Exploring a Broken Bone (pt.1)
Although this summer I explored nature at camp, agriculture at
Gizdich Ranch, and science at Cal Academy of Sciences, I have decided to
tell you how I broke a bone this summer. After I broke my bone, I decided
to research the procedures that my doctor did and how to take care of my
injured wrist.
On Friday, July 27th, I was staying at my grandparent’s house and we
decided to go for a walk. I didn’t really feel like walking, so I decided to
take my scooter instead. We were close to home and I did this trick where
I swerved from left to right. I
didn’t see a crack in front of me,
and the front wheel of my scooter
caught the crack and I hit the
pavement really, really hard
(apparently so hard that I broke my
wrist). My grandparents took me
inside as fast as they could, got me
some ice to put on it, and then
contacted my mom and step-dad.
At first I didn’t know what had
happened to my wrist except for
that it really hurt and that it looked
a lot different from my left wrist.
We got in the car and drove to the
closest place where I could get help.
After trying Doctors on Duty, we
ended up going to Urgent Care,
where they could take x-rays of my
wrist and put it in a small splint. (My knee was all scraped up too, so they
cleaned it up and put a bandage on it.) After looking at my x-ray, the doctor
referred me to an Orthopedic Surgeon across the street.
