Talk Track: Have you heard of Game Ready? It has revolutionized rehab in the professional, college and high school sports arenas. Many trainers and therapists around the world are using this new technology in the Physical and Occupational Therapy markets. Game Ready is an advanced system that combines adjustable cold and compression therapy. It is effective for your patients that you’re treating for edema, pain or inflammation. This system is a powerful recovery tool and an easy-to-use treatment option for soft tissue injuries and post-surgical care.”
Game Ready has it’s roots in sports injury rehab where it is vitally important for world-class athletes to get back on the field again as quickly as possible. Brian Maxwell a world class runner knew first hand how important cold and compression was following a race…and at the time the standard of care was to sit completely in a bath of ice water. After he developed PowerBar, he was looking for his next challenge and took over the reigns of Game Ready. He knew immediately how effective the Game Ready system was. The Game Ready system has been used by World Class athletes and weekend warriors alike…and in 2008 alone it was estimated that over 60,000 people benefitted from the cold and compression technology.
Who is using Game Ready…just about every pro and collegiate team in the US and many, many teams and players in Europe. Weather recovering from injury or surgery, Game Ready is used everywhere from Ultimate Fight Club to the San Francisco Ballet to patients recovering from orthopedic surgery. NOTE: IT MIGHT BE POSSIBLE TO CUSTOMIZE THIS SLIDE WITH THE NAMES AND POSSIBLY LOGO OF LOCAL SPORTS TEAMS.
Traditional Rice therapies are not as effective because they can’t control the temperature, don’t fully cover the injured area and MOST IMPORTANTLY, they don’t provide intermittent compression. Intermittent compression is crucial to mimic and enhance the bodies normal process of relieving edema and reducing swelling. ALSO, other “Blue Bucket” therapies only provide static compression and many don’t do a good job of circulating cold through the wrap. Many rely just on gravity feed which is not as effective.
Note the upper left picture of a knee using Game Ready. The dark blue indicates the coldest temperature. It is also the most consistently dark blue indicating the best coverage. Compare this to the Cryocuff and a gel pack. Even 30 minutes after the Game Ready wrap is removed the leg still shows the effects of cooling.
HOW TO USE THE GRAPHS ABOVE: First, Cold and active compression: Stimulates tissue healing Optimizes lymphatic drainage Increases blood flow and delivery of oxygen to the injury site Aids in prevention of edema formation The blue line above is a competitive “blue bucket” technology. In this study, immediately after surgery, the patients treated with the Durakold experienced reduced Range of Motion. In other words, they got worse after surgery but then after about the second week, they started to see reduced swelling, edema and improved ROM. By contrast, the red line (Game Ready) patients did not get worse after surgery indicating that their edema, swelling etc. was better controlled by cold and intermittent compression. They also improved faster and got to the optimum (0 degrees ROM extension) faster than competitive products.
Points to consider when discussion ROI with a customer: Insert reimbursement disclaimer here! Game Ready has the potential to change the way you do business. For instance, Game ready could potentially: Increase revenues Generate referrals - “What is a new patient worth?” Can treat one patient with system while you are treating another patient personally Improve your marketing to your referral sources and the community Plus there are intangible returns on your investment: What is it worth if you can accelerate patient outcomes? How much is a satisfied patient worth to your business if s/he tells others about your clinic? How important is being perceived as cutting edge when you market your practice and clinic to new referring physicians? How important is a system like Game Ready when you go to market your practice to high schools and the community?
NOTE: DO A DEMONSTRATION. PUT A ELBOW WRAP ON THE CUSTOMER (MAXIMUM COLD, MEDIUM PRESSURE) AND KEEP ASKING THEM IF THEIR ARM IS COLD. Leave the wrap on their arm for as long as they will allow. A few minutes after the wrap is removed, ask if their arm is still cold. It will be and this is a great chance to talk about faster, deeper, longer cooling.
The patented wrap technology is what makes Game Ready different. Developed by NASA to efficiently cool astronauts, the technology is highly effective in removing heat from an injured area. The duel chamber design also allows air to be used to provide compression. The wrap is comprised of two parts. First the inner heat exchanged is used to circulate the cold water and is used to provide compression. The second part; the outer sleeve, can be cleaned and reused up to 60 times before being replaced. (NOTE: NEED TO CHECK THIS NUMBER OF USES)
