17. There is a change needed We live in a material society. As designers, we have a huge impact in the future of
the world. Hence, we have to assume the responsibility to change material culture in order to achieve sustainable
ways of living.
Our responsibility
As we can influence others, we have to rethink our ways of working. Still, we have to be aware of the financial issue,
but we have to focus on the impact that our work will have on society and nature.
Changing our selves, not others
First of all, we have to start the change in ourselves. We need to get closer to society, understanding that we are part
of the problem and part of the solution. Therefore we must be open-minded and willing for life-long learning.
Different approaches for different people
We have to understand and accept that people are different. And that not everybody wants to be active to save the
world. When we are working for those who are interested in saving the world, we can demand their active
participation. When working for those who aren´t interested, we have to place our aim within the process that
happens before the client.
Step by step
We have to remember that people are looking for comfort and ease. It is necessary to change the options that people
have. So that, in the end, all the options are good for the nature and society. Making everything part of the change.
Every small design is one step closer.
