University of Oregon and his student, Phil Knight on 1964. Initially
the company was named as Blue Ribbon Sports (BRS). The
company was named as Nike, Inc. officially on May 30, 1978 after

track running shoes. In the beginning the company (BRS)
functioned as a distributer for Japanese shoe maker Onitsuka
