1. What programs did you use?
The programs that I had used during my unit 9 (my bag for hmv) are the adobe photo shop. I used
this program because I know most things (the basic skills of photo shop)so I find it relatively easy to
use when I was designing my bag. The other programs that I used was the internet, the reason why I
used this Is because I wanted to get pictures and some inspiration before making my bag (in the
planning process) so I could get the best looking bag that I can make. I particularly looked at
shopping bags and how they were crafted and the colours that they used( depending on the shop
eg: old shops would use old dull colours and new, young and hip shops would normally use vibrant
and allusive colours). This helped me a great deal because this gave me the foundation work of what
I wanted and of the bag.
What tools did you use?
The tools that I used when using photo shop were the crop tool( I used this when cropping the
photos down to size so it would fit nicely on my bag) I also used the magic wand tool (I used this
when I wanted to delete a certain area of my work so I could put something in the background to
give my bag a unique feeling) I have also used the gradient tool (so get the best looking background I
can) I also used a the shape tool (to help me with the shaping of the union jack on the bottom and
the paint looking effect dripping down the side).
Have you learnt any new skills or used any tools you haven’t before?
The skills that I have learnt are how to use the gradient tool with all of the different buttons and how
to make it all different colours and effects also I have learnt how to crop effectively and how to link
my ideas in to the work/bag finally I have learnt nearly all of the basics of using photo shop with all
of the measurements and how to overcome a difficult object so I have really become more
independent when using photo shop and not asking the teacher what to do and how to use it “give a
man a fish he will feed for a night give a man the skill he feeds for a life time”
I wanted to add the most recognisable album covers that I could find. The reason for this is because I
think that it would be a convocation piece when walking past the shop because everyone knows
nirvana, ACDC, pink Floyd and the muse so they would subliminally be attracted to coming in to the
HMV shop and hopefully buy some of their merchandise.
I also wanted to add the best of both worlds by having old music covers with bright vibrant colours. I
thought that this would be a good technique to use because it could maybe bring the old and young
generations in to the store ( so there would be a wider ranged audience) so it would reel in more
money and it would open up a new market for the franchise (sell olden tracks within the store.

2. Include pictures (step by step) how I made my bag
When I done my bag this is how I opend the images for my bag
These are the different layers of pictures that are on my bag I have put the and
edited them so they all fit in and look good
This is the tool I use to get a clean cut in my work when I was cutting the pictures
This is the tool that I used to delete the background so I can just select the image I want
The pad lock means that it is a locked picture and I cannot do any
editing with it however all you do is drag it down to the bin symbol
so you will be able to edit it and do what I want with it
the reason why I wanted to have the affect that paint is dripping down the side and it would form
into the english flag is because HMV is a proud, made in britain music company and HMV is the
pionere of music from 1921+ so I wanted the bag to refect that with one of the greatest flags in the
world “ the union jack” there for one of the greatest music companies in the world. The reason why I
had paint dripping down the side is because I thourght that It fitted in relitivly well in this time era (
grafity on walls), so this way it would conect to the young with that and the old once more with the
british pride aspect on life. Finaly the reason why I had the union jack a vibrant pink colour wqas

3. because I wanted it to carry on with the HMV colour scheem. I thourght that this would be a good
idea because I thourght it looked good when I first looked at it, it aslo compliments the black
background a lot because it sticks out and I also didn’t wanted to make it too overwhelming with too
many different ideas and colours so I thought that this was a good way to go.
One of the main problems that I had during my time trying to complete this unit was probably the
initial ideas. I found it hard to get going with what covers I wanted to add, what colours I wanted,
where and I going to put this picture etc…! the way that I overcame this issue was to come up with a
few sketches and a small mind map (unfortunately I have missed placed this so I can up load it to my
final evaluation). This helped me a lot and it gave me a good idea of how I wanted my bag to look.
Strengths Weaknesses
Overcoming situations and problems fairly
quickly and reasonably
Getting easily distracted by others and because I
have a short attention span it doesn’t help
Being able to justify my actions with good
reasons why I did something. So everything was
planned and it wasn’t all just random. This was
important because I didn’t want my bag to be
too complicated when looking at it, so it would
appeal to nearly everyone interested in music.
I time wasted a lot because at the start I wasn’t
organised because I had no clear plan what I
wanted it to look like and how/what I wanted on
there
Coming up with original ideas and not just
sponging off of others and my teacher because I
wanted it to look different from everyone’s
else’s
If I was going to do this task again I would change the way that I crafted my bag when we put it
together when we printed it because I rushed it to quickly and the folds and the way it over lapped
was horrible and it didn’t come together properly. I would also save all of the problems that I had
and all of the little changes that I mad towards my bag in a different folder. The reason why I would
do this is because that way I would have more to talk about in my evaluation and I would be able to
self-evaluate my work in more depth and so I would also be able to say “I have done this because…”
this is a critical technique in my mind in media because this way it will teach you to make a better
final piece because you will know all of the do’s and don’ts and what looks good and what doesn’t.
Overall I am pleased with my bag because I like the way it looks and even though the final bag does
not look as good as I would like it to be because I make the folds to small. I believe that the design is
good and meets the task set by the teacher. The bag is bright and the all of the little detail that went
in to making the bag really paid off. I also think that my bag is practical enough for the HMV
company to use because in my opinion it meets everyone’s tastes in bags and it also wouldn’t offend
anyone so it is fit for use in my opinion due to all of the little details that I had used/ put in when
making this bag.
