Running Head: OUTLINE 1 OUTLINE 4 Assignment 2.1 HIS 105: Contemporary U.S. History November 16, 2016 Thesis statement: Almost all the military intervention in America in the abroad countries in the name of police of the world have been met with numerous controversies just as it has been in the case of Syria and Libya. The United States of America is in most cases seen as the police of the world. This is demonstrated by the constant involvement of the country in many abroad countries using their military might to intervene in times of crisis. The intervention has however been bet with a lot of controversies as demonstrated in the two different scenarios such as in the case of 2014 intervention against the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant. There is a lot of controversies that has been met by the launching of the Syrian and American aerial attack on the ISL in Syria and Iraq. Among them include killing of children and innocent civilians that have resulted in a lot of refugees’ crisis. In the year 2011, the United States led NATO in attacking Libya that was being ruled by Gaddafi (Ronzitti, 2013). They formed a coalition of different forces including the French forces. Together, they attacked the Gaddafi forces through the ground and air attacks. This mission is full of criticism from Libya as a country. The unity and the peace that was being enjoyed during the era of Gaddafi is long gone. Instead, there are constant wars in the country. The country has not succeeded in achieving a unified government. A different faction of the teams are ever fighting, and there have been a lot of humanitarian issues including the involvement of the terror groups in the country. In fact, Libya is worse as compared to the time when it was still under Gaddafi (Ronzitti, 2013). All these actions can be traced to the new and adopted foreign policy that advocates for the protection of the human rights. In the process of invading these nations, America gave an explanation of the fact that they were coming in with the sole aim of protection of the rights of the citizens for the countries. They were to do this through the elimination of things such as terrorism and dictatorship (In Bolt, In Coletta, & In Shackelford, 2011) Aspects of the American history that has led to the rise of the U.S to the superpower since the year 1865 During the year 2001, George Bush became the president and came up with a foreign policy that is named by the missile shield that covered many parts of Europe. The missile shield was designed with the aim of countering the intercontinental missiles from Iran (The United States. 2007).
