Essay on What is the Definition of a Hero?
What is the Definition of a Hero?
When one thinks of heroes, names such as Ghandi, Martin Luther King, and Mother Theresa often
come to mind. These people had done a lot of favors, courage, helps, and more of things for the
people who needed them. The true definition of hero is a man of distinguished valor. Bravery,
courage, intrepidity, boldness, daring, and prowess in war are a hero's characteristics. However a
hero is understood to be different to everyone. Upon closer examination, many different qualities
than these become apparent. The definition of heroism changes with the context and time. Heroes
of the past are not necessarily heroes of present time and vise versa. A person can be a hero for
saving the life of one or of millions....show more content...
Some individuals living in poverty with a determination to succeed work hard all of their lives to
become what everybody doubted they could. Despite of their financial problems, drug and crime
surroundings, or difficulties in the language skills, their desire to triumph fuels their persistence.
Those who make it to success are the few living examples of the purest form of hero anyone can
be. They are not only their own heroes but also the heroes of the poor children who dream of
becoming like them someday.
Anyone who influences anyone else by saving or helping save his or her lives can be a hero. Dr.
Martin Luther King Jr. changed the lives of millions of people by bringing justice to minorities.
Mahatma Gandhi, one of the greatest heroes, led a nonviolent revolution to free his country. Even
a parent can be a hero to his or her child by leading them in the right direction. All teachers are
heroes when they make it their job to teach a child anything that will help them in life. You don't
have to go to great lengths by risking your life to make a difference in someone else's life.
There is no discretion to become a hero. The perfect hero is one who will defy the odds. One who
will do the morally correct thing no matter how hard it is. A true hero won't let you down. A hero
will give you opportunity to worship him without regret. The hero presents himself when given the
chance, yet

heroes in the world some are kind and sweet. When you think about a hero you think about
superman or spider man but that's not a hero that can help you with your struggles. The hero that is

person that inspires others to do the right thing, and they don't depend on others to do everything for
them. Hero's in the real world are selfless, helpful, and inspires others. For example a police officer

Hero Essay About Hero
A hero can be many different types of people and have many different qualities. The
Merriam–Webster dictionary defines a hero as a person admired for achievements and noble
qualities. Tom Hanks said, "A hero is somebody who voluntarily walks into the unknown". Heroes
are strong and courageous, but they can also be quiet and work behind the scenes. Eleanor
Roosevelt once said "We do not have to become heroes overnight. Just a step at a time, meeting each
thing that comes up... discovering we have the strength to stare it down". In his novel, Eric Blehm
portrays some obvious heroes, but some of them are low key and stay behind the scenes. Throughout
the novel Fearless there are many heroes; Nathan, Savannah, Kelley, and Adam are all heroes...show

The author states on page 307 "There was no doorbell on this house– the sound haunted Kelley." She
knew that God had a purpose; the way she saw it there was no other choice but to wake up, be
there for her children, and use her trials to help others. However, before that, Kelley was Adam's
savior. She never gave up on him. When Kelley first met Adam she said "This isn't you. It's the
drug. You have so much more to offer than this, Adam Brown. You know what? I'm going to pray
for you." Kelley was resilient, even from the beginning, when others turned away she was always
there. Shawn, Adam's older brother, turned his back on Adam; Author Eric Blehm states "Shawn
was done. He wanted nothing more to do with his brother". Kelley always helped him get back on
track after a relapse or a failed rehab. After his last relapse, Kelley said "you are not going to throw
all this away. You need to be strong; we've got a family now." Without Kelley, Adam would never
have been a hero.
Adam Brown is the definition of a hero. The first part of Adam's life was very unusual. He struggled
with an addiction to drugs. Adam went from being a great kid in high school to a drug addict in
college. Of all the people in Hot Springs, no one thought that Adam Brown would become addicted
to drugs. Adam went to rehab multiple times, but sooner or later he would relapse. Adam said that
the drug "would call his name" and

Hero Essay : The Definition Of A Hero
The Definition of a Hero
A hero does not have a cape draped around their neck or a whole comic book written about them.
Instead, a hero influences others to do make the correct choices in life. A hero does not give up
simply because the challenges they are face are arduous. In addition, a hero does not need
recognition for their acts. Finally, true hero's want to help themselves and other because it is the
right thing do, not because they will have a newspaper segment on them or a spot in the daily news.
Although a true hero does not receive recognition for their acts, they continue to inspire others do do
the right thing and they never back down despite the challenges.
To start, a hero inspires others to do deeds that define them as a heroic person. For instance, Ana
fought a terrible fight against cancer but continued to inspire her family to live their lives to the
fullest. In a piece by Ana's son, Adam, he wrote, "I know she is afraid, she fights this lethal
disease every moment of everyday, and does it with a smile," (An Everyday Hero). By Ana
keeping a glowing slime on her face, it made the others around her know that although she is
terrified, she is content with her condition and knows she can not change it. Ana inspired everyone
around her until the day she passed. Moreover, Moco, a dog, that had a defect in his hind–leg that
caused that led to trail behind as he ran about. However, Moco did not let that stop him from doing
activities that every other dog would do,

Odysseus : The Ideal Hero Essay
Odysseus: The Ideal Hero Homer as given us two incredible literature masterpieces. The Iliad and
the Odyssey. The main focus will only be on one of these great works, the Odyssey. For a fresh
reminder, the Odyssey is the sequel to the Iliad. We follow the hero Odysseus on his epic journey
home after the battle of Troy. Which took him up to twenty years to reunite with his home and
family. Homers stories are rich and compelling. And it's not just the battles and romance that create
that. It's the heroes and characters around them that build the story. But we will focus on one of
these heroes and the characters around him and that's Odysseus. The main focus of this essay is to
try and explain what the ideal hero is. What is an ideal hero? What characteristics and traits make
up the ideal hero? Well there are many characteristics and traits that can make a hero. They also
change through different generations. But to some things down a little. There are three
characteristics that can easily sum up a hero of any generation. Wisdom, loyalty, and leadership.
Wisdom, loyalty and leadership are all characteristics that Odysseus needs to make him the ideal
hero. Wisdom is the number one characteristics of an ideal hero. Wisdom is what separates
Odysseus from other heroes like Achilles and Hector. Throughout the Odyssey, Odysseus encounters
battles, monsters, and gods. Each of these placing a wall in is path to getting home. But none of
them end up stopping Odysseus from doing so.

What Does It Mean To Be A Hero Essay
A Hero Throughout history and present day, heroes have shown themselves to be admirable
individuals. A hero is a person dedicated to helping people in need and improving their community
for everyone. They express valuable characteristics, such as integrity, courage, and leadership.
However, almost anyone can be a hero, including the following: a person serving the military, a
political figure, or even an ordinary person. Heroes stand for and put action towards fighting for
the morals in which they believe. While they are not regularly acknowledged for their services, our
troops are true heroes. They voluntarily risk their lives to fight for the freedom and rights that many
take for granted. In addition, our troops represent and defend the pillars on which this country was

in return. A hero can vary in appearance, values, and religion, however they all keep these altruistic
motives. In addition, their benevolent intentions are rooted from essential morals, values and beliefs,

What is a hero? The world is full of heroes, you can literally find a hero wherever you look. That
statement can be held true due to hero being a relative term. A hero can be whatever you want them
to be because it all is about perspective.
Considering that a hero is someone that is viewed differently by all people you cannot really pin too
many set qualities upon the title. One of the few universal qualities that a hero embodies is bravery,
without bravery a hero could not achieve anything above mediocre which would not qualify them
to be a hero. Another quality that a hero possesses is the ability inspire others, because in the end a
hero is someone people look up to. Even though some qualities can be listed as universal, the more
detailed and specific qualities all fall upon the eye of the beholder and the traits that they value.

Perspective is arguably everything in the sense of point of view and how we look at things. The
man who holds the door for the woman with the cane can be considered a hero by just doing that
small kind act on a consistent basis or even once . The professional athlete that a young boy watches
religiously can be considered a hero for just inspiring that young man to strive to do go out and
try to achieve his goal of one day being a pro athlete. The doctor who inspired the young woman
to wanting to keep living life with a smile on her face as she fought a deadly disease that would
eventually kill can be considered a hero in her and her family's lives just for inspiring her and
giving her life even though he could not physically save her life, the fact that he gave her hope and
was able to stop her from ending her life short with just his words is enough to make him a hero in

Definition Essay: What Is A Hero?
"What is a hero?" The word hero can mean whatever a person wants it to mean. Many people define
a role model or person they think is a hero out of their occupations. However, a person does not
become a hero because of their occupation or what they do that we envy. A hero is a person who
takes a bold step or achievement that requires courage, bravery and a kind heart to do it, and the act
is normally done for others. Heroes are not heroes out of their occupations like a doctor. For
example, a doctor's work is to save lives, so when they do this, it is what we expect of them. If a
doctor saves a drowning child from a swimming pool, he becomes a hero. The doctor demonstrates
an act of bravery and courage for the child. So a hero can be any person with or without an
occupation, who performs a bold act for others. A hero just has to be someone to sacrifice
something for others. Heroes can come from anywhere. Heroes do not have to do action acts such
as saving a person. Heroes can even be from acts of kindness. Some...show more content...
A hero goes through many difficulties in a journey that poses so many dangers of failure. Many
people in such situations would give up and turn back. However, heroes persist on despite
challenges and difficulties. Heroes are ordinary people in difficult situations that require courage and
even raise fear in them. However, they manage to overcome their fear in order to persist on until
they accomplish their mission. The difference between those who become heroes and those who do
not is their courage to face difficult situations and never giving up until they accomplish their goal.
Their courage allows them to persist on with any challenge that comes their way, despite standing a
slight chance of winning. They take up the slim chance and manage to use it to their advantage until

A Hero : The Challenges Of Being A Hero
Heroes are ordinary people who does not fly or wear super–protective suits, but inherits special traits
and qualities which kindles them to accept the call to adventure as expressed in the Greek Myths. In
Edith Hamilton's Book 'Mythology', published in 1942, several characters including Odysseus from
'The Adventures of Odysseus' and the Argonauts from 'The Quest of the Golden Fleece, demonstrates
heroism in various ways for various reasons. Eventhough, several characters find it less
challenging to be a hero due to the interventions of powerful and wise mentors, many other
characters discover that it is indeed very challenging to be a hero due the necessity of developing
crucial skills such as perseverance and courage. Heroes being ordinary people receive help from
the Gods which lightens the challenges they need to face. Otherwise, they need to possess certain
skills such as perseverance to help them pass through the obstacles. Likewise, being hero is
challenging as one needs a heart of unbreakable courage to face these daring challenges.
Although, heroism is challenging to achieve, the interference of powerful and wise mentors can
greatly clear the path to be a hero. In the myth, 'The Quest of the Golden Fleece', Medea holds up the
light that makes Jason a hero. 'All of that she did of evil and of good was done for him
alone'(Hamilton 171). The phrase, 'All of that she did', suggests the numerous number of deeds both
good and evil she did to help Jason through his

Characteristics of a Hero Essay
Characteristics of a Hero
"A hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself" (Campbell 1).
When we think of heroes most of us think of movie stars or professional athletes, but it's not
always about your popularity or talent it can also be about how you help society. What I think
make a great hero is someone who is able to overcome his or her obstacles in life, is highly
motivated, and has plenty of bravery.
Overcoming obstacles may be one of the hardest parts of being a hero. I think it's the hardest
because a lot of people are blocked from doing something and just quit. A great example of thistrait
is Jackie Robinson. He was discriminated against because he was African–American. Even though

In order to be a successful hero you must be a highly motivated person. Without motivation you
would not be very successful because you would have no ambition to try and make a difference
in the world. I think Rodney Dangerfield is a great example of this because he started he career at
just 15 and he died while he was in the middle of a movie. Also when his wife tried to make him
quit he just blew their many years of happiness and divorced her. In one of his quotes he stated, "At
twenty a man is full of fight and hope. He wants to reform the world. When he's seventy he still
wants to reform the world" (Dangerfield 3).
Bravery is a great trait for a hero to posses. I think bravery is a key quality because you don't always
know what lies ahead of you and you have to be brave to continue. A good example of this is
Charles Lindburgh. He was the first person to fly across the Atlantic Ocean. I believe that took a
great amount of bravery because no one had ever made it across, so he didn't know what lie ahead
of him. One of his many good quotes he said, "The most effective way to do it, is to just do it",
(Lindburgh 1).
So as you may see overcoming obstacles, being motivated and being outstandingly brave is key to
becoming a great hero.Like overcoming obstacles was very hard for

Winston Smith: A True Hero
The main character in George Orwell's 1948 novel, 1984, Winston Smith can be seen as many
things. To some, he may be a hero, but to others he is a coward and a fool. Throughout the novel,
Winston's characteristics are explored, and readers are shown the reasoning behind Winston's
twisted mind. It is evident that although Winston thinks he had control over his own mind and
body, this is an imagined factor. The world of 1984 is one of a totalitarian society, where no one
can be trusted, and no one is safe, Winston being the primary example of one who trusted
thoughtlessly. Winston, despite his flawed nature and his cryptic thoughts, could be seen as
somewhat of a hero, he got the girl, he found a flaw in the system, he attempted to join a rebellion

Usually heroes are strong, but some readers are more used to female heroes, where in it could be
argued that Julia is actually the main hero, in Orwell's eyes, as she is brave, headstrong and until
she met Winston, she was getting by quite well. Usually, in novels, the stronger character is the
hero, the weaker one is sometimes the love interest but foolish Winston is weak and hopeless and
is not the hero, more like the one who needs saving. Julia could effectively be the hero, as
arguably, she is the one who saved Winston. She is not a fool like Winston, but she trusts him and
that is her mistake. Winston Smith: It's not so much staying alive, it's staying human that's
important. What counts is that we don't betray each other. J: "If you mean confessing, we're bound
to do that. Everybody does. You can't help it." W: "I don't mean confessing. Confessing isn't
betrayal. I mean feelings. If they can make me change my feelings. If they can stop me from loving
you, that would be real betrayal." J: "They can't do that. It's the one thing they can't do. They can
torture you, make you say anything. But they can't make you believe it. They can't get inside you.
They can't get to your heart. " It is clear that Julia, unlike Winston actually understands the plight of

What Makes Someone a Hero Have you ever thought of a hero as someone who flies around with
superpowers and saves people from evil? Well guess what? That ain't happening. A real hero doesn't
have these things. Instead, they do good with the abilities they have. One guess about hero's qualities
is they have empathy and make efforts to do the right thing. These character qualities can be seen in
the great stories of Eddie Aikau, King Kamehameha and Father Damien.
The first and foremost example of heroes having the traits of empathy and doing the right thing can
be seen in the traits of Eddie Aikau. One piece of evidence that supports this can be found in
Source One. According to Source One it says, ''As the first lifeguard at Waimea Bay on the island of
Oahu, he saved over 500 people....'' (Mary Kawena paragraph 1). This shows that heroes are
empathetic and do the right thing because Eddie Aikau saved over hundreds of people as a
lifeguard. A second piece of evidence that supports heroes having the traits of empathy and doing
the right thing can be seen in Source One. Eddie Aikau was on a voyaging journey to Tahitian
Chain Islands on the Hokulea when the hull leaked and capsized. According to Source One, ''In
attempt to get help, Aikau paddled toward Lanai on his surfboard. Although the rest of the crew was
later rescued by the U.S Coast Guard Cutter Cape Corwin, Aikau was never

Hero Essay : What Makes A True Hero Today?
A hero is not defined by what he does, but how he acts after the fact. While many people act like
heroes every day, that isn't what defines a true hero. Staying humble and kind is how you define a
true hero. Not someone that wants recognition or something special for doing something to be
called a hero. We need heroes in today's world, it's unfortunate however, we need heroes because of
all the terrorist attacks, natural disasters and just to simply help an old woman across the street with
grocery bags. There are multiple characteristics, that make them a true hero. This is how you define a
true hero in today's world.
Bravery is important today for people who are faced with challenges that can be intimidating or
scary, but face these challenges everyday head on. Just look at some people we call heroes today.
They never shied away from the situations that made them heroes, they might have been scared,
but they had bravery. Bravery is, if not one of the most important characteristics, this entirely
defines a hero in one word. The most unbelievable part of many heroes today is that many are the
normal people wanting to make a difference in where they live or possibly the world. In some
situations, bravery is not even necessary, but many heroes still have to have it. Someone with
bravery will be risky too, or bend the known rules to make things right for a group or a majority of
people. In the news video, One Girl Changing the World, an everyday person named Malala displays

If you look up the definition of hero what comes up is, "a person, typically a man, who is admired
or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities.", and then after that is the
example, "a war hero", but that is highly debatable. Personally, I don't think there is an actual
definition of hero because everyone has a different opinion on what they think a hero is. For
example, I consider a hero is someone who is willing to risk their life for you, care about you, and
puts you before them, but when asking a friend of mine what the definition of a hero is for them
they simply said someone who saves lives. I personally think that's more of a general definition that

What it takes to be a hero Essay
The media is quick to attach the word "hero" to anyone that does a good deed. I disagree with this
because, good deeds don't necessarily make you a hero, they make you a good person. Being heroic
should come naturally. Heroes are born, not made. A hero must be courageous, kind–hearted and
humble. I understand that many people have their own view on what a hero is. People label heroes by
the things they do. Some even label people heroes just because they are famous. There is a big
difference between a role model and a hero. It was expressed best in the article, What Makes A

I personally think someone that puts others before themselves and puts themselves at risk to better
the life or situation of another is a hero. I also notice that our younger generation may be making
heroes out of the wrong types of people. When I think of a hero, the first thing that pops in my head
is the U.S. military. They constantly put their lives, families, and personal feelings on the
backburner for their mission. They risk their lives protecting not just a few people, but all of
America. Even though there are a lot of people who disagree with what they do, they continue to
protect our freedoms. I know there are a lot of people who won't agree with me but because they
believe what the military does is wrong no matter the reason. There are other people that I consider
heroes that are on a much smaller scale also. These heroes are firemen/women, policemen/women,
some teachers and social workers. Firemen will run into a burning house one more time just to save
someone's cat because it will make them happy. They put themselves in danger for the sake of
others. Police officers protect their cities even though they might not want to. They will save a
murderer if he/she is in danger just as they would save anyone else. Police officers have to earn
respect just like the military because people don't agree with what their orders are. Social workers
may not put their lives on the line but they wont hesitate to save children from abusive

What is a Hero? Essay
What is a Hero? There are many types of heroes (such as the ones in comic books, myths, movies,
or even just everyday life heroes) but all of them have perseverance when they're going through a
conflict. Heroes are role models and they're people that we look up too. They all have unique and
special qualities that make one another different from each other. For example policemen battle
crime everyday and when they're overcoming a conflict they have determination, courage and other

achievement/actions and qualities. There once was a speech made, from a man who was admired

Many of us thought he was a very inspiring and wonderful man because he had achieved his goal
by showing everyone that all of us are equal. If it weren't for him, there probably wouldn't be
different races here in the world getting along together today. Another idea of a hero was when
Gandhi had stood up for his country; India. "Gandhi led nationwide campaigns to ease poverty,
expand women's rights, and build religious and ethnic amity" plus he had "spent a number of
years in jail in both South Africa and India". In other words Gandhi never gave up showing
everyone how India should be independent. Gandhi had stood out his way by leading marches to
declare independence. Gandhi had been admired for his bravery (when he was thrown in jail a
few times), his confidence (he never showed any sign of weakness) and perseverance (he had
never gave up). Heroes are not always people who lead marches or do things for their country. For
example policemen, firefighters, nurses, lifeguards etc. are heroes everyday because they take the
time to save lives. When they're going through a challenge or trying to overcome a conflict they
always have courage. These people risk their own life to save someone else's. To be more specific
Dr. Ginger Holt from Dallas had saved a little boy's leg. She was confident and determined to finding
out what went wrong in the boy's leg and went through many procedures looking at the tests.

Examples Of Everyday Heroes
Everyday Heroes Heroes are often defined as people who fly around saving others with

Service members such as doctors, firefighters, and policemen, are regular people who will go
above and beyond to answer the call for help. One everyday person who is considered a hero are
doctors. Doctors do everything that they can to help save peoples lives. Doctors are considered
healers because they can nurse people back to health. Everyday they get new patient ions coming
into the emergency room. Many patients come into these emergency rooms with issues such as
gunshot wounds or broken ribs. Doctors do everything in their will power to help these patients by
performing surgery, giving them medicine, and much more. When it comes down to serious
situations, doctors are always mindful of the patients family. They will normally ask the family
for permission to do certain things such as brain surgery, as it is a very difficult task that could
end on either a good note or a bad note, resulting in problems such as brain damage or even death.

Courage As A Hero
When you think of a hero, you might think of a superhero who always tends to save the day by
helping out someone in need. However, this is not always the case because there are many other
things that describe a hero. A hero is not only someone who helps out others in need, but also
someone who has lots of courage. With courage comes heroic acts such as self–sacrifice, standing up
for what you believe in, and even pushing through when times become most difficult. Anyone with
courage can become a hero and perform heroic acts that will not only benefit themselves, but that
will also benefit the world; even inspiring others to do the same. People who give their life for
others are true heroes because this takes much courage. These acts of self–sacrifice are present
throughout the world. For instance, many people join the army knowing that they are putting their
life on the line, but to them this is worth all the while because they do not mind sacrificing their life
for their country and the people they hold dear. Even ordinary people are known to perform these
courageous acts of self–sacrifice; for example, there are many stories of people shielding loved
ones and strangers from gunfire, and losing their life in the act. People who stand up for what they
believe in; for the sake of themselves and others are also heroes. Standing up for what you think is
right takes much courage because there will always be many objectors trying to stop you from
making change. However,

My Hero Essay : A Hero In My Eyes
A hero in my eyes in not someone who saves you, not someone who you is the perfect citizen in
the community, not someone who is the most liked or most popular and famous. A hero in my
eyes is someone who makes you take a look at yourself, a hero is someone who makes you want
to be a better person. I know this might sound cheesy but it's the absolute truth my Hero is my
significant other, my boyfriend Jahi Woods. He has molded me into a hard working, fun loving
person that I never used to be. I'm thankful for him not just because he is my boyfriend but because
before all of the "I love you"s and all the "Goodnight"s he was and still will always be my best friend.
My first reason Jahi is my Hero is because he's been through everything you can think of, watching
someone die in his arms, being homeless, not having a christmas or thanksgiving get together, to
having three jobs his own house and paid off two brand new cars. He has such a sensible way of
handling life he has the greatest imagination his reach has no end to what he can do, he has had an
excuse for everyone else and what they had done to him but that is because he has the biggest heart
and trusts people to often and too much.
My Second reason my boyfriend is my hero is because he's kept my head up through the two and
a half years we have been together from family problems in my life to giving me advice on what I
should buy. "He's my Rock" is what I should say but i'm not in to cliches and I think that I could
sum it up all in one sentence, "I wouldn't be here today if it wasn't for him." I was depressed once
I got out of middle school and just finished ninth grade because I was bullied my entire life and I
had no sense of confidence whatsoever. Once I met him and still to this day he compliments me
probably a low guess 30 times a day.
My Third reasoning for choosing my other half is because he has molded me into a new person,
if it wasn't for him I would be a sad, depressed, self hating black wearing girl who was fat and had
no voice for herself. He helped me avoid that I know that with him I could accomplish anything. I
could rule the world with him by my side, do anything I set my mind too with him and this ring on
my finger. I now have one

Hero Essay Ideas

  • 1. Essay on What is the Definition of a Hero? What is the Definition of a Hero? When one thinks of heroes, names such as Ghandi, Martin Luther King, and Mother Theresa often come to mind. These people had done a lot of favors, courage, helps, and more of things for the people who needed them. The true definition of hero is a man of distinguished valor. Bravery, courage, intrepidity, boldness, daring, and prowess in war are a hero's characteristics. However a hero is understood to be different to everyone. Upon closer examination, many different qualities than these become apparent. The definition of heroism changes with the context and time. Heroes of the past are not necessarily heroes of present time and vise versa. A person can be a hero for saving the life of one or of millions....show more content... Some individuals living in poverty with a determination to succeed work hard all of their lives to become what everybody doubted they could. Despite of their financial problems, drug and crime surroundings, or difficulties in the language skills, their desire to triumph fuels their persistence. Those who make it to success are the few living examples of the purest form of hero anyone can be. They are not only their own heroes but also the heroes of the poor children who dream of becoming like them someday. Even a parent can be a hero to his or her child by leading them in the right direction. All teachers are heroes when they make it their job to teach a child anything that will help them in life. You don't have to go to great lengths by risking your life to make a difference in someone else's life. There is no discretion to become a hero. The perfect hero is one who will defy the odds. One who will do the morally correct thing no matter how hard it is. A true hero won't let you down. A hero will give you opportunity to worship him without regret. The hero presents himself when given the chance, yet Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 3. Hero Essay About Hero A hero can be many different types of people and have many different qualities. The Merriam–Webster dictionary defines a hero as a person admired for achievements and noble qualities. Tom Hanks said, "A hero is somebody who voluntarily walks into the unknown". Heroes are strong and courageous, but they can also be quiet and work behind the scenes. Eleanor Roosevelt once said "We do not have to become heroes overnight. Just a step at a time, meeting each thing that comes up... discovering we have the strength to stare it down". In his novel, Eric Blehm portrays some obvious heroes, but some of them are low key and stay behind the scenes. Throughout the novel Fearless there are many heroes; Nathan, Savannah, Kelley, and Adam are all heroes...show more content... The author states on page 307 "There was no doorbell on this house– the sound haunted Kelley." She knew that God had a purpose; the way she saw it there was no other choice but to wake up, be there for her children, and use her trials to help others. However, before that, Kelley was Adam's savior. She never gave up on him. When Kelley first met Adam she said "This isn't you. It's the drug. You have so much more to offer than this, Adam Brown. You know what? I'm going to pray for you." Kelley was resilient, even from the beginning, when others turned away she was always there. Shawn, Adam's older brother, turned his back on Adam; Author Eric Blehm states "Shawn was done. He wanted nothing more to do with his brother". Kelley always helped him get back on track after a relapse or a failed rehab. After his last relapse, Kelley said "you are not going to throw all this away. You need to be strong; we've got a family now." Without Kelley, Adam would never have been a hero. Adam Brown is the definition of a hero. The first part of Adam's life was very unusual. He struggled with an addiction to drugs. Adam went from being a great kid in high school to a drug addict in college. Of all the people in Hot Springs, no one thought that Adam Brown would become addicted to drugs. Adam went to rehab multiple times, but sooner or later he would relapse. Adam said that the drug "would call his name" and Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Hero Essay : The Definition Of A Hero The Definition of a Hero A hero does not have a cape draped around their neck or a whole comic book written about them. Instead, a hero influences others to do make the correct choices in life. A hero does not give up simply because the challenges they are face are arduous. In addition, a hero does not need recognition for their acts. To start, a hero inspires others to do deeds that define them as a heroic person. For instance, Ana fought a terrible fight against cancer but continued to inspire her family to live their lives to the fullest. In a piece by Ana's son, Adam, he wrote, "I know she is afraid, she fights this lethal disease every moment of everyday, and does it with a smile," (An Everyday Hero). • 8. Definition Essay: What Is A Hero? What is a hero? The world is full of heroes, you can literally find a hero wherever you look. That statement can be held true due to hero being a relative term. A hero can be whatever you want them to be because it all is about perspective. Considering that a hero is someone that is viewed differently by all people you cannot really pin too many set qualities upon the title. One of the few universal qualities that a hero embodies is bravery, without bravery a hero could not achieve anything above mediocre which would not qualify them to be a hero. Another quality that a hero possesses is the ability inspire others, because in the end a hero is someone people look up to. Even though some qualities can be listed as universal, the more detailed and specific qualities all fall upon the eye of the beholder and the traits that they value. The doctor who inspired the young woman to wanting to keep living life with a smile on her face as she fought a deadly disease that would eventually kill can be considered a hero in her and her family's lives just for inspiring her and giving her life even though he could not physically save her life, the fact that he gave her hope and was able to stop her from ending her life short with just his words is enough to make him a hero in their Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. Definition Essay: What Is A Hero? "What is a hero?" The word hero can mean whatever a person wants it to mean. Many people define a role model or person they think is a hero out of their occupations. However, a person does not become a hero because of their occupation or what they do that we envy. A hero is a person who takes a bold step or achievement that requires courage, bravery and a kind heart to do it, and the act is normally done for others. Heroes are not heroes out of their occupations like a doctor. For example, a doctor's work is to save lives, so when they do this, it is what we expect of them. If a doctor saves a drowning child from a swimming pool, he becomes a hero. The doctor demonstrates an act of bravery and courage for the child. So a hero can be any person with or without an occupation, who performs a bold act for others. A hero just has to be someone to sacrifice something for others. Heroes can come from anywhere. Heroes do not have to do action acts such as saving a person. Heroes can even be from acts of kindness. Some...show more content... • 10. A Hero : The Challenges Of Being A Hero Heroes are ordinary people who does not fly or wear super–protective suits, but inherits special traits and qualities which kindles them to accept the call to adventure as expressed in the Greek Myths. In Edith Hamilton's Book 'Mythology', published in 1942, several characters including Odysseus from 'The Adventures of Odysseus' and the Argonauts from 'The Quest of the Golden Fleece, demonstrates heroism in various ways for various reasons. Eventhough, several characters find it less challenging to be a hero due to the interventions of powerful and wise mentors, many other characters discover that it is indeed very challenging to be a hero due the necessity of developing crucial skills such as perseverance and courage. Heroes being ordinary people receive help from the Gods which lightens the challenges they need to face. Otherwise, they need to possess certain skills such as perseverance to help them pass through the obstacles. Likewise, being hero is challenging as one needs a heart of unbreakable courage to face these daring challenges. Although, heroism is challenging to achieve, the interference of powerful and wise mentors can greatly clear the path to be a hero. In the myth, 'The Quest of the Golden Fleece', Medea holds up the light that makes Jason a hero. 'All of that she did of evil and of good was done for him alone'(Hamilton 171). The phrase, 'All of that she did', suggests the numerous number of deeds both good and evil she did to help Jason through his Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. Characteristics of a Hero Essay Characteristics of a Hero "A hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself" (Campbell 1). When we think of heroes most of us think of movie stars or professional athletes, but it's not always about your popularity or talent it can also be about how you help society. What I think make a great hero is someone who is able to overcome his or her obstacles in life, is highly motivated, and has plenty of bravery. Overcoming obstacles may be one of the hardest parts of being a hero. I think it's the hardest because a lot of people are blocked from doing something and just quit. A great example of thistrait is Jackie Robinson. He was discriminated against because he was African–American. Even though ...show more content... In order to be a successful hero you must be a highly motivated person. Without motivation you would not be very successful because you would have no ambition to try and make a difference in the world. I think Rodney Dangerfield is a great example of this because he started he career at just 15 and he died while he was in the middle of a movie. Also when his wife tried to make him quit he just blew their many years of happiness and divorced her. In one of his quotes he stated, "At twenty a man is full of fight and hope. He wants to reform the world. When he's seventy he still wants to reform the world" (Dangerfield 3). Bravery is a great trait for a hero to posses. I think bravery is a key quality because you don't always know what lies ahead of you and you have to be brave to continue. A good example of this is Charles Lindburgh. He was the first person to fly across the Atlantic Ocean. I believe that took a great amount of bravery because no one had ever made it across, so he didn't know what lie ahead of him. One of his many good quotes he said, "The most effective way to do it, is to just do it", (Lindburgh 1). So as you may see overcoming obstacles, being motivated and being outstandingly brave is key to becoming a great hero.Like overcoming obstacles was very hard for Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. Winston Smith: A True Hero The main character in George Orwell's 1948 novel, 1984, Winston Smith can be seen as many things. To some, he may be a hero, but to others he is a coward and a fool. Throughout the novel, Winston's characteristics are explored, and readers are shown the reasoning behind Winston's twisted mind. It is evident that although Winston thinks he had control over his own mind and body, this is an imagined factor. The world of 1984 is one of a totalitarian society, where no one can be trusted, and no one is safe, Winston being the primary example of one who trusted thoughtlessly. Winston, despite his flawed nature and his cryptic thoughts, could be seen as somewhat of a hero, he got the girl, he found a flaw in the system, he attempted to join a rebellion ...show more content... Usually heroes are strong, but some readers are more used to female heroes, where in it could be argued that Julia is actually the main hero, in Orwell's eyes, as she is brave, headstrong and until she met Winston, she was getting by quite well. Usually, in novels, the stronger character is the hero, the weaker one is sometimes the love interest but foolish Winston is weak and hopeless and is not the hero, more like the one who needs saving. Julia could effectively be the hero, as arguably, she is the one who saved Winston. She is not a fool like Winston, but she trusts him and that is her mistake. Winston Smith: It's not so much staying alive, it's staying human that's important. What counts is that we don't betray each other. J: "If you mean confessing, we're bound to do that. Everybody does. You can't help it." W: "I don't mean confessing. Confessing isn't betrayal. I mean feelings. If they can make me change my feelings. If they can stop me from loving you, that would be real betrayal." J: "They can't do that. It's the one thing they can't do. They can torture you, make you say anything. But they can't make you believe it. They can't get inside you. They can't get to your heart. " It is clear that Julia, unlike Winston actually understands the plight of Big Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 13. A Hero Essay : What Makes Someone A Hero Timothy Wiley Mrs. Sider 8th Grade English Language Arts Period 5 31 August 2017 What Makes Someone a Hero Have you ever thought of a hero as someone who flies around with superpowers and saves people from evil? Well guess what? That ain't happening. A real hero doesn't have these things. Instead, they do good with the abilities they have. One guess about hero's qualities is they have empathy and make efforts to do the right thing. These character qualities can be seen in the great stories of Eddie Aikau, King Kamehameha and Father Damien. The first and foremost example of heroes having the traits of empathy and doing the right thing can be seen in the traits of Eddie Aikau. One piece of evidence that supports this can be found in Source One. According to Source One it says, ''As the first lifeguard at Waimea Bay on the island of Oahu, he saved over 500 people....'' (Mary Kawena paragraph 1). This shows that heroes are empathetic and do the right thing because Eddie Aikau saved over hundreds of people as a lifeguard. A second piece of evidence that supports heroes having the traits of empathy and doing the right thing can be seen in Source One. Eddie Aikau was on a voyaging journey to Tahitian Chain Islands on the Hokulea when the hull leaked and capsized. According to Source One, ''In attempt to get help, Aikau paddled toward Lanai on his surfboard. Although the rest of the crew was later rescued by the U.S Coast Guard Cutter Cape Corwin, Aikau was never Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 14. Hero Essay : What Makes A True Hero Today? A hero is not defined by what he does, but how he acts after the fact. While many people act like heroes every day, that isn't what defines a true hero. Staying humble and kind is how you define a true hero. Not someone that wants recognition or something special for doing something to be called a hero. We need heroes in today's world, it's unfortunate however, we need heroes because of all the terrorist attacks, natural disasters and just to simply help an old woman across the street with grocery bags. There are multiple characteristics, that make them a true hero. This is how you define a true hero in today's world. Bravery is important today for people who are faced with challenges that can be intimidating or scary, but face these challenges everyday head on. Just look at some people we call heroes today. They never shied away from the situations that made them heroes, they might have been scared, but they had bravery. Bravery is, if not one of the most important characteristics, this entirely defines a hero in one word. The most unbelievable part of many heroes today is that many are the normal people wanting to make a difference in where they live or possibly the world. In some situations, bravery is not even necessary, but many heroes still have to have it. Someone with bravery will be risky too, or bend the known rules to make things right for a group or a majority of people. • 15. Definition Essay: Defining A Hero If you look up the definition of hero what comes up is, "a person, typically a man, who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities.", and then after that is the example, "a war hero", but that is highly debatable. Personally, I don't think there is an actual definition of hero because everyone has a different opinion on what they think a hero is. For example, I consider a hero is someone who is willing to risk their life for you, care about you, and puts you before them, but when asking a friend of mine what the definition of a hero is for them they simply said someone who saves lives. I personally think that's more of a general definition that describes people that are police officers, nurses, doctors,...show more content... My parents work hard to give us the best they can which I truly appreciate. They're both two Mexican immigrants who have horrible jobs because they don't have the same opportunities as others and get discriminated against on a daily basis. I'm proud of them both even more now since my mom is finally getting her residency after 19 years of waiting then soon she's going to become a citizen after that my dad is going to apply for residency. He could've have applied first, but he wanted her to because he wanted her to land a better job. I consider them my heroes because they look after us and care about us. They keep a roof over our heads and food on the table, even if it's not much. They work hard to try to give us a better life because they want us to be successful in life, they want us to be able to experience everything they didn't like going to college and having a good job that actually pays well. My three brothers are my heroes as well. Sure they act like I annoy them, but I know they love me like I love them. They are very protective of me and they teach me how to stand up for myself. My oldest brother Edgar has babied me and taken care of me since I was born. Whatever my parents couldn't afford to give me, he worked hard to help them out. He has been the one who has dropped me off at the bus stop when it was too cold, dressed me when I was too young to dress myself and he was the one who did my hair despite having no experience before Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 16. What it takes to be a hero Essay The media is quick to attach the word "hero" to anyone that does a good deed. I disagree with this because, good deeds don't necessarily make you a hero, they make you a good person. Being heroic should come naturally. Heroes are born, not made. A hero must be courageous, kind–hearted and humble. I understand that many people have their own view on what a hero is. People label heroes by the things they do. Some even label people heroes just because they are famous. There is a big difference between a role model and a hero. It was expressed best in the article, What Makes A Hero? The Impact of Integrity on Admiration and Interpersonal Judgment, "Doing the right thing is a basis for acts of heroism and laudable accomplishment but often...show more content... I personally think someone that puts others before themselves and puts themselves at risk to better the life or situation of another is a hero. I also notice that our younger generation may be making heroes out of the wrong types of people. When I think of a hero, the first thing that pops in my head is the U.S. military. They constantly put their lives, families, and personal feelings on the backburner for their mission. They risk their lives protecting not just a few people, but all of America. Even though there are a lot of people who disagree with what they do, they continue to protect our freedoms. I know there are a lot of people who won't agree with me but because they believe what the military does is wrong no matter the reason. There are other people that I consider heroes that are on a much smaller scale also. These heroes are firemen/women, policemen/women, some teachers and social workers. Firemen will run into a burning house one more time just to save someone's cat because it will make them happy. They put themselves in danger for the sake of others. Police officers protect their cities even though they might not want to. They will save a murderer if he/she is in danger just as they would save anyone else. Police officers have to earn respect just like the military because people don't agree with what their orders are. Social workers may not put their lives on the line but they wont hesitate to save children from abusive Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 17. What is a Hero? Essay What is a Hero? There are many types of heroes (such as the ones in comic books, myths, movies, or even just everyday life heroes) but all of them have perseverance when they're going through a conflict. Heroes are role models and they're people that we look up too. They all have unique and special qualities that make one another different from each other. For example policemen battle crime everyday and when they're overcoming a conflict they have determination, courage and other traits that people admire them for and that make them as a hero. Typically a hero is admired for their achievement/actions and qualities. There once was a speech made, from a man who was admired and looked up too by many people. His name was Martin Luther...show more content... Many of us thought he was a very inspiring and wonderful man because he had achieved his goal by showing everyone that all of us are equal. If it weren't for him, there probably wouldn't be different races here in the world getting along together today. Another idea of a hero was when Gandhi had stood up for his country; India. "Gandhi led nationwide campaigns to ease poverty, expand women's rights, and build religious and ethnic amity" plus he had "spent a number of years in jail in both South Africa and India". In other words Gandhi never gave up showing everyone how India should be independent. Gandhi had stood out his way by leading marches to declare independence. Gandhi had been admired for his bravery (when he was thrown in jail a few times), his confidence (he never showed any sign of weakness) and perseverance (he had never gave up). Heroes are not always people who lead marches or do things for their country. For example policemen, firefighters, nurses, lifeguards etc. are heroes everyday because they take the time to save lives. When they're going through a challenge or trying to overcome a conflict they always have courage. These people risk their own life to save someone else's. To be more specific Dr. Ginger Holt from Dallas had saved a little boy's leg. She was confident and determined to finding out what went wrong in the boy's leg and went through many procedures looking at the tests. Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 19. Courage As A Hero When you think of a hero, you might think of a superhero who always tends to save the day by helping out someone in need. However, this is not always the case because there are many other things that describe a hero. A hero is not only someone who helps out others in need, but also someone who has lots of courage. With courage comes heroic acts such as self–sacrifice, standing up for what you believe in, and even pushing through when times become most difficult. Anyone with courage can become a hero and perform heroic acts that will not only benefit themselves, but that will also benefit the world; even inspiring others to do the same. People who give their life for others are true heroes because this takes much courage. These acts of self–sacrifice are present throughout the world. For instance, many people join the army knowing that they are putting their life on the line, but to them this is worth all the while because they do not mind sacrificing their life for their country and the people they hold dear. Even ordinary people are known to perform these courageous acts of self–sacrifice; for example, there are many stories of people shielding loved ones and strangers from gunfire, and losing their life in the act. People who stand up for what they believe in; for the sake of themselves and others are also heroes. Standing up for what you think is right takes much courage because there will always be many objectors trying to stop you from making change. However, Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 20. My Hero Essay : A Hero In My Eyes A hero in my eyes in not someone who saves you, not someone who you is the perfect citizen in the community, not someone who is the most liked or most popular and famous. A hero in my eyes is someone who makes you take a look at yourself, a hero is someone who makes you want to be a better person. I know this might sound cheesy but it's the absolute truth my Hero is my significant other, my boyfriend Jahi Woods. He has molded me into a hard working, fun loving person that I never used to be. I'm thankful for him not just because he is my boyfriend but because before all of the "I love you"s and all the "Goodnight"s he was and still will always be my best friend. My first reason Jahi is my Hero is because he's been through everything you can think of, watching someone die in his arms, being homeless, not having a christmas or thanksgiving get together, to having three jobs his own house and paid off two brand new cars. He has such a sensible way of handling life he has the greatest imagination his reach has no end to what he can do, he has had an excuse for everyone else and what they had done to him but that is because he has the biggest heart and trusts people to often and too much. My Second reason my boyfriend is my hero is because he's kept my head up through the two and a half years we have been together from family problems in my life to giving me advice on what I should buy. "He's my Rock" is what I should say but i'm not in to cliches and I think that I could sum it up all in one sentence, "I wouldn't be here today if it wasn't for him." I was depressed once I got out of middle school and just finished ninth grade because I was bullied my entire life and I had no sense of confidence whatsoever. Once I met him and still to this day he compliments me probably a low guess 30 times a day. My Third reasoning for choosing my other half is because he has molded me into a new person, if it wasn't for him I would be a sad, depressed, self hating black wearing girl who was fat and had no voice for herself. He helped me avoid that I know that with him I could accomplish anything. I could rule the world with him by my side, do anything I set my mind too with him and this ring on my finger. I now have one Get more content on HelpWriting.net
