Time : 14.09 – 14.21

A. Competence Standard :
9 To understand the earth surface changing and sky object.

B. Basic Competence:
9.1 Describe the earth surface changing.

C. Indicators :
   o Student can mention the earth’s layer ;
o Student can make an indication related to scale of earth width.

 Student character expectation : Discipline, respect, diligence, responsibility and
                                  carefulness

D. Learning Materials:
   o Boiled Egg
   o Knife
   o Visual Aid (attachment 1)
   o White board
   o Markers
   o Globe
o Science book that related to grade IV
   The Material:
   Our Earth Structure
The earth is round like a ball. On the top of the earth there is a solid cold rock layers. Most of
earth layer is hot thick liquid which has different temperature depend on its depth. The
diameter of the Earth is 12,800 km. The earth has three layers. The outer layers called crust
its 16-60 km. The next layer called mantle. It is 2,900 km and it is 1,440˚C – 2,500˚C. It is
consist of melted rock. This layer is tough and hot. The inner layer called core. It is 6,800 km.
It is more than 4,000˚C. The geologist said, it is consist of hot metal and iron. The geologist,
haven’t dig the earth until the core of the earth yet. They use seismic wave to guess what is
   inside our earth.

E. Model and Method:
Teaching and learning’s model : Contextual
   Learning approach : Inquiry
Teaching and learning method : Speech plus Demonstration
F. Teaching and Learning Process
   a. Pre-Teaching (2 minutes)
       In apperception and motivation, teacher:
        i. Ask the student about the earth:
           1. Where do we live now?
           2. What is the shape of the earth?
           3. How big is the earth?
           4. How deep is the earth?
           5. What is inside the earth?
   b. Whilst Teaching (10 minutes)
        i. Exploration
            In exploration, teacher:
            1. Show the egg as the representation or the earth.
            2. Cut the egg into two parts with knife.
            3. Show the half of egg to the student and guide them to understand that earth layer
is just the same like the egg.
            4. Show the visual aid (attachment 1)
            5. Tell the student about the earth layers and its width.
            6. Draw a line in the white board and make a scale on that. (represent the earth
                layers width)
            7. Engage the student with question and answer activity.
       ii. Elaboration
            In elaboration, teacher:
            1. Give the student a work sheet (attachment 2)
            2. Ask the student to fill the sheet
            3. Guide the student to fill the work sheet
      iii. Confirmation
            In confirmation, teacher:
            1. Asking and answering anything that student don’t know.
            2. And student having conversation in order to straighten misunderstanding concept
                and give reinforcement.
   c. Post Teaching (3 minutes)
       1. Making a conclusion that our earth consist of three layers, they are core, mantle and
crust. The core consists of metal and iron. The mantle is the middle layer of earth,
made of melted rock. The crust forms the rocky outer layer of earth. Deeper we go
inside the earth, the temperature became hotter.
       2. Give homework:
Ask the student. “Where the rock comes from?” (For next meeting activity)
Ask student to bring some stones that they find near their houses.
G. Assessment
                                  Assessment
               Indicator Instrument Instrument Example
                                  Technique
Mentioning the names Quizzes Quizzes Please mention the Earth

Inside Earth
Earth is made of three layers. In the center is the core, containing an inner core of solid iron and an outer
core of liquid iron. The mantle is the middle layer of Earth, made of soft rock. The crust forms the rocky

Front Back

Show the earth crack that is seen from the moon Show that the earth has three layers if it is cut in to two
                                                         parts. (crack, mantle, and core)

How to make teacher’s handmade:

    1. Prepare three different colors of buffalo paper
    2. Measure the guess diameter of each layers but you must know the real size to
       make it more reliable.
    3. Cut the crack layer and draw and color the map on it (biggest size)
    4. Cut the mantle layer and stick it with glue it is only has max 5 mm different
       (smaller size than the crack)
    5. Cut the core, the smallest size and stick it.

On the top of the earth there is a solid cold rock layers. Most of earth layer is hot thick liquid which has different temperature depend on its depth. The diameter of the Earth is 12,800 km. The earth has three layers. The outer layers called crust its 16-60 km. The next layer called mantle. It is 2,900 km and it is 1,440˚C – 2,500˚C. It is consist of melted rock. This layer is tough and hot. The inner layer called core. It is 6,800 km. It is more than 4,000˚C. The geologist said, it is consist of hot metal and iron. The geologist, haven’t dig the earth until the core of the earth yet. They use seismic wave to guess what is inside our earth. E. Model and Method: Teaching and learning’s model : Contextual Learning approach : Inquiry Teaching and learning method : Speech plus Demonstration
  • 2. F. Teaching and Learning Process a. Pre-Teaching (2 minutes) In apperception and motivation, teacher: i. Ask the student about the earth: 1. Where do we live now? 2. What is the shape of the earth? 3. How big is the earth? 4. How deep is the earth? 5. What is inside the earth? b. Whilst Teaching (10 minutes) i. Exploration In exploration, teacher: 1. Show the egg as the representation or the earth. 2. Cut the egg into two parts with knife. 3. Show the half of egg to the student and guide them to understand that earth layer is just the same like the egg. 4. Show the visual aid (attachment 1) 5. Tell the student about the earth layers and its width. 6. Draw a line in the white board and make a scale on that. (represent the earth layers width) 7. Engage the student with question and answer activity. ii. Elaboration In elaboration, teacher: 1. Give the student a work sheet (attachment 2) 2. Ask the student to fill the sheet 3. Guide the student to fill the work sheet iii. Confirmation In confirmation, teacher: 1. Asking and answering anything that student don’t know. 2. And student having conversation in order to straighten misunderstanding concept and give reinforcement. c. Post Teaching (3 minutes) 1. Making a conclusion that our earth consist of three layers, they are core, mantle and crust. The core consists of metal and iron. The mantle is the middle layer of earth, made of melted rock. The crust forms the rocky outer layer of earth. Deeper we go inside the earth, the temperature became hotter. 2. Give homework: Ask the student. “Where the rock comes from?” (For next meeting activity) Ask student to bring some stones that they find near their houses.

  • 5. Attachment 1 Inside Earth Earth is made of three layers. In the center is the core, containing an inner core of solid iron and an outer core of liquid iron. Teacher Handmade: Front Back Show the earth crack that is seen from the moon Show that the earth has three layers if it is cut in to two parts. (crack, mantle, and core) How to make teacher’s handmade: 1. Prepare three different colors of buffalo paper 2. Measure the guess diameter of each layers but you must know the real size to make it more reliable. 3. Cut the crack layer and draw and color the map on it (biggest size) 4. Cut the mantle layer and stick it with glue it is only has max 5 mm different (smaller size than the crack) 5. Cut the core, the smallest size and stick it.
