2. Cannabinoids are a class of
active chemical compounds
produced by the cannabis
plant. These cannabinoids
act on cannabinoid
receptors located in our
cells as part of the
endocannabinoid system
and alter the release of
neurotransmitters in the
brain.
There are over 100
presently discovered
cannabinoids, which are
largely responsible for the
effects cannabis has on the
body. Common
cannabinoids include
tetrahydrocannabinol or
THC, cannabidiol or CBD,
cannabinol or CBN, and
cannabigerol or CBG.
Cannabinoids can be found in three places: formed by
plants, produced naturally by the human body, and created
artificially in a lab.
5. Cannabidiol is a chemical in the
Cannabis sativa plant, also known
as marijuana or hemp. Over 80
chemicals, known as cannabinoids,
have been identified in the
Cannabis sativa plant. While delta-
9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is the
major active ingredient in
marijuana, cannabidiol is also
obtained from hemp, which
contains only very small amounts of
THC.
9. Cultivation of cannabis for industrial
purposes such as making industrial hemp
or for horticultural use is legal in India. The
National Policy on Narcotic Drugs and
Psychotropic Substances recognizes
cannabis as a source of biomass, fiber,
and high-value oil.
"Hemp is already being cultivated in Uttar
Pradesh and Uttarakhand. It is bringing a new
industry in Madhya Pradesh. This is not meant
to be eaten. It is being cultivated to
manufacture cancer medicines,"
10. The cannabis plant
and its commonly
used forms like ganja,
bhang, charas etc.
contain many
chemicals which are
not psychoactive, and
are seen to have
opposite actions to
that of THC
