as brief as possible to facilitate their
memorization and oral transmission. The
first commentaries on the Sutras date from
the 4th century CE.
“Patanjali’s “Yoga Sutras” are organized
into four padas or chapters. The first deals
with Samadhi, the blissful state of Self-
realization; the second with the practical
means of achieving this goal; the third with
the Siddhis, or powers, that manifest in the
successful practitioner of Raja Yoga; and
the last with Kaivalya, or liberation. It is
the practical means of achieving Samadhi
through Raja Yoga that is called Astanga_
Yoga, the Eight-fold (or Eight-limbed) Path.
“The eight angas, or limbs, are Yama,
Niyama, Asana, Pranayama, Pratyahara,
Dhrana, Dhyana and Samadhi. The first five
of these limbs are considered the “external”
limbs; the last three, “internal”. We will
consider each of these briefly.
“The Yamas, or prescriptions (“what
you should do”), and the Niyamas, or
proscriptions (“what you should not do”),
constitute the moral code of Yoga and help
one cultivate the right mental attitudes.
“The Asanas, or postures, aim at physical
well-being and control over the body. A
healthy body is a prerequisite for a healthy
and controlled mind.
“Pranayama is control of Prana, or the Life
Force. Such control is achieved through
control of the most crude manifestation of
Prana: the breath. One can control the mind
only if s/he can control her/his breathing.
“Pratyahara is withdrawal of the senses and
is necessary if one is to achieve tranquility
of the mind.
“Dhrana is attention and concentration
which brings the diffuse mind to a single
point of focus. Prolonged Dhrana leads to
a state of . . .
“Dhyana, or meditation, characterized
by a one-pointedness of mind. Prolonged
Dhyana leads to . . .”Samadhi, the state of
Self-realization. The mind is transcended,
and one becomes aware of the Self and is
united with It.
This state is characterized by Sat-Chit-
Ananda, or Existence-Consciousness-
Bliss: one has merged with Ultimate
Consciousness which is Ultimate Reality.
“Raja Yoga is, therefore, a systematic and
scientific discipline that leads to Ultimate
Truth. Most religions teach one what to
do, but Raja Yoga teaches one how to be.
Unlike most religions, it does not require
unquestioning faith. Instead it encourages
healthy discrimination leading to liberation.
“By following the path prescribed by
Atharva Vedic Raja Yoga, one can verify
for himself its central hypothesis that
mankind’s True Nature is Divine. It is not
merely an ancient, esoteric philosophy but
also a practical, systematic and scientific
quest for the Infinite which is relevant and
necessary in our modern times, both in
the East and the West. If incorporated into
modern education, it would equip mankind
to deal with the conflicts, frustrations and
turmoil which seem inevitable in all modern
societies. Through Raja Yoga, mankind
can realize its full potential for creative
thought and action, transcending all human
limitations and realizing its True Nature.”

The questions by swamiji’s devotees and
answers by our Guru Maharaj in various
satsang collected
“I will give satsangs about God until the
day this mortal body dies. My entire life is
dedicated to loving God and spreading His
great message of love.”
“All my satsangs are really to guide you
towards experiencing Premanandam.
Essentially, in order to go deep within yourself
and find this lovely flower, you have to limit
your material desires and start up a relationship
with the Divine. If you practise these ideas,
you will definitely start out well on the path to
experience divine bliss.”
•Swamiji Selvam Siddhar
What is a Guru?
Who ever teaches Brahma Gyan (Knowledge
to reach God - The Supreme power) is a
Guru or Spiritual Master. A Spiritual Guru is
the external manifestation of God. He is the
personification of Veds. He is empowered
by the Lord to deliver the conditional Souls.
Sometimes the Lord Himself becomes the
Spiritual Master like Krishna, who showed
Arjun his original form.
Are Guru and Parmatma one?
Guru is the form of Parmatma.
Do you talk with God? How can we know?
Those who have attained such a state can know.
Just as I have not learnt English and so cannot
understand if someone speaks in English.
Similarly those who know the language of God
can only understand.
What should be relationship between a true
Guru and disciple?
That cannot be explained through language. It
can be only expressed though feelings of heart.
Swamiji, Total Person like Krishna failed to
satisfy his dear most friend and devotee Arjun
through his words which runs through 18
chapters of GITA. Ultimately Krishna succeeds
in dispelling Arjun’s doubts only by unfolding
himself, exposing his universal form. Then
why don’t you show us your original form?
You are all my ‘Varat Swaroop’. I am there in
all of you and all of you are in me. You have
only to trust. The moment you develop firm
faith, you will see me everywhere.
Lord Krishna says in Geeta - “Everyone has to
hear the fruits of his Karmas.” Can Guru save
his disciple from punishment of his irreligious
acts?
One cannot escape from Karma-Phal. That is a
universal law. Nature never changes its rules.
But a Brahma Gyani, Brahma Nistha Guru can
help his devotee, if his faith and devoti on to
Guru is unshakeable.
Suppose a person has to fall from a 7th floor
of a building due to his previous Karmas. No
one can save him from falling, because this is
his Karma’s matured fruit. But a Mahatma, a
Satguru can help the person, making him fall
on some truck full of dunlop or cart carrying
cotton. The person is to fall this is his Karma’s
punishment. But he will be saved from hurt or
injury by any means. This is Guru’s help.
Your Holiness, what is difference between
Atma and Parmatma?
Atma and Parmatma are one and the same.
The whole modern civilisation is operating on
the misunderstanding that body is the self, but
this is the mentality of animals as they are not
having Buddhi for seif-realisation.
By surrendering to Guru, what does one get?
By taking the shelter of a bonafied Spiritual
Master and obeying his instructions with
firm faith and devotion, one gets knowledge,
detachment and ultimately Liberation
(Moksha).
Our Vedant declares, “Destiny is irrevocable
and unavoidable.” Then why one should
unnecessarily bother and labour hard?
It is indeed true that one would get only what
is destined for him. However it behoves One to
make a clear and proper distinction, between
where it is appropriate to be resigned to
one’s fate and where it is appropriate to exert
personal effort. Securing a job is a matter of
destiny, but having secured one, to sustain it
with sincerity is a matter of personal efforts.
To acquire or come into wealth is dictated by
destiny, but how to use that wealth for a good
purpose is a matter of personal choice and
efforts. Whatever One is given by destiny, what
one gets is his destiny; But how one uses it is
his freedom of choice and efforts (Purushartha
or New Karmas).
Swamiji, is it true that Heaven and Hell are
only on this Earth?
Heaven and Hell on this earth are only samples.
As per our Holy Scriptures, there are eighteen
varieties of Heaven and Hells. Among them
one type of each is here on this earth. They
are like samples. When a trader, like a cloth
merchant, comes to you to fetch order, he only
brings his samples to show you. Again a grain
merchant will only show Samples of grains. He
does not carry his godown with him. Likewise
nature has created only one sample of his
Heaven and Hell here on earth.
How One can live without sufferings?
By simply observing without reacting. By
simply examining any phenomenon objectively
with equanimity, with a balanced mind. Like
during meditation one feels pain in knee. Now,
if he can learn just to observe the physical
pain, if One can examine the sensation of pain
objectively like a doctor examining someone
else’s pain. Then One can see that pain itself is
changing. It does not remain forever, it comes
and goes, every moment it changes, but you-
the observer-remain the same, unchangeable.
If One understands this by personal experience,
One can find that pain can no longer overwhelm
and control him. Perhaps it goes away, perhaps
not; but it does not matter. One cannot suffer
from pain anymore, because now he observes
it with detachment.
When will people understand that there is
only one God? Will the different religions be
one in the future?
Only when humankind completely understands
its true nature, will all religions become one.
That is why I have to give advice in order to
uplift human beings.
Will any enormous natural disaster happen in
2012 that will affect the whole world?
Some disasters will take place in the world,
such as the occurrence of the tsunami, but that
is all. The world will not be destroyed.
Swamiji, you raised from the dead one of
your Canadian devotees and many people
witnessed it. How did you do that?
Shivaratri (*) is a time when everyone comes
with devotion. Everyone has to die one day.
However, it was not the day that this particular
person was destined to die. I thought of the
Divine and blessed him. It was God alone who
did this. It was not me.
(*) This event took place at Shivaratri – the
festival night of Lord Shiva
Will oil for cars, planes, ships etc. soon run
out completely in the whole world? What will
happen then?
By the time oil resources have completely
disappeared, cars will run on water.
Some people have been cured even from fatal
diseases after receiving Lingam blessings but
this does not happen to everyone. What does
it depend on? Why are some people cured
and others not?
There are different reasons as to why a
blessing with a Shivalingam has no effect.
The Shivalingam has a connection with your
devotion for and faith in God. If they consider
it as an ordinary happening, if it is done for
money without caring or if they don’t have
devotion, the healing will not take place.
Karma 38
Another aspect is that the persons receiving the
blessing may have carried very strong karma
from a previous birth with them so that they
cannot be healed.
Will you have any great disciples in the
future?
I do not expect that I should have any disciples,
but people who are very devoted to God will be
around me. Many such people will be with me.
When the soul leaves the body how long does
it take before it takes another birth? How long
is the period between death and another birth
on average?
The Itihasa scriptures (holy scriptures) and the
powerful holy people known as the Siddhas,
have said that it is eight years.
In Christianity there are a lot of rites that are
similar to Hindu ones but different from Jewish
ones. For instance, the worship of the Master’s
feet and the removal of sins by ablution in
a sacred river. Moreover Jesus, who was a
Jew, referred to God as His Father, which is
not usual for the Jewish culture and the most
important thing for Jesus was love towards
God and other beings as it is also in the case
of many Hindu saints. Does it mean that Jesus
was in India during his lifetime?
You could say that Jesus Christ came to India
or that he came and went. Or, instead, you
could say that all religious rites are one and
that Jesus Christ taught through his wisdom.
This is my point. We accept that he came as
the messenger of God. We need not think that
he necessarily had to come to India to get this
knowledge. In the waters beneath the earth
there are many living creatures co-existing in
unity. Similarly, messengers who are born on
earth also have the oneness of the world always
in mind.
In the Hebrew language a word for the Holy
Spirit is a feminine word “ruah” and it is
symbolized by a dove in the Gospels. Jesus
and his disciples bestowed their power of
the Holy Spirit on other disciples by putting
their hands on disciples’ heads and then they
obtained different powers such as the power to
heal others. Obtaining the Holy Spirit is often
illustrated as flames of fire above the disciples’
heads. In the Hindu tradition the Master also
transfers shakti (Divine feminine energy) in
the same way as Jesus did and this energy is
illustrated as fiery energy that rises from the
bottom of the spine to the top of the head. Can
we say that Divine Shakti and the Holy Spirit
are two words for the same divine feminine
energy?
They were teaching about God’s power
according to the times and circumstances.
You want to compare the Holy Spirit with the
Hindu Sanatana Dharma. In truth, all dharmas
are the same. Finding small differences and
wondering if this came from that or that came
from this is like asking whether the chicken
came from the egg or the egg from the chicken.
What are the Akasha Chronicles and who has
access to them?
This has all come from the Rishis who were in
great meditative states. It is through them that
we have science and wisdom.
. Have any of your disciples achieved
enlightenment? Will your other disciples
attain enlightenment in their lifetime?
Enlightenment is not in my hands. I guide,
advise and teach. If you have complete faith in
me and follow these ways, you will definitely
attain enlightenment. However, it cannot
be forced into you. Becoming mature is
something one has to do by oneself.
You have given a mantra for meditation to
some of your devotees. How does it help them
in their spiritual development?
Mantra is a name of God. It is a way to pray
to God. Even though God is beyond name
and form, using name and form to reach Him
changes a person into a good human being
and makes that person follow a noble path.
It paves the way to live as a fine person with
good thoughts. Mantras aid us in making the
mind one-pointed and support the mind to go
in the correct direction.
Can a mantra given by you lead to the
awakening of kundalini shakti in your
devotees?
Awakening kundalini means to make the
Karma 39
mind one-pointed and attain a higher state of
meditation.
What are the stages of mantras that work
inside us?
Mantras are meant to create devotion in human
beings.
You give personal lingams to some of your
devotees. What can they achieve by performing
pujas to these lingams?
By doing pujas you can make devotion arise
in you.
How should we understand the first
Commandment given by God to Jewish people
and confirmed later by Christ for Christians?
What does the phrase “other gods” mean?
Does it mean that if we were born as
Christians we should not worship Allah, Lord
Shiva or Lord Krishna even if we love God
in these forms? Most saints say that it is only
one God so how we should understand this
Commandment?
In the Bible Jesus says that there is one God and
that you should pray to Him only. According to
his teaching there is a being beyond us, which
is God, but Jesus himself is not God. That is
his teaching.
Who is following his teachings nowadays?
Nobody understands and follows his spiritual
ideas. The same situation has arisen with regard
to Buddha’s and Mohammed’s teachings; it has
happened to all the spiritual teachers. None of
these people ever proclaimed themselves to be
God. They were all avatars sent by God; they
were not God. That is what Jesus says in the
Bible. So who is God? The answer is that He is
nameless and formless, beyond us, and called
‘The Father’. Some people call that Father
Shiva; others call Him Vishnu or Muruga or
Vinayakar or Divine Mother… Jesus did not
reject any name that was used for Him. He only
said that he (Jesus) was not God.
In these spiritual questions we talked about
God’s messengers. Avatars, incarnations of
the Divine, are sent by God to the earth. These
are God’s own people and it is rarely that such
beings, only one or two, come in this way. The
power of God reveals itself in such beings from
their childhood. They also face much sorrow
and opposition.
There are also those who follow the spiritual
path, mature through it and then have disciples
to teach spirituality to.
There are still others who have full faith in a
spiritual master, accept that Guru’s words,
learn spirituality through them and attain a
mature state of being. There are many stages
of spirituality. They are taught at different
levels and through different methods. You
are asking your questions thinking that all the
stages are the same. I am unable to stay at your
level and give replies, but if I reply to your
questions from the state of Truth, you cannot
understand it.
I know the replies you are expecting. I find
the reply in your questions. If the question
is incorrect, the reply will also be wrong. You
might expect that I will give this wrong reply,
but I cannot do so and my reply that I give for
your wrong question will look wrong to you.
What can I do?
In spirituality there are many states.
One is that there is a supreme force, which is
beyond us, that sends a person to this world
and is doing its work through that person.
Another is when one is born into this world and
receives the power from the Divine at a certain
stage.
Yet another is when one turns away from
worldly pleasures and tries to know that
supreme power through spiritual practice,
making the mind one-pointed. Then, whatever
one has realized through striving and then
through experience, is again another state.
There are many such levels with regard to the
state of spirituality. Avatars, Siddhas, Rishis,
saints, seekers, those enlightened through
devotion to Shiva, people full of Divine grace,
devotees and so on. In this way one could put
everyone in some category. However, if you
put everyone in the same category and then ask
questions, how can I guide you?

Siddhars words...
His Teachings
“Ask yourself, what is the truth? Why
was I born? How long will I live?
What am I going to do? Where will I
be ultimately? If you were to seriously
contemplate such things you would
realise the truth.”
“It is not important to believe in God, or
to believe in what I or anybody else tells
you, but believe yourself, believe your
own heart, be courageous and fearless.
Otherwise you cannot do anything and
cannot reach anywhere, neither in the
world nor on the spiritual path.”
“The way to become selfless is to think of
others always and to take care of others.”
Love & Inner Peace
“The easiest way to come close to God is
through love. True love is the absolute,
ultimate sweetness transcending all that
is earthly. There is nothing higher. True
love is God.”
“Your mind should become peaceful in
order to progress.”
“If we can see the divine love that exists
in everything, everywhere, we can love
all beings in the world and only then
can we truly do something good in this
world. The heart will become a spring
of love and every being will be seen as
the Divine.”
“Reach that nice stage – not reacting
to anything that goes on around you.
Be completely centered in your Self.
Nothing else should disturb you.”
“Say, “It doesn’t matter” and take it easy.
Make a cup of tea and relax.”
Universality
“When a child is born, does it feel
superior or different from others? Is
it conscious of its religion or caste? It
is the family and the environment that
determine caste, creed and status and it
is they who install these separations in
the mind of the child. Yet in the presence
of the Divine these differences have no
meaning.”
“The ideas expressed in all religions are,
to a great extent, in harmony. No matter
to what religion we belong, we must
accept the fact that there is only one
supreme reality in all religions. Our aim
is to reach this reality and not to worry
about how many religions and paths
there may be.”
“If we accept that we all emanate from
one great source of energy then only
will we realize the essential unity of
humankind.”
Service
“There is much work to be done in this
world. Let us be active. Let’s not talk
too much and let us do something! True
service is done selflessly, with love,
humbleness and patience, and without
pride. In order to really give true service
Karma 43
we have to work on ourselves to acquire
such virtues and learn to give without
expecting anything in return.”
“Divinity is within you. Likewise,
remember that the same spark of the
divine is there within all other living
beings. By doing service to them you are
serving God.”
“We should never miss a chance to serve
others whenever we can.”
The World
“Today’s world has become caught up
in illusion and desire. Human beings
must start to purify themselves and look
after their fellow men and other creatures
according to the eternal laws of wisdom.
If they would share their wealth with
the poor wisely and replace selfishness
with compassion, there would be little
suffering in this world. Each one of us
is responsible for the future of the planet
and the growth of the message of truth.”
“If you change yourself determinedly
and full of confidence into a beautiful
and noble person, the vibrations of your
good thoughts will radiate from you
towards society. If you are filled with
compassionate and selfless thoughts,
then slowly human society will change
and be uplifted.”
“Everything is one and God is one.”
“If you want to meditate you have to be
able to relax and take it easy. No tension.
You have to manage with the way things
are. Do your best but don’t get excited.”
The Master’s Presence
“One may learn quickly from evolved
people who are themselves immersed
in devotion and who have love in their
hearts. I am not saying you cannot
continue alone but it is a question of
time. If you find a true guide and learn
from him it may be possible to learn
everything in this very birth! If you have
much time and endless patience, you
can carry on learning from your worldly
experiences, but it will probably take you
many lives.”
“God’s grace flows through the saint
like a natural spring. The obstacles to
receiving it are with in you. Silently, the
saint guides you towards the Divine. He
teaches you and leads you powerfully
deep within your self. Through him, you
can experience pure Divinity and it can
become a real experience for you.”
“The Master shows you the path to your
true heart. He allows you to taste the
bliss of absolute freedom.”
True Happiness
“All the wealth in the world can never
give you true happiness but it can give
you unbearable pressures, difficulties,
confusions pain and disease. We are all
searching for happiness, in one way or
another, but do not realise that it lies
within ourselves.”
“Whether you are working, giving
service or practising sadhana - whenever
you meet with some difficulties, look
sincerely and deeply into yourself and
you will find the origin of your problems
right there within yourself .”
“Remember, the only way you can really
be free is to belong to the Supreme,
totally. That is what I mean by absolute
happiness, Anandam!”
“Don’t worry – be happy!”

Various Excerpts from Swamiji Sri Selvam
Siddhar’s satsang
( From Ganesh Chaturthi 2014 Satsang)
Om Namashivaya!!
If you pray to Lord Ganesha wholeheartedly, He
will appear and give you His darshan. Vinayagar
Chaturti is a superb day for those who wish to
receive Lord Ganesha’s grace. Let them pray to
Him on that day with devotion. There is a scripture
called the ‘Vinayagar Kavasam’, in praise of Lord
Ganesha. In it, it is said that worshipping Lord
Ganesha on Ganesha Chaturti gives the same
benefits as worshipping him during all 365 days
of the year.
Lord Vinayagar is the God to be worshipped
first. He is the Lord of all types of people, who
easily comes to all places, wherever you think
of Him. When you pray to Him, chant His name
wholeheartedly. You will receive His grace and
blessings.
According to the ancient tradition, people will
do a Ganesha puja even before starting to build
a house. When they want to open that new
house, they will perform a Ganapati homam (fire
ceremony) and thereby open the house. This is
the ancient way of doing everything after first
worshipping Lord Ganesha through poojas.
Whether they wanted to conduct a ceremony,
have an auspicious function or a special pooja,
from ancient times it has been a belief amongst
the people that they should first worship Lord
Ganesha and then only start anything. On this day,
according to each person’s possibilities, they give
offerings to Lord Vinayagar and pray to Him, who
appears and fulfills their requests and wishes.
Let us pray to Lord Ganesha, who is the first God
for all activities, on this auspicious Vinayakar
Chaturti day and be happy to receive His grace for
our wishes to be fulfilled.
Excerpts from Happy New Year 2014 Satsang
Om Namashivaya!!
I thought of sharing a message of love with you all
for the New Year.
Let us give everyone the opportunity to be good.
There may be people who did not do anything
wrong; there may be some people who make
mistakes knowingly or unknowingly; there may
be some who made mistakes because of their
situation; there may be people who make mistakes
continuously without changing themselves. There
are many different kinds of people in today’s
world. Don’t think that these people should be
shunned by our society and don’t keep away from
them. If you would talk with them you would see
that the reason for their mistake is not a wrong
one. It may be wrong according to the law. But, if
you want to see everyone in society as pure, good
people, then you need love.
Since we don’t have close relationships with some
people, who are in poverty, in difficulties, who
don’t see any development in their lives, who are
worried and depressed, and we avoid them, they
make mistakes, thinking that they should get rid
of all this and live happily. They do this without
understanding, without knowing that these
small or big mistakes are mistakes and, without
knowing their affect, they think only of that day’s
happiness. After making the mistakes they realize
them and are very worried and then, when society
also shuns them and no one talks to them lovingly,
they come into a situation that makes them repeat
the same mistakes. To correct them you should
talk and behave with them lovingly. Help them in
the way you can. Tell your advice lovingly. Then
you can make them completely eliminate that
tendency of making mistakes.
The law has made many innocent people who did
not do anything wrong, into convicts. They plan,
they create victims and the documents to support
their claim and, using all this, they convict them.
Because of this we may think of them as criminals,
but their conscience tells them they are innocent.
When you shun them, their mind leads them to
make mistakes. They will think there is no benefit
Karma 45
for them in being a good person. Instead of
researching whether he is a good or a bad person,
we should help everyone in whichever way we
can without expecting anything and with a good
heart.
We can give each and every one the opportunity
to become a good person. Believe that this
chance that we give them will definitely make
them a good person.
Wherever we are, whatever situation we are in,
whatever difficulties we are undergoing, we
should understand the rules and regulations of
that place and we should act accordingly and
live as good people. Our life won’t last for one
hundred years. As long as it lasts, we should live
as good people for our own sake and we should
also take care that we live in a way that won’t
trouble anyone else, no matter where we are. Let
us think of good, do good, live as good people and
talk in a good way.
Excerpts from Guru Purnima 2014 Satsang
Om Namashivaya!!
Once every 365 days Guru Purnima comes round.
From the time this world was created until now,
the teachings of the guru have been the reason for
human beings having attained a high state. When
children study in school the teacher who lovingly
teaches them there is called a guru. A person
who teaches someone a profession is also called
a guru. A person who teaches politics is also
called a guru. Even doctors who treat patients in
a hospital have been taught meticulously how to
do that and the one who did that is also a kind of
guru. Therefore, having a guru is very essential
for all types of practices. However, this day is
a sacred day that we joyfully celebrate to give
respect to the one who teaches spirituality, to
remind ourselves of his or her teachings, points
of view and advice. We do this by thinking of all
these Gurus full of divine grace, or by thinking
only of our own Guru. In a spiritual context, this
day is called Guru Purnima.
We perform the puja on Guru Purnima to think
about the teachings of the Guru and to get rid of
any bad habits we may have so that we can reach
a high state. All those teachers whom you think
of as a spiritual Guru during this puja will be with
you on this Guru Purnima day. Since ancient
times it has been a great Vedic belief that their
divine power will be strongly present. When
you call out to them with a true heart that divine
power will reveal its presence. Thinking about
their teachings and realizing them with all your
heart – this is the real, great Guru Purnima puja.
We just pray for the grace of all the siddhas,
the great saints and avatars but, really, what is
important is to accept their teachings and follow
them. Nowadays the reason that human society
goes to get the darshan of saints, avatars and
siddhas is to obtain release of their day-to-day
problems, difficulties and worries and they expect
to receive their grace. This is like thinking about
small matters within a circle of selfishness.
Our birth, this human birth, is a rare and elevated
one. However, we are not using this birth to take
the necessary steps in order to wholly accept their
grace, blessings and teachings. We don’t make
ourselves mature, develop spiritually or immerse
ourselves in that wisdom and attain that blissful
happiness in a permanent way. We are only
devoted to solving our day-to-day problems and
difficulties and involving ourselves in this with all
our heart. Guru Purnima is a day that, through
the teachings of the Gurus, paves the way for us
to do sadhanas that lead to unwavering peace of
mind and equal bliss. What we should understand
on this Guru Purnima is that only their teachings
will guide us in the correct way towards a high
spiritual state. The teachings are essential. We
should follow them.
Good will happen. My special blessings are with
you all on this Guru Purnima.
Karma 46
•H.H Swamiji Sri Selvam Siddhar
A human being does not come to earth
to live for hundreds of years. He may
live for possibly 80, 90 or 100 years.
What wealth does he have? His true
wealth is his body. The body is the
most precious wealth you possess, not
the wealth of money, land or property
and so on. You need to ask yourself -
did you become selfish because of love
for your body? How did you become
selfish? Why should you be a selfish
person? Why should selfish thoughts
arise in the mind? The reason is because
of the attachment you have for worldly
things. Most people are interested in
running after worldly things and getting
entangled in mundane matters.
There is a great power and intelligence
beyond us that activates all. First, you
have to accept this. This power is what
I refer to as Divinity. Divinity lives
within all beings. Genuine service that
you do for Divinity should be selfless
service. If you are to do selfless service
you have to forget your individuality
and not act on the basis of “I” or the
ego. What belongs to you in this world?
What is “I”? What is mine? Is your wife
or husband yours? Are the children
yours? Is your house yours? What is
there, that can truly be called “yours.”
Evenyourbodyisnotyours.Selfishness
comes because you attach your mind to
the house, to your wife, your husband,
to your children and many other things
in the world. Because there is a strong
attachment and liking to all these
things, the feeling of selfishness creeps
into you. That selfish attitude develops
in you and becomes stronger as you
cling to the material world.
The time will come when you realize
that nothing really belongs to you.
Everything is the creation of the Divine.
When this time comes, you can do true
selfless service. How can you reach
this state of mind? You need to change
yourself. Instead of thinking that things
are yours, change your way of thinking.
Regard everything as belonging to the
Divine. Many people say, “Oh, it is His
will, let His will be done” but, in fact,
they do not understand what they are
talking about.
In order to discover what really is
His will and to realize that everything
belongs to Divinity you need to
commence the practice of self-enquiry.
I have often told you what questions you
need to ask yourself in this practice. To
remind you, they are “Who am I? Why
was I born? What is the true purpose of

  • 11. Karma 9 It is commonly know that in any horoscope or birth chart, the 7th house rules the marriage, love affairs and the married life. However, the Western system hardly knows that in male horoscopes, the Navamsha chart, and in female horoscopes, the Trinshamsha chart play most important part in the matter of marriage and married life. The another important factor is the Karaka planet ruling the aspect of marriage and spouse. It we have the degrees of all the first seven planets before us at the time of birth of an individual, the planet with the least or smallest degrees (Rashi to be ignored) will be the planet ruling the aspect of marriage and spouse. Amongst the planets, the most vitally and directly connected with the influencing the marriage and the married life are Mars, Venus and Moon; while in any kind of joint family setup, Saturn also plays an important role. Mars rules the menstrual system in the females, but at the same time it also rules the personality and masculine vitality in a male. Similarly, Venus rules on one hand the semen content in a male. And on the other it rules the feminine charms in a female, all the attracts the male towards her. Accordingly to all systems of astrology, Moon is the lord of the mind, it rules the process of thinking not only in humans but all animals too. It is exactly in this context that Mars has come to occupy the most important consideration in matching of horoscopes at the time of marriage. It is not possible to determine the influence of Mars, Venus and Moon about any person without having his/her horoscope before us. The matching of proposals for marriage of basis of the Zodiac Signs of the Sun is therefore an eyewash of an apology in this regard. Even a dud idiot knows that all person born under a particular Sun sign can never have the same personality, the same future, the same likes and needs, the same success and failure in life, we can challengingly claim that for future of any person we have to have its horoscope cast on basis of its correct date, time and place of birth. The scientific element or the ratio between a Sun Sign and individual horoscope is therefore 1:360. In other words, a Sun Sing herds together all individual born in a particular month of the presence of Sun in a Zodiac Sign, irrespective of the year of birth; thereby covering the entire population of the World under twelve Signs or categories, placing a cart-puller and a Chairman of a multi-billion Company in the column of same future and fortune. On the other hand, an accurately cast horoscope differentiates every individual from its even other fellow being, and allocates them separate and independent future and fortune, which is most scientific system for any astrological consideration. As against 30 or 31 day grouping of all people under a particular sunsign, the individual horoscope is based on an average phase of 2 house; and when we go into detailed calculation and consideration, the range gets narrowed to 13.3 minutes (in case of Navamsha chart) and further down to 4 minutes in case of Trinshamsha chart. It is against this background that the India system of astrology attaches great importance to a matching of horoscope for purposes of marriage, and not just the sign of the Sun. We know that some western system oriented astrologers in India are advocating matching of marriage on bases of Sun Signs, particularly amongst the ignorant small percentage of Public School educated people, but these astrologers and a group of newspapers are unfortunately introducing thereby the failures and drawbacks of the Western system of marriage into India also

  • 13. Karma 11 a matter to be bothered for we people, we always use less of a thing when it is off season. I should really agree that it was delicious and mouth watering . My younger one loved it and asked me why I never used to do that chutney. I told this recipe to my elder daughter in US and she too loved it. She gets peeled big garlic there and finds it very easy to do this chutney when in a hurry. Bachelors there can buy and store the peeled garlic in the fridge and can use the chutney as a side dish for frozen chapatti as well. Little chutney will be enough for 3 or 4 idly’s. The qty of chutney will be less as the ingredients are less. Ingredients Whole garlic -2 or 3, tomato -2 (medium size) Red chili -3 or 4 (according to taste),or seasoning Oil (gingerly if available) – 1 table spoon, mustard -1 teaspoon Broken urudh dhal -1 teaspoon .Curry leaf –little Procedure: Theprocedureisverysimple.Notethat no onions are used. • 18. Karma 16 Simple Mantras for every day Life By Param Pujya His Holiness Swamiji Sri Selvam Siddhar Early Morning Mantra Early Morning is said to be the best time to worship God. It is regarded that prayers made at this time reach directly to the God. Early Morning Shlokas below serves as the first prayer of the day to the massive. “Karaagre Vasate Lakshmi Karamadhye Sarasvati, Karamuule Tu Govinda Prabhaate Karadarshanam, Samudravasane Devi Parvatastanamandale, Vishhnupatni Namastubhyam Paadasparsham Kshamasva Me” Meaning of sloka Above: The front part of the hands is credited to Goddess Lakshmi, the Goddess of wealth. The middle part is credited to Goddess Saraswati, the Goddess of learning and the root to Govinda. So, every morning, one should have a worshipful look at one’s hand which represents sincere labor. I bow to Mother Earth, who has mountains and jungles on her body and whose clothing is made by the ocean. The wife of Lord Vishnu, please pardon me for touching you with my feet. Starting your day with this sincere prayer is considered to be auspicious Shower/ Bath Time Mantra Bathing is a time when people take a shower to shed the physical impurities and dirt of their body. Following is the Shloka/ Sloka for a Holy Bath, which can be recited while taking a bath. “Ganga Cha Yamuna Chaiva Godavari Saraswati, Narmada Sindhu Kaveri Jalesmin Sannidhim Kuru” The literal meaning of this mantra is: “In this water, I invoke the presence of divine waters from the rivers Ganga, Yamuna, Godavari, Saraswati, Narmada, Sindhu and Kaveri. Food, hunger, living beings, all of them form the part of God’s creation. One should remember God, the universal, who has given both, sweet and sour delicacy to satisfy our taste-buds. Following is the Shloka which can be recited while eating or taking your food. “Brahmaarpanam Brahma Havih Brahmaagnau Brahmana Hutam, Brahmaiva Tena Gantavyam Brahmakarmasamaadhina” The accurate meaning of this mantra is: “A practice of offering is Brahman, the oblation is Brahman, the device of offering is Brahman, and the fire (hunger) to which the offering is made, is also Brahman. For such a one, who abides in everything (Brahman), by him alone Brahman is reached”. Significance: Brahman refers to God himself. This Mantra suggests that god is everywhere, in the food, inside the devotee and even the hunger is God. So, devotee is taking the food (God) to the hunger (God). To put succinctly, we always thank god for his divine grace. Lighting Lamp / Deepa Jyoti Mantra Light is considered as a symbol of auspiciousness, prosperity and abundance in the Hindu religion. Light brings brightness with it and removes the darkness. Light makes it possible to see things clearly. Following Sloka / Shloka can be recited while lighting the lamp. This prayer is also known ‘’deepa shlokam’’. “Subham Karoti Kalyanam Arogyam Dhana Sampadah Shatru Buddhi Vinashaya Dipa Jyotir Namostute” The accurate meaning of the mantra is: “I fold my hands before the light that brings prosperity, auspiciousness, good health, abundance of wealth and destruction of the enemy’s intellect”. Here, Darkness symbolizes enemy’s intellect and with the arrival of light, darkness disappears. Likewise, light (God’s Grace) destroys darkness (enemy’s intellect). “Deepajyothi Parabrahma Deepajyothi Janardhana Deepo Me Hara Tu Paapam Deepaa Jyothir Namostute” The literal meaning of the mantra is: “I fold my hands before the lord, the maintainer of this creation, in the form of this light. I adore this light, which destroys all the pains resulting from my omissions and commissions”. Bedtime Sloka Bedtime is the time when people want to relax themselves after the long hectic schedules of the day. It is considerable to remember God at such time. Following Bedtime Sloka / Shloka is a bedtime prayer of the Hindus. “Karacharana Krn Itam Vaakkaayajam Karmajam Vaa, Shravananayanajam Vaa Maanasam Vaaparaadham, Vihitamavihitam Vaa Sarvametatkshamasva, Jaya Jaya Karunaabdhe Shriimahaadeva Shambho” The literal meaning of the mantra is: “O God, kindly pardon my incorrect actions done consciously or unconsciously, either through my organs of action or through my organs of perception or by my mind. I adore the God, who is the ocean of kindness”.

OM is not spelt out in the Rig-Veda, but has to be added to the beginning of all Mantras as given in an earlier Mantra of the Rig-Veda addressed to Ganapati. TRYAMBAKKAM refers to the Three eyes of Lord Shiva. ‘Trya’ means ‘Three’ and ‘Ambakam’ means eyes. These three eyes or sources of enlightenment are the three primary deities, namely Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva and the three ‘AMBA’ means Mother or Shakti’ are Saraswati, Lakshmi and Gouri. Thus in this word, we are referring to God as Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. YAJAMAHE means, “We sing Thy praise”. The diseases are also of three kinds caused by the influence of the three Guna’s and are ignorance, falsehood , and weaknesses. BANDANAAN means bound down. Thus read with URVAROOKAMEVA, it means ‘I am bound down by deadly and overpowering diseases. MRITYORMOOKSHEYA means to deliver us from death for the sake of Mokshya. MAAMRITAAT means ‘please give me some Amritam to get out of the death inflicting diseases as well as the cycle of re-birth. • 24. Karma 22 Guruji Sri Selvam Astral Journey and the Astral Body You first separate yourself from the body; then you identify yourself with the mind, and then you function on the mental plane, with this fine body just as you do on this physical plane. Through concentration, you rise above the body-consciousness; through meditation, you rise above mind; and finally through Samadhi, you realize your spiritual nature. These are three important exercises of Antaranga sadhana in the achievements of Kaivalya, the final beatitude. You can, by mere willing alone, travel to any place you like with the astral body and there materialize by drawing the necessary elements either from Ahankara or the universal storehouse, the ocean of Tanmatras. The process is very, very simple to occultists and Yogis who know the rationale, the detailed technique of the various operations. Thought reading and thought-transference too can be quite easily performed by those who can function with the astral body. Concentrated mental rays can penetrate opaque walls, just as X-rays pass through the opaque body. This is one of the Siddhis (mystical perfections). Siddhis are not the goal of life. Do not entangle yourself in these Siddhis which mar your further spiritual progress. Shun them entirely. Continue your Sadhana and stop not till you reach the goal. Movement of the Mind After a short practice of meditation you will feel that the body gets lighter in a short time, say fifteen or thirty minutes after you have taken your seat on Padma, Siddha or Sukha Asana according to your taste and temperament. You may be semiconscious of the body and surroundings or you may become quite unconscious of the body. There is a great deal of happiness owing to concentration. This is happiness resulting from concentration which is quite distinct from sensual pleasure. You must be able to differentiate these two pleasures through the intellect, renderedsubtlebyconstantmeditation. Dharana (concentration) and Dhyana (meditation) have a power to sharpen the intellect. A trained intellect can comprehend subtle, philosophical and abstruse problems beautifully well. A disciplined intellect that can carefully differentiate the happiness
  • 25. Karma 23 derived from concentration and that of sensual objects will naturally run daily to enjoy this kind of new happiness derived from concentration. Such a mind will loathe at sensual pleasures. There will be extreme detesting abhorrence and positive aversion to objects. It is but natural. Because this kind of happiness is more lasting, sustained, self-contained and real as it emanates from the Atma (spirit soul). You can distinctly feel that the mind is moving, that it is leaving its seat in the heart, and that it is trying to go to its Yatha Sthana (original seat). You know that it has left its old groove and is now passing on a new avenue. As a result of meditation, new channels are formed in the brain, new thought- currents are generated, new brain cells are formed. There is a transformed psychology altogether. You have got a new brain, a new heart, new feelings, new sentiments, new emotions and new sensations. Anahata Sounds:The Mystical Internal Sounds Heard During Meditation Anahata sounds are the mystic sounds heard by the Yogi at the beginning stage of his meditation. This subject is termed Nada-Anusadhana, an enquiry into the mystic sounds. This is a sign of purification of the Nadis due to the practice of Pranayama. The sounds can also be heard after the uttering of the Ajapa Gayatri mantra, “Hamsah Soham’, one hundred thousand times. The sounds are heard through the right ear with or without closing the ears. The sounds are distinct when heard through closed ears. The ears can be closed by introducing the thumbs in the ear through the process of Yoni- Mudra. Sit in Padma or Siddha Asana. Close the ears with right and left thumb and hear the sounds very attentively. Occasionally you can hear the sounds through the left ear also. Practice to hear through the right ear only. Why you hear through the right ear only or hear distinctly through the right ear is because of the influence of the solar Nadi, Pingla. The anahata sound is also called omkara Dhvani. It is due to the vibration of prana in the heart.
  • 26. Karma 24 Guruji Sri Selvam Before the beginning, the Brahman (absolute reality) was one and non- dual. It thought, “I am only one -- may I become many.” This caused a vibration which eventually became sound, and this sound was Om. Creation itself was set in motion by the vibration of Om. The closest approach to Brahman is that first sound, Om. Thus, this sacred symbol has become emblematic of Brahman just as images are emblematic of material objects. The vibration produced by chanting Om in the physical universe corresponds to the original vibration that first arose at the time of creation. The sound of Om is also called Pranava, meaning that it sustains life and runs through Prana or breath. Om also represents the four states of the Supreme Being. The three sounds in Om (AUM) represent the waking, dream and deep sleep states and the silence which surrounds Om represents the “Turiya” state. Because the first of the three states of consciousness is the waking state, it is represented by the sound “A” pronounced like “A” in accounting. Because the dream state of consciousness lies between the waking and the deep sleep states, it is represented by the letter “U” which lies between the “A” and “M”. This “U” is pronounced like the “U” in would. The last state of consciousness is the deep sleep state and is represented by “M” pronounced as in “sum.” This closes the pronunciation of Om just as deep sleep is the final stage of the mind at rest. Whenever Om is recited in succession there is an inevitable period of silence between two successive Oms. This silence represents the “fourth state” known as “Turiya” which is the state of perfect bliss when the individual self recognizes his identity with the supreme. The Symbol Om Just as the sound of Om represents the four states of Brahman, the symbol Om written in Sanskrit also represents everything. The material world of the waking state is symbolized by the large lower curve. The deep sleep state is represented by the upper left curve. The dream state, lying between the waking state below and the deep sleep state above, emanates from the confluence of the two. The point and semicircle are separate from the rest and rule the whole. The point represents the turiya state of absolute consciousness. The open semicircle is symbolic of the infinite and the fact that the meaning of the point can not be grasped if one limits oneself to finite thinking. The Power of Chanting Om 1.The chanting of Om drives away all worldly thoughts and removes distraction and infuses new vigour in the body. 2.When you feel depressed, chant Om fifty times and you will be filled with new vigour and strength. The chanting of Om is a powerful tonic. When you chant Om, you feel you are the pure, all pervading light and consciousness.
  • 27. Karma 25 3.Those who chant Om will have a powerful, sweet voice. Whenever you take a stroll, you can chant Om. You can also sing Om in a beautiful way. The rythmic pronunciation of Om makes the mind serene and pointed, and infuses the spiritual qualifications which ensure self- realization. 4.Those who do meditation of Om daily will get tremendous power. They will have lustre in their eyes and faces. Meditation on Om Retire to a quite place, sit down, close your eyes and completely relax your muscles and nerves. Concentrate on the space between your eyebrows and quieten and silence the conscious mind. Begin to repeat “Om” mentally while associating the ideas of infinity, eternity, immortality, etc. You must repeat Om with the feeling that you are the infinite and all-pervading. Mere repetition of Om will not bring the desired result. Keep the meaning of Om always at heart. Feal Om. Feel that you are the pure, perfect, all-knowing, eternal, free, Brahman. Feel that you are absolute consciousness and the infinite, unchanging existance. Every part of your body should powerfully vibrate with these ideas. This feeling should be kept up all day long. Practice regularly and steadily with sincerity, faith, perseverance and enthusiasm in the morning, midday and evening. Mantras There are many mantras used in worship. The first is always the Moola Manthirum. This mantra forms the foundation which supports all the others. It was not written by a person but was given to us directly from Amma Herself in Her oracle. This mantra has enormous power. Some of the benefits conferred by reciting the Moola Mantra are: 1.The Divine energy freely flows from the feet of Amma to the different systems of the body. The holy vibrations penetrate all the cells and revitalize the entire system. 2.Eradication of one’s Karma. 3.Gives you what you rightfully deserve. 4.Helps solve ailments and genuine problems. 5.Confers blessings leading to prosperity and a happy life. 6.Helps one to reach the highest spiritual pedestal (Mukti). 7.Prevents fatal accidents. Each type of pooja or velvi has specific mantras which are recited at a certain time during the ritual. The long mantras have either 108 or 1008 lines and are concluded with a short mantra of three lines and three om’s. The mantras recited during mandram pooja in America are shown below. Amma has given us permission to omit the 1008 line mantra which is normally recited because She says we are so busy and have little time. All mandrams in India, however, recite the 1008 as is normally required. The number 108 has been considered sacred for thousands of years in India. The origin of this number probably lies in astronomy. The average distance from the sun and moon to the earth is 108 times each of their respective diameters. This is true to an accuracy of 0.5% for the Sun and 2% for the Moon. The thought that this was known so long ago is amazing. Like all tantric mantras each line is preceded by om and concluded with om. These characteristics give the mantras great potency

  • 30. Karma 28 -By Jyotish Samrat His Holiness Swamiji Sri Selvam Siddhar Marriage is an important event in our life. It brings along with it a sense of maturity, responsibility and completeness. It contributes towards the enhancement of social status of a person after marriage. Before deciding when the native will get married, so many factors have to be taken into consideration. The most important factor deciding the time of marriage is Venus apart from Jupiter. To predict the time of marriage, one should have to consider the period of marriage i.e., early, average or late, the Dasha, Antardasha etc., and the transit of planets favorable for marriage. If jupiter is placed natally between the Libra and Pisces rashis, generally marriage will take place only after 30 years. As far as female natives are concerned, the 8th house, or its Lord and the planet located in the 8thhouse play a vital role in marriage aspect. During marriage jup usually transits over or aspects the house 1st ,2nd ,5th , 7th , 9th and 10th from Moon or Lagna, crosses the natal jup, venus or the present Dasa lord in Rashi. Early marriage will take place according to various texts under the following conditions: 1. Ven is placed in Karkataka Rasi, Sagitt. or Pisces Rashi. 2. Ven positioned in an angle, while the lord of the Lagna is placed in 7th house. 3. Ven in an angle in opposition to Saturn 4. Strong Ven in lagna, 2nd , 7th or 11th house. 5. The Moon may indicate date of marriage by influencing one of four conditions mentioned above by positioning or aspect. Regarding the marriage of the female natives, 8th house, its lord and the planet located in the 8th house, plays an important role for marriage. Important Tips: Predicting time of marriage is a very tricky question, which worries the parents about their son/daughter. In such cases the Astrologer should check yogas that confer marriage, planetary conditions at birth and in transit, dasha and antra dasha etc. The following points should also be considered. 1. IfAscendant rashi of a Navamsha chart falls in 7th house of birth chart and 7th lord is in 12th from Ascendant, marriage will take place between 16 and 20 years of age. 2. When 2nd house is occupied by Venus and 7th lord is in 11th house, marriage is between 23 and 28 years of age. 3. When 2nd lord is in 11th and Lagna lord is in 10th house, marriage may occur between 17 and 20 years of age. 4. When Venus is in Kendra houses and 7th lord is posited in any house owned by Saturn, aspected by a benefic, marriage age is 23 to 28 years. 5. If 2nd lord is posited in 11th house and 11th lord in 2nd house, marriage will be between 16 and 25 years of age. 6. When 7th house is occupied by Venus, Moon and Saturn, the marriage will not be possible before 30 years of age. It may be the 35th year. 7. If Sun is in 7th, and 7th lord cojoins Venus in Kendra, marriage is possible within 23 to 25 years of age. • 34. Karma 32 H.H Swamiji Sri Selvam Siddhar Marriage is very important Sanskar (occasion) in which a boy and a girl get married with each other and starts their married life socially and enter into Grahast Jeevan. Before marriage most of the families consult an astrologer for Matching of the Horoscopes of the boy and the Girl. The Vedic system ofAstrology has in it an age old traditional Horoscope Matching or Kundli Matching system in which Gunas are matched on the basis of Janama Nakshatra of the Boy and Girl and points are given for various descriptions. These descriptions are eight in number. 1.Varna (Mental Compatibility): 1 point It shows the basic potential of a person and the person’s inherent skills and abilities. This also includes the personal egos of both partners and compatibility between their egos. For best adjustment, the difference of Varna between the two should be minimal. 2.Vashya (Dominant Compatibility): 2 points Vashya means ones control or domination over the other. It reflects who will be the more dominant partner between the two prospective partners. The purpose of check is to avoid any chances of confrontation between the two. 3.Tara (Intensity of Relatiomship Compatibility): 3 points It indicates the health, well-being and compatibility of the partners after marriage and is done on the basis of Janam Nakshatra of both. 4.Yoni (Physical & Sexual compatibility): 4 points It shows sexual and biological compatibility between the two. It also shows mutual love and sexual inclinations of the partners. 5.Graha-Maitri (Psychological Disposition Compatinbility): 5 points It is used to assess the nature and temperament of both. It also shows
  • 35. Karma 32 one’s attitude, objective, and intellectual level. It shows progeny prospects, mental qualities and mutual affection between them. 6.Gana (Compatibility of Nature): 6 points It is used to compare the general traits of ones behavior which is determined by an individual nature and indicates the compatibility of temperament and mutual daily behavior, for happiness and prosperity in their lives. 7.Bhakoot (Mutual Compatibility): 7 points This is a crucial test to check overall prosperity in the growth of family, family welfare and economic prosperity after marriage. 8.Nadi (Compatibility between Life Forces): 8 points It is the most important in Matching as it has maximum number of points. Nadi or pulse is the central point and indicator of nervous energy on which an individual health and nature depends. This test also measures the genetic compatibility between the couple to produce healthy progeny after marriage. CONCLUSION: Each of these factors has its own significance and have their own number of points. These all combine together to make up 36 points or GUNAS. If a couple scores has less than 18 then the match is not considered a good match according to traditional Astrology. If the score is between 18 - 24, then the match is acceptable (Average). If the score is between 25 – 32, then the match is very good (Above Average). If the score is above 32 then technically the match is excellent but a lot of other factors have to be checked out. Below are the points which should be kept in mind before Match Making: 1. Longevity of both, Boy & Girl from their respective Horoscopes 2. Strength of the horoscope on marriage point of view 3. • 36. Karma 34 Swamiji Sri Selvam Siddhar “There are seven schools of Indian philosophy, ranging from extreme materialism, where nothing but matter fills the universe, to extreme spiritualism, where matter is a mere shadow of spirit. The Samkhya and Yoga schools are midway be tween these. Interestingly, these two are complementary: the Yoga school deals with the practical steps of achieving liberation from all human imperfections and suffering, while the Samkhya school provides the philosophical doctrines within which the existence of these imperfections and suffering are to be understood. “The Samkhya school was founded by the sage Kapila around 600 BCE and admits of two realities: Purusha, or Ultimate Consciousness. and Prakrti, or Elemental Matter. The manifest universe is an evolution of Prakrti resulting from the melding of Purusha and Prakrti, that is, Matter being permeated by Consciousness. This evolution occurs both in the macrocosm -- the universe as a whole -- and the microcosm -- mankind. Yoga bases its teachings on this evolution of mankind. It concerns itself with the practical aspects not of reversing this evolution but instead of bringing about an involution: how mankind can be led by an inner path from manifest body and mind to Ultimate Consciousness. “The principal teaching of Yoga is that mankind’s True Nature is Divine. Man is unaware of this True Nature and, instead, falsely identifies with his body and his intellect ¬- both of which are comprised of Prakrti and hence are subject to death and decay. All of mankind’s misery is therefore a consequence of this false identification. Yoga leads to realization of the True Self, and with such realization comes liberation from all human imperfection. There are many paths to realization of the True Self, just as there are many spokes from the rim of a wheel to its center. “Yoga” is used here in a generic sense for all of these different paths, of which the four principal are Karma Yoga -- the yoga of action Bhakti Yoga -- the yoga of devotion Jnana Yoga -- the yoga of knowledge or discrimination Atharva Vedic Raja Yoga -- the Royal Path through Atharva Vedic Rituals and Practice “Raja Yoga encompasses the teachings of all the different paths. Raja Yoga concerns itself with three dimensions or realms: the physical, the mental and the spiritual. Through practicing Raja Yoga methods, one achieves mastery of all three realms and is thus led to the full realization of the Self.
  • 37. Karma 35 “The teachings of Raja Yoga go back many thousands of years, and little is known of their origin. They are considered to be Revealed Teachings of Divine Origin. The sage Patanjali, who lived somewhere between 200 BCE and the 4th century CE, systemized and codified these teachings into 196 Sutras or aphorisms which were made as brief as possible to facilitate their memorization and oral transmission. The first commentaries on the Sutras date from the 4th century CE. “Patanjali’s “Yoga Sutras” are organized into four padas or chapters. The first deals with Samadhi, the blissful state of Self- realization; the second with the practical means of achieving this goal; the third with the Siddhis, or powers, that manifest in the successful practitioner of Raja Yoga; and the last with Kaivalya, or liberation. It is the practical means of achieving Samadhi through Raja Yoga that is called Astanga_ Yoga, the Eight-fold (or Eight-limbed) Path. “The eight angas, or limbs, are Yama, Niyama, Asana, Pranayama, Pratyahara, Dhrana, Dhyana and Samadhi. The first five of these limbs are considered the “external” limbs; the last three, “internal”. We will consider each of these briefly. “The Yamas, or prescriptions (“what you should do”), and the Niyamas, or proscriptions (“what you should not do”), constitute the moral code of Yoga and help one cultivate the right mental attitudes. “The Asanas, or postures, aim at physical well-being and control over the body. A healthy body is a prerequisite for a healthy and controlled mind. “Pranayama is control of Prana, or the Life Force. Such control is achieved through control of the most crude manifestation of Prana: the breath. One can control the mind only if s/he can control her/his breathing. “Pratyahara is withdrawal of the senses and is necessary if one is to achieve tranquility of the mind. “Dhrana is attention and concentration which brings the diffuse mind to a single point of focus. Prolonged Dhrana leads to a state of . . . “Dhyana, or meditation, characterized by a one-pointedness of mind. Prolonged Dhyana leads to . . .”Samadhi, the state of Self-realization. The mind is transcended, and one becomes aware of the Self and is united with It. This state is characterized by Sat-Chit- Ananda, or Existence-Consciousness- Bliss: one has merged with Ultimate Consciousness which is Ultimate Reality. “Raja Yoga is, therefore, a systematic and scientific discipline that leads to Ultimate Truth. Most religions teach one what to do, but Raja Yoga teaches one how to be. Unlike most religions, it does not require unquestioning faith. Instead it encourages healthy discrimination leading to liberation. “By following the path prescribed by Atharva Vedic Raja Yoga, one can verify for himself its central hypothesis that mankind’s True Nature is Divine. It is not merely an ancient, esoteric philosophy but also a practical, systematic and scientific quest for the Infinite which is relevant and necessary in our modern times, both in the East and the West. If incorporated into modern education, it would equip mankind to deal with the conflicts, frustrations and turmoil which seem inevitable in all modern societies. Through Raja Yoga, mankind can realize its full potential for creative thought and action, transcending all human limitations and realizing its True Nature.”
  • 38. Karma 36 - Guruji Sri Selvam The questions by swamiji’s devotees and answers by our Guru Maharaj in various satsang collected “I will give satsangs about God until the day this mortal body dies. My entire life is dedicated to loving God and spreading His great message of love.” “All my satsangs are really to guide you towards experiencing Premanandam. Essentially, in order to go deep within yourself and find this lovely flower, you have to limit your material desires and start up a relationship with the Divine. If you practise these ideas, you will definitely start out well on the path to experience divine bliss.” •Swamiji Selvam Siddhar What is a Guru? Who ever teaches Brahma Gyan (Knowledge to reach God - The Supreme power) is a Guru or Spiritual Master. A Spiritual Guru is the external manifestation of God. He is the personification of Veds. He is empowered by the Lord to deliver the conditional Souls. Sometimes the Lord Himself becomes the Spiritual Master like Krishna, who showed Arjun his original form. Are Guru and Parmatma one? Guru is the form of Parmatma. Do you talk with God? How can we know? Those who have attained such a state can know. Just as I have not learnt English and so cannot understand if someone speaks in English. Similarly those who know the language of God can only understand. What should be relationship between a true Guru and disciple? That cannot be explained through language. It can be only expressed though feelings of heart. Swamiji, Total Person like Krishna failed to satisfy his dear most friend and devotee Arjun through his words which runs through 18 chapters of GITA. Ultimately Krishna succeeds in dispelling Arjun’s doubts only by unfolding himself, exposing his universal form. Then why don’t you show us your original form? You are all my ‘Varat Swaroop’. I am there in all of you and all of you are in me. You have only to trust. The moment you develop firm faith, you will see me everywhere. Lord Krishna says in Geeta - “Everyone has to hear the fruits of his Karmas.” Can Guru save his disciple from punishment of his irreligious acts? One cannot escape from Karma-Phal. That is a universal law. Nature never changes its rules. But a Brahma Gyani, Brahma Nistha Guru can help his devotee, if his faith and devoti on to Guru is unshakeable. Suppose a person has to fall from a 7th floor of a building due to his previous Karmas. No one can save him from falling, because this is his Karma’s matured fruit. But a Mahatma, a Satguru can help the person, making him fall on some truck full of dunlop or cart carrying cotton. The person is to fall this is his Karma’s punishment. But he will be saved from hurt or injury by any means. This is Guru’s help. Your Holiness, what is difference between Atma and Parmatma? Atma and Parmatma are one and the same. The whole modern civilisation is operating on the misunderstanding that body is the self, but this is the mentality of animals as they are not having Buddhi for seif-realisation. By surrendering to Guru, what does one get? By taking the shelter of a bonafied Spiritual
  • 39. Master and obeying his instructions with firm faith and devotion, one gets knowledge, detachment and ultimately Liberation (Moksha). Our Vedant declares, “Destiny is irrevocable and unavoidable.” Then why one should unnecessarily bother and labour hard? It is indeed true that one would get only what is destined for him. However it behoves One to make a clear and proper distinction, between where it is appropriate to be resigned to one’s fate and where it is appropriate to exert personal effort. Securing a job is a matter of destiny, but having secured one, to sustain it with sincerity is a matter of personal efforts. To acquire or come into wealth is dictated by destiny, but how to use that wealth for a good purpose is a matter of personal choice and efforts. Whatever One is given by destiny, what one gets is his destiny; But how one uses it is his freedom of choice and efforts (Purushartha or New Karmas). Swamiji, is it true that Heaven and Hell are only on this Earth? Heaven and Hell on this earth are only samples. As per our Holy Scriptures, there are eighteen varieties of Heaven and Hells. Among them one type of each is here on this earth. They are like samples. When a trader, like a cloth merchant, comes to you to fetch order, he only brings his samples to show you. Again a grain merchant will only show Samples of grains. He does not carry his godown with him. Likewise nature has created only one sample of his Heaven and Hell here on earth. How One can live without sufferings? By simply observing without reacting. By simply examining any phenomenon objectively with equanimity, with a balanced mind. Like during meditation one feels pain in knee. Now, if he can learn just to observe the physical pain, if One can examine the sensation of pain objectively like a doctor examining someone else’s pain. Then One can see that pain itself is changing. It does not remain forever, it comes and goes, every moment it changes, but you- the observer-remain the same, unchangeable. If One understands this by personal experience, One can find that pain can no longer overwhelm and control him. Perhaps it goes away, perhaps not; but it does not matter. One cannot suffer from pain anymore, because now he observes it with detachment. When will people understand that there is only one God? Will the different religions be one in the future? Only when humankind completely understands its true nature, will all religions become one. That is why I have to give advice in order to uplift human beings. Will any enormous natural disaster happen in 2012 that will affect the whole world? Some disasters will take place in the world, such as the occurrence of the tsunami, but that is all. The world will not be destroyed. Swamiji, you raised from the dead one of your Canadian devotees and many people witnessed it. How did you do that? Shivaratri (*) is a time when everyone comes with devotion. Everyone has to die one day. However, it was not the day that this particular person was destined to die. I thought of the Divine and blessed him. It was God alone who did this. It was not me. (*) This event took place at Shivaratri – the festival night of Lord Shiva Will oil for cars, planes, ships etc. soon run out completely in the whole world? What will happen then? By the time oil resources have completely disappeared, cars will run on water. Some people have been cured even from fatal diseases after receiving Lingam blessings but this does not happen to everyone. What does it depend on? Why are some people cured and others not? There are different reasons as to why a blessing with a Shivalingam has no effect. The Shivalingam has a connection with your devotion for and faith in God. If they consider it as an ordinary happening, if it is done for money without caring or if they don’t have devotion, the healing will not take place.
  • 40. Karma 38 Another aspect is that the persons receiving the blessing may have carried very strong karma from a previous birth with them so that they cannot be healed. Will you have any great disciples in the future? I do not expect that I should have any disciples, but people who are very devoted to God will be around me. Many such people will be with me. When the soul leaves the body how long does it take before it takes another birth? How long is the period between death and another birth on average? The Itihasa scriptures (holy scriptures) and the powerful holy people known as the Siddhas, have said that it is eight years. In Christianity there are a lot of rites that are similar to Hindu ones but different from Jewish ones. For instance, the worship of the Master’s feet and the removal of sins by ablution in a sacred river. Moreover Jesus, who was a Jew, referred to God as His Father, which is not usual for the Jewish culture and the most important thing for Jesus was love towards God and other beings as it is also in the case of many Hindu saints. Does it mean that Jesus was in India during his lifetime? You could say that Jesus Christ came to India or that he came and went. Or, instead, you could say that all religious rites are one and that Jesus Christ taught through his wisdom. This is my point. We accept that he came as the messenger of God. We need not think that he necessarily had to come to India to get this knowledge. In the waters beneath the earth there are many living creatures co-existing in unity. Similarly, messengers who are born on earth also have the oneness of the world always in mind. In the Hebrew language a word for the Holy Spirit is a feminine word “ruah” and it is symbolized by a dove in the Gospels. Jesus and his disciples bestowed their power of the Holy Spirit on other disciples by putting their hands on disciples’ heads and then they obtained different powers such as the power to heal others. Obtaining the Holy Spirit is often illustrated as flames of fire above the disciples’ heads. In the Hindu tradition the Master also transfers shakti (Divine feminine energy) in the same way as Jesus did and this energy is illustrated as fiery energy that rises from the bottom of the spine to the top of the head. Can we say that Divine Shakti and the Holy Spirit are two words for the same divine feminine energy? They were teaching about God’s power according to the times and circumstances. You want to compare the Holy Spirit with the Hindu Sanatana Dharma. In truth, all dharmas are the same. Finding small differences and wondering if this came from that or that came from this is like asking whether the chicken came from the egg or the egg from the chicken. What are the Akasha Chronicles and who has access to them? This has all come from the Rishis who were in great meditative states. It is through them that we have science and wisdom. . Have any of your disciples achieved enlightenment? Will your other disciples attain enlightenment in their lifetime? Enlightenment is not in my hands. I guide, advise and teach. If you have complete faith in me and follow these ways, you will definitely attain enlightenment. However, it cannot be forced into you. Becoming mature is something one has to do by oneself. You have given a mantra for meditation to some of your devotees. How does it help them in their spiritual development? Mantra is a name of God. It is a way to pray to God. Even though God is beyond name and form, using name and form to reach Him changes a person into a good human being and makes that person follow a noble path. It paves the way to live as a fine person with good thoughts. Mantras aid us in making the mind one-pointed and support the mind to go in the correct direction. Can a mantra given by you lead to the awakening of kundalini shakti in your devotees? Awakening kundalini means to make the
  • 41. Karma 39 mind one-pointed and attain a higher state of meditation. What are the stages of mantras that work inside us? Mantras are meant to create devotion in human beings. You give personal lingams to some of your devotees. What can they achieve by performing pujas to these lingams? By doing pujas you can make devotion arise in you. How should we understand the first Commandment given by God to Jewish people and confirmed later by Christ for Christians? What does the phrase “other gods” mean? Does it mean that if we were born as Christians we should not worship Allah, Lord Shiva or Lord Krishna even if we love God in these forms? Most saints say that it is only one God so how we should understand this Commandment? In the Bible Jesus says that there is one God and that you should pray to Him only. According to his teaching there is a being beyond us, which is God, but Jesus himself is not God. That is his teaching. Who is following his teachings nowadays? Nobody understands and follows his spiritual ideas. The same situation has arisen with regard to Buddha’s and Mohammed’s teachings; it has happened to all the spiritual teachers. None of these people ever proclaimed themselves to be God. They were all avatars sent by God; they were not God. That is what Jesus says in the Bible. So who is God? The answer is that He is nameless and formless, beyond us, and called ‘The Father’. Some people call that Father Shiva; others call Him Vishnu or Muruga or Vinayakar or Divine Mother… Jesus did not reject any name that was used for Him. He only said that he (Jesus) was not God. In these spiritual questions we talked about God’s messengers. Avatars, incarnations of the Divine, are sent by God to the earth. These are God’s own people and it is rarely that such beings, only one or two, come in this way. The power of God reveals itself in such beings from their childhood. They also face much sorrow and opposition. There are also those who follow the spiritual path, mature through it and then have disciples to teach spirituality to. There are still others who have full faith in a spiritual master, accept that Guru’s words, learn spirituality through them and attain a mature state of being. There are many stages of spirituality. They are taught at different levels and through different methods. You are asking your questions thinking that all the stages are the same. I am unable to stay at your level and give replies, but if I reply to your questions from the state of Truth, you cannot understand it. I know the replies you are expecting. I find the reply in your questions. If the question is incorrect, the reply will also be wrong. You might expect that I will give this wrong reply, but I cannot do so and my reply that I give for your wrong question will look wrong to you. What can I do? In spirituality there are many states. One is that there is a supreme force, which is beyond us, that sends a person to this world and is doing its work through that person. Another is when one is born into this world and receives the power from the Divine at a certain stage. Yet another is when one turns away from worldly pleasures and tries to know that supreme power through spiritual practice, making the mind one-pointed. Then, whatever one has realized through striving and then through experience, is again another state. There are many such levels with regard to the state of spirituality. Avatars, Siddhas, Rishis, saints, seekers, those enlightened through devotion to Shiva, people full of Divine grace, devotees and so on. In this way one could put everyone in some category. However, if you put everyone in the same category and then ask questions, how can I guide you?
  • 44. Karma 42 Be inspired by Swamiji’ Sri Selvam Siddhars words... His Teachings “Ask yourself, what is the truth? Why was I born? How long will I live? What am I going to do? Where will I be ultimately? If you were to seriously contemplate such things you would realise the truth.” “It is not important to believe in God, or to believe in what I or anybody else tells you, but believe yourself, believe your own heart, be courageous and fearless. Otherwise you cannot do anything and cannot reach anywhere, neither in the world nor on the spiritual path.” “The way to become selfless is to think of others always and to take care of others.” Love & Inner Peace “The easiest way to come close to God is through love. True love is the absolute, ultimate sweetness transcending all that is earthly. There is nothing higher. True love is God.” “Your mind should become peaceful in order to progress.” “If we can see the divine love that exists in everything, everywhere, we can love all beings in the world and only then can we truly do something good in this world. The heart will become a spring of love and every being will be seen as the Divine.” “Reach that nice stage – not reacting to anything that goes on around you. Be completely centered in your Self. Nothing else should disturb you.” “Say, “It doesn’t matter” and take it easy. Make a cup of tea and relax.” Universality “When a child is born, does it feel superior or different from others? Is it conscious of its religion or caste? It is the family and the environment that determine caste, creed and status and it is they who install these separations in the mind of the child. Yet in the presence of the Divine these differences have no meaning.” “The ideas expressed in all religions are, to a great extent, in harmony. No matter to what religion we belong, we must accept the fact that there is only one supreme reality in all religions. Our aim is to reach this reality and not to worry about how many religions and paths there may be.” “If we accept that we all emanate from one great source of energy then only will we realize the essential unity of humankind.” Service “There is much work to be done in this world. Let us be active. Let’s not talk too much and let us do something! True service is done selflessly, with love, humbleness and patience, and without pride. In order to really give true service
  • 45. Karma 43 we have to work on ourselves to acquire such virtues and learn to give without expecting anything in return.” “Divinity is within you. Likewise, remember that the same spark of the divine is there within all other living beings. By doing service to them you are serving God.” “We should never miss a chance to serve others whenever we can.” The World “Today’s world has become caught up in illusion and desire. Human beings must start to purify themselves and look after their fellow men and other creatures according to the eternal laws of wisdom. If they would share their wealth with the poor wisely and replace selfishness with compassion, there would be little suffering in this world. Each one of us is responsible for the future of the planet and the growth of the message of truth.” “If you change yourself determinedly and full of confidence into a beautiful and noble person, the vibrations of your good thoughts will radiate from you towards society. If you are filled with compassionate and selfless thoughts, then slowly human society will change and be uplifted.” “Everything is one and God is one.” “If you want to meditate you have to be able to relax and take it easy. No tension. You have to manage with the way things are. Do your best but don’t get excited.” The Master’s Presence “One may learn quickly from evolved people who are themselves immersed in devotion and who have love in their hearts. I am not saying you cannot continue alone but it is a question of time. If you find a true guide and learn from him it may be possible to learn everything in this very birth! If you have much time and endless patience, you can carry on learning from your worldly experiences, but it will probably take you many lives.” “God’s grace flows through the saint like a natural spring. The obstacles to receiving it are with in you. Silently, the saint guides you towards the Divine. He teaches you and leads you powerfully deep within your self. Through him, you can experience pure Divinity and it can become a real experience for you.” “The Master shows you the path to your true heart. He allows you to taste the bliss of absolute freedom.” True Happiness “All the wealth in the world can never give you true happiness but it can give you unbearable pressures, difficulties, confusions pain and disease. We are all searching for happiness, in one way or another, but do not realise that it lies within ourselves.” “Whether you are working, giving service or practising sadhana - whenever you meet with some difficulties, look sincerely and deeply into yourself and you will find the origin of your problems right there within yourself .” “Remember, the only way you can really be free is to belong to the Supreme, totally. That is what I mean by absolute happiness, Anandam!” “Don’t worry – be happy!” .
  • 46. Karma 44 Various Excerpts from Swamiji Sri Selvam Siddhar’s satsang ( From Ganesh Chaturthi 2014 Satsang) Om Namashivaya!! If you pray to Lord Ganesha wholeheartedly, He will appear and give you His darshan. Vinayagar Chaturti is a superb day for those who wish to receive Lord Ganesha’s grace. Let them pray to Him on that day with devotion. There is a scripture called the ‘Vinayagar Kavasam’, in praise of Lord Ganesha. In it, it is said that worshipping Lord Ganesha on Ganesha Chaturti gives the same benefits as worshipping him during all 365 days of the year. Lord Vinayagar is the God to be worshipped first. He is the Lord of all types of people, who easily comes to all places, wherever you think of Him. When you pray to Him, chant His name wholeheartedly. You will receive His grace and blessings. According to the ancient tradition, people will do a Ganesha puja even before starting to build a house. When they want to open that new house, they will perform a Ganapati homam (fire ceremony) and thereby open the house. This is the ancient way of doing everything after first worshipping Lord Ganesha through poojas. Whether they wanted to conduct a ceremony, have an auspicious function or a special pooja, from ancient times it has been a belief amongst the people that they should first worship Lord Ganesha and then only start anything. On this day, according to each person’s possibilities, they give offerings to Lord Vinayagar and pray to Him, who appears and fulfills their requests and wishes. Let us pray to Lord Ganesha, who is the first God for all activities, on this auspicious Vinayakar Chaturti day and be happy to receive His grace for our wishes to be fulfilled. Excerpts from Happy New Year 2014 Satsang Om Namashivaya!! I thought of sharing a message of love with you all for the New Year. Let us give everyone the opportunity to be good. There may be people who did not do anything wrong; there may be some people who make mistakes knowingly or unknowingly; there may be some who made mistakes because of their situation; there may be people who make mistakes continuously without changing themselves. There are many different kinds of people in today’s world. Don’t think that these people should be shunned by our society and don’t keep away from them. If you would talk with them you would see that the reason for their mistake is not a wrong one. It may be wrong according to the law. But, if you want to see everyone in society as pure, good people, then you need love. Since we don’t have close relationships with some people, who are in poverty, in difficulties, who don’t see any development in their lives, who are worried and depressed, and we avoid them, they make mistakes, thinking that they should get rid of all this and live happily. They do this without understanding, without knowing that these small or big mistakes are mistakes and, without knowing their affect, they think only of that day’s happiness. After making the mistakes they realize them and are very worried and then, when society also shuns them and no one talks to them lovingly, they come into a situation that makes them repeat the same mistakes. To correct them you should talk and behave with them lovingly. Help them in the way you can. Tell your advice lovingly. Then you can make them completely eliminate that tendency of making mistakes. The law has made many innocent people who did not do anything wrong, into convicts. They plan, they create victims and the documents to support their claim and, using all this, they convict them. Because of this we may think of them as criminals, but their conscience tells them they are innocent. When you shun them, their mind leads them to make mistakes. They will think there is no benefit
  • 47. Karma 45 for them in being a good person. Instead of researching whether he is a good or a bad person, we should help everyone in whichever way we can without expecting anything and with a good heart. We can give each and every one the opportunity to become a good person. Believe that this chance that we give them will definitely make them a good person. Wherever we are, whatever situation we are in, whatever difficulties we are undergoing, we should understand the rules and regulations of that place and we should act accordingly and live as good people. Our life won’t last for one hundred years. As long as it lasts, we should live as good people for our own sake and we should also take care that we live in a way that won’t trouble anyone else, no matter where we are. Let us think of good, do good, live as good people and talk in a good way. Excerpts from Guru Purnima 2014 Satsang Om Namashivaya!! Once every 365 days Guru Purnima comes round. From the time this world was created until now, the teachings of the guru have been the reason for human beings having attained a high state. When children study in school the teacher who lovingly teaches them there is called a guru. A person who teaches someone a profession is also called a guru. A person who teaches politics is also called a guru. Even doctors who treat patients in a hospital have been taught meticulously how to do that and the one who did that is also a kind of guru. Therefore, having a guru is very essential for all types of practices. However, this day is a sacred day that we joyfully celebrate to give respect to the one who teaches spirituality, to remind ourselves of his or her teachings, points of view and advice. We do this by thinking of all these Gurus full of divine grace, or by thinking only of our own Guru. In a spiritual context, this day is called Guru Purnima. We perform the puja on Guru Purnima to think about the teachings of the Guru and to get rid of any bad habits we may have so that we can reach a high state. All those teachers whom you think of as a spiritual Guru during this puja will be with you on this Guru Purnima day. Since ancient times it has been a great Vedic belief that their divine power will be strongly present. When you call out to them with a true heart that divine power will reveal its presence. Thinking about their teachings and realizing them with all your heart – this is the real, great Guru Purnima puja. We just pray for the grace of all the siddhas, the great saints and avatars but, really, what is important is to accept their teachings and follow them. Nowadays the reason that human society goes to get the darshan of saints, avatars and siddhas is to obtain release of their day-to-day problems, difficulties and worries and they expect to receive their grace. This is like thinking about small matters within a circle of selfishness. Our birth, this human birth, is a rare and elevated one. However, we are not using this birth to take the necessary steps in order to wholly accept their grace, blessings and teachings. We don’t make ourselves mature, develop spiritually or immerse ourselves in that wisdom and attain that blissful happiness in a permanent way. We are only devoted to solving our day-to-day problems and difficulties and involving ourselves in this with all our heart. Guru Purnima is a day that, through the teachings of the Gurus, paves the way for us to do sadhanas that lead to unwavering peace of mind and equal bliss. What we should understand on this Guru Purnima is that only their teachings will guide us in the correct way towards a high spiritual state. The teachings are essential. We should follow them. Good will happen. My special blessings are with you all on this Guru Purnima.
  • 48. Karma 46 •H.H Swamiji Sri Selvam Siddhar A human being does not come to earth to live for hundreds of years. He may live for possibly 80, 90 or 100 years. What wealth does he have? His true wealth is his body. The body is the most precious wealth you possess, not the wealth of money, land or property and so on. You need to ask yourself - did you become selfish because of love for your body? How did you become selfish? Why should you be a selfish person? Why should selfish thoughts arise in the mind? The reason is because of the attachment you have for worldly things. Most people are interested in running after worldly things and getting entangled in mundane matters. There is a great power and intelligence beyond us that activates all. First, you have to accept this. This power is what I refer to as Divinity. Divinity lives within all beings. Genuine service that you do for Divinity should be selfless service. If you are to do selfless service you have to forget your individuality and not act on the basis of “I” or the ego. What belongs to you in this world? What is “I”? What is mine? Is your wife or husband yours? Are the children yours? Is your house yours? What is there, that can truly be called “yours.” Evenyourbodyisnotyours.Selfishness comes because you attach your mind to the house, to your wife, your husband, to your children and many other things in the world. Because there is a strong attachment and liking to all these things, the feeling of selfishness creeps into you. That selfish attitude develops in you and becomes stronger as you cling to the material world. The time will come when you realize that nothing really belongs to you. Everything is the creation of the Divine. When this time comes, you can do true selfless service. How can you reach this state of mind? You need to change yourself. Instead of thinking that things are yours, change your way of thinking. Regard everything as belonging to the Divine.
