2. LIFE
• During berth female albacore tuna
produce between 800,000 and 2.6 million
eggs witch hatch in about one or two
days. After the eggs hatch the tuna begin
to grow quickly and they stay close to the
place where they hatched for the first year
of their lives. They begin to move after
their first year. Albacore tuna have a
lifespan of11 to 12 years, but they reach
reproductive age at 5 to 6 years.
3. PREDATORS
• North Atlantic albacore tuna’s predators
include sharks, rays, larger tunas and
billfishes. (Swordfish are one of the species
within the billfish category)
4. DESCRIPTION
• The albacore tuna’s pectoral fin is extremely
long and extends well past the front of the
anal fin except for tuna under 30cm long. Its
average size is about 1.4m and can weigh up
to 60 kg.

• Albacore tuna are open sea hunters. Their
diets little during the different seasons.
albacore tuna's main source of food is a
squid called Cephalopod which are also
eaten by the other two species of tuna. Not
that much is known about what albacore tuna
eat, mostly because they dive over 400 m
underwater when searching for food.
