A History of "this" Space "Welcome to the Anti-Apathy Club: A study of UMBC student culture within the Shipka Spaces" Rolling Credits slide show is NOT meant to be understood as a “Stand Alone” document. This slide show is a fragment of a larger communication, a multi-modal study of UMBC student culture, and cannot be understood unless the user reads through the entire Language in Society History of "this" Space. The researcher believed that the lexicon “commuter school” and the word “apathy” were non-descriptors for the UMBC culture and sought the assistance of his peers within the “Shipka Spaces” to uncover the true nature of UMBC’s student culture. The data provided overwhelmingly disproved the researcher’s hypothesis forcing the researcher to revise his original thesis and with it the birth of a new student organization was formed: The Anti-Apathy Club. The multi-modal discussion may be found at http://www.theintegralworm.com/langinsoc04.html . This link provides an explanation of how to read and proceed though the communication. The slide show is the “Rolling Credits” (similar to the list of contributors or “movie credits” shown at the end of a film.) giving credit and extending thanks to those who contributed to “this” presentation/activity.
