Google’s Mobile 1st Search Ranking VS Your Website
1. It’s been quite a while now that Google has prioritized mobile-friendly websites. But the
search master recently announced a switch to mobile-first search engine index. Did you ever
wonder, what does this mean for your website and so hard-fought SEO rankings?

3. How does Google work?
It is an oversimplified question of how Google works, but it indicates
what Google’s mobile-first index means. Google is ranking websites
and pages by giving them a ‘score’. The higher the score, the higher
the rank on Google search results. This score is made up of many
different factors. One of these factors includes 'mobile-friendliness' of
the website.
To get these scores, Google gives out crawler bots that read web
pages. They then pass this information to Google and a search index is
generated. When you input something into Google, you are viewing a
small portion of that search index.

4. Mobile Craze
When Google started, the internet was only limited to desktop, so it
studied the web from a desktop perspective. As smartphones have
become increasingly popular today, Google has made some changes to
its algorithm. Alongside more general changes and improvements to
search, the changes have consistently favored websites that work
equally well on desktop and mobile which is also known as responsive
websites.
With over 60% of searches made through mobile devices, Google feels
the need to deliver only the best results for its mobile users. This
means a search index crawling the web from a mobile point of view
now prioritizes mobile-friendly websites, even when people perform
search on desktop

5. Where does your Website stand
in all this?
According to Google, if you already are running a fully responsive
website with the same content across mobile and desktop “you need
not change anything”.
But if you’re still running an unresponsive website or have different
desktop and mobile sites with different content, Google recommends
“you should consider making some changes.”
In other words, you’re running the risk of being left out. With 60% of
the total search share coming from mobile devices alone, this is a big
portion of your target market to miss out on.
